Intel 2720QM looks a very reasonable choice. Quad-core + hyperthreading, 2.20 GHz, 45W TDP, for $378 (official Intel price list). 2.20 GHz sounds low, put the clock speed is higher if only one or two cores are used (3.30 GHz when using a single core, can't find numbers for running on two cores).

Battery life is not a problem. The battery life is the same as dual core if you do the same things. If you use four cores, like running Handbrake, the battery will be empty quicker, but that one battery charge will actually do more work.

The problem is the maximum heat produced. The Macbook would have to be able to run permanently with 45 Watt being transformed into heat. There will be some redesign necessary, maybe a stronger charger as well, but inside the 17" and possibly 15" it should be no big problem.

Thanks; wouldn't this extra heat be satisfactorily absorbed in the innovative liquid metal technology? Or this has no bearing on heat dissipation?

Argh, all this build-up is worse than the Harry Potter hype... Release them already!

I'm waiting to see the new MBP 13 so I can decide if I want to get that or the Air. I still use my iBook G4 all day every day, but it's starting to show its age, so time for something faster and more reliable. If the new Pro is made any thinner and lighter, I will go for that. The Air seems kinda flimsy to me. That black mock-up in the intel ad seems perfect, but I seriously doubt that it has anything to do with reality. Secretly hoping though!

Unfortunately, if this doesn't turn out to be a full redesign, I won't be purchasing one. I, like a poster above me, want to be on a redesign purchase schedule. While I may not feel the need to get one every time they do redesign them, I feel that it's too late in this design's timeline to jump in. Maybe the fall? Guess we'll find out soon. :(

I seriously don't get the reason why some people are saying they'll hold off on buying the new macbook pros if they ain't redesigned, only because we are too late in the life-cycle of the unibody design.
Seriously guys, if you need a computer, you just buy it. It's even better if you buy it just when it's released. But restraining oneself from buying a computer only because it might get a new redesign next year is plain idiotic, if you really thought that, you couldn't buy any Apple product.

Had my first official "MBP release" dream this morning.

I dreamt I was at my iMac and was on the net refreshing the Apple website - The website had been refreshed with details of the new MBP.. Unfortunately everyone was on it, so the images were loading very slowly (dial up slow)... Every time an image completed loading, it would reveal a new feature.

I think I was switching between apple.com and macrumors, the whole dream.. It was very exciting.

Then I woke up.

Just can't wait. :D

I renovated my desk recently, got a new iMac and a MBP would do wonders. GOD! Absolutely exciting days ahead. :D

Damn! I just got a 13" MBP this 4th of February, do you guys believe I'll be eligible for an exchange to the newer version?

Because people that can wait 8-12 months for a refresh don't NEED a new computer and of those, I doubt many of them actually do wait for the next one.

I´m looking forward to buy my first mac, I hope they realese a redesigned MBP, if they don`t I believe i´ll be waiting another 6-8 months for the next one. I still have an HP dm3 that is only 7 months old (but is not a mac at all)

That was not a dream. That is the future of cloud computing. Apple directly inserts marketing messages into your subconscious via iCloud. The CIA was working on this for years as a torture method but developed "Jersey Shore" as a less expensive alternate.
