Hang in there, trusty 2011 MacBook Air...

Not to beat a dead horse of a meme, but Apple were clearly courageously looking forward to the future of thunderbolt 3.

Huh. That was kind of unsatisfying... I'd still like a more technical description of what's going on. Apple isn't saying the TI chipset will be supported, and they aren't saying why or why not... That answer may need to come from a source other than Apple, I guess.

Anyone know why the TI chipset is different?
I'm not even sure Phil(or any Apple staff) knows the real reason...at least the technical part. Who knows...it's probably business issue.

At this rate, Apple will be gone by mid 2017. You have to be a fruitcake to buy an apple computer. Completely unpredictable behavior and compatibility. I can't wait to see what new negative surprises will surface tomorrow. Tim needs to go if apple is going to have any chance.

Outdated isn't eye of the beholder.

It's objective fact. This 2016 machine wasn't competitive at this price 18 months ago.

The 2015 model was...

Heh. At $2400, for what it lacks, it's not really price competitive now. Should be $2K with its specs.

Thanks I stand corrected but it could have gone to the base model right?

It could have but then it'd have been the base model with 7th gen and the more expensive models with 6th (because the processors aren't released). My guess is they will all get Kaby Lake late next year.

With 16gb RAM apple should waited this update till 7th gen CPU available or went with 5th gen CPU

Now this is just interim product

Everything is an interim product. People cry when Apple wait and people cry when they don't. In this case there will be a minor CPU bump on update to Kaby with only the small gains in efficiency and speed. Kaby Lake also accelerates some video decoding but the formats in question are barely present in the real world.

Not the first time you've posted this complete fantasy quote

"If you see a made up 'quote', they blew it"
- Me, just now

those of us with our early 2015 MBP will hold onto these for dear life. However once my machine leaves AppleCare, if it needs replacement, I may strongly consider a switch.....

This is getting outrageous-

New Macbook Pro(fit$) are incompatible with USB-C adapters, USB video capture, USB storage, etc. that work fine on other laptops.

I actually watched the video clip... usb-c adapters, external display, external hard disks, etc does not work on this thing! All buyers should watch this before making the purchase decision. What are people going to do with the new MacBook pro.. phil...

From watching that video from the beginning...that's some conspiracy s*** that Apple did.

Edit: Looks like Apple is selling Junk!

Cue the haters....
This has nothing to do with dongles, so let's stop that discussion right now.

Thunderbolt 3 combines PCI Express and DisplayPort protocols into a single signal in addition to power. Its extremely versatile. Just like not all wireless headphones are up to 4.2 BT specs, I'm sure not all T3 peripherals are created equal as well.

Apple is being Apple, and that means outrageously priced stuff with hard to swallow limitations. I think folks forget that this is really been Apple's MO for decades. Either buy their stuff or don't, but stop complaining about something you have no control over.

Complaining is more fun, though. Walking away and saying nothing is boring.

As far as your wireless headphone comparison, those headphones are backwards compatible as any 4.2 BT chip will work backwards, so your headphones still work (just not as efficiently power-wise). From what I read, your TB3 device will JUST NOT WORK. PERIOD. Bad comparison.

[doublepost=1478224630][/doublepost]i'm honestly enjoying seeing apple failing. This isn't the company that got me hooked on Mac OS X and IOS years ago, it's honestly a joke of a company these days.

So basically they made it so the only guaranteed to work adapters/peripherals are either made by or endorsed by Apple. Nice.

I mean just today at college, someone asked me to help connect their iPad to a projector over VGA. A quick google and hey holy hell 60$ for lighting to VGA adapter from Apple. Meanwhile a micro HDMI to VGA for my phone is a whole 16$ off Amazon.

Seriously, the amount of adapters and dongles and **** you need to make a new MacBook compatible with anything is ridiculous.

Out of the box, a 1800$ laptop has the approximate I/O and functionality of a budget Android tablet. Worse really, since 99% of Android hardware supports USB On The Go and there are hundereds of inexpensive adapters to connect pretty much anything you can think of. For the cost of 1 Apple adapter, I could buy enough adapters for my phone that would give me more I/O than a new MacBook.

Jesus. It just gets worse.for this thing. Now.I have to buy all new tv devices.

On a related note, I think its kinda funny that Refurb 15" MacBook Pros are nearly sold out...... there were many different ones available when I last checked a couple weeks ago.....
I bought a refurb 13 when the news came out. I had been waiting but I am not a pro just a wannabe so I figured that would do me for a few cycles.

really? the wifi is slower in the latest mbp than previous generations?
where'd you see this?

I am not sure about slowing symptom, but apparently, wifi stops working once usb-c devices are plugged in. It works fine when no devices are plugged in though.

You can see above symptoms in detail:

This thing could really use some good news.

Seems like nothing but negative articles lately.

Well...granted it's not actually in the public's hands, but they haven't started catching fire yet.

Though other than that, I can't think of anything positive to say about these steaming turds.

Wow, this thread simply shows how amazing the adoption of Thunderbolt. It's as if everyone here are using Thunderbolt devices already!

:roll eyes:

WOW.

So, let's get this straight. The update now confirms and "clarifies" that all devices made prior to November 2016 are incompatible. So, cool, anything TB3 that didn't come out in the past FOUR DAYS doesn't work, so this thing has a completely vacant ecosystem and zero alternative ports.

Let's couple that with the need for an absolutely behemoth sized $60 Thunderbolt 2 adapter, the 16GB DDR3 limitation, the lack of SD slot because it's too "cumbersome" and it's the only port on earth that according to Apple has something protruding from it when in use, and the absurd price.

I have an order in, but I'm pretty sure it's over. I had to hold off on AppleCare to keep the thing going over $4k.
