I just called the nearest Apple Store to me, and they said they have plenty of MacBook Pro's in stock. :(

Maybe they just haven't run out yet? :p

Ship/Delivery Dates Change

Hey all.
I have some interesting news to share...

A girl I work with ordered a MacBook Pro on May 30th.
After placing her order, she received the following ship/delivery dates:
Ships by: May 30 - Jun 1
Delivers by: Jun 1 - Jun 4

Today she checked her order status and her dates have changed.
Ships by: May 31 - Jun 4
Delivers by: Jun 4 - Jun 8

She just called Apple and asked the reason for the change in ship/delivery dates. The CSR placed her on hold and returned telling her (in a tone my friend described as "less than confident") that they were experiencing a "high number of orders due to back to school." They then bumped her up to 2-Day shipping, when it does ship.

I can't help but think a June 5th MBP bump is legit.
Now what that bump entails, is anyone's guess.
I'm going with... Santa Rosa, 2GB standard ram, magnetic latch and that's all. I'm just not feeling LED, yet.

160GB drives standard, too (that was given away by the blackbook's bump).

I think you're right. I expect LED displays first in a new 13" MBP which will be the one-more-thing at WWDC. Larger sizes will come later.

Similar Delay

I ordered a 17" MBP on May 27th and originally it said "Ships by May 28-29". On the 30th it too changed to "Ships by May 31 - June 4." I am starting to doubt that it is simply a lack of supply. Hoping for a nice update.

Just a question.

So if you ordered a MBP right before they were planning to update them, (ordered friday, update is tuesday, delivery scheduled for thursday... etc) would they send you an updated one? or would you get the bottom of the last batch?

Correct me if I am wrong: in the past Apple sends out an email confirming your item has shipped and (in the example you cite) that it was upgraded to the latest, greatest.

Anyone?

Apple has one European warehouse that ships to all European customers,

Not quite, it depends on what customisations you order, my German MB with English OS was shipped from China...in three days.

another pricing question

is it correct to assume that the new MBP's will be priced the same as current models in terms of a 3 tier entry/mid/upper level pricing points but with a bump in performance? Say for example the new entry level 15" unit - will it still be priced at $1999 like today's MBP, but with a possible bump in performance, memory etc... from the current MBP?

thanks!

Most likely. I believe that's the way it's been since at least the intel transition. But I'm still waiting to get my first Mac, so don't quote me on that.

That is the pattern, but I would not assume anything really. Let's just say its the likely scenario.

If the last Macbook (not Pro) update is any hint, I would say there would be no price change. The new LED screens/Santa Rosa chipset would make it seem to be a bit more expensive to produce MBP's, but IMHO I think it would be bad for business to raise prices on MBP's across the board (unless they introduce a lowER-end MBP for a lower price).

I'll try to get a better photo tomorrow, but I may have found the model numbers of the new machines. They appear to be MA895 and MA896, but since the photo came out worse than expected, I can't really tell that well now.. I'd ignore the comments about the price before anyone tries to be clever, that's the standard price for new items added onto the system in this store before final confirmation has been made.

I am not bound by any non-disclosure agreements with Apple, but I'm sure the store's buyers are. They have made the error of releasing new iPods onto the systems in the past, but never listed model numbers for unannounced products. Whenever this has happened, new items are usually released within a week.

Some already know where I work, for those that don't and for my own reasons, I will not reiterate here.

3 cent MBPs??
Sign me up!!! :p

What about that rumor (posted on this site and others) that stated Apple ordered a bunch of 15.4 inch LED screens in April?

I seriously hope to see LED screens or at least different screens in the 15-inch MBP. I do not like the grain on the current screens.

Agreed - this would indeed be a welcome upgrade and seal the deal for my MBP purchase.

Little updates could be:

standard 256mb gfx
user replaceable hdd
cpu speed bump (to differentiate from macbooks)
price drop

so basicly the same as the macbook update from last month

Dude... how many times do we have to emphasize that you can't do "just a speed bump". To do that, you have to go to Santa Rosa and that IMHO is not exactly a "little" update. Also, there is almost no way they won't jump to next gen radeon 2xxx and geforce 8xxx graphics cards which if you're into windows runs DX10 and is at least 2X the power of the existing x1600 for openGL and DX9. Also, LED screens are nearly a given considering they ordered them and (I think) Steve said the MBP was getting them.

So, basically what you are saying is there are a bunch of people sitting at Apple right now trimming down those 100,000 15.4" LED backlit displays they ordered to fit into a new 13" MBP?

Cool.

I just went through setting up a purchase for a base MacBook Pro on the Canada Apple store and as soon as I went to the purchase section the information for shipdate changed to June 4th or 5th. Ok maybe it's nothing but I am gettingt the same ship date for the imac now as well. Which was not the case a week ago..two for one updates??

Curious!

I am predicting LED display, higher ram standard, bigger hard drives. If lucky, maybe, maybe a case redesign with the Santa Rosa platform.
