That guy probably gets his rumours from these type of sites. I mailed him to ask him if he had any ideas about the specs of this notebook and the video card that it may use because he seemed to know a bit of what was going on from his ad. In his reply he told me that he hasn't got a clue what is going on and to quote him directly "I assure you no one has less of an idea of what's going on than me."

I don't know if Apple released a 13 inch with a dedicated GPU next week i would seriously consider buying one if they did release one.

I think that Think Secret maybe more accurate on this one though.

OK... wait.. what does this mean? is this source reliable? Does this mean it's "sure" that we will see a ultraportable announced next week at Leopard's release ? (and no new MB like I was hoping for? :( )

well, if this does turn out to be true, if you listen closely he says it is a new 13" notebook clad in alu - which sounds not unlike the other rumor of an alu-clad sleeker MB, so in all likelihood, it'll either be a speed-bumped SR MB or the new design MB (with the same speed-bump and SR inside). Either way, you get your new MB. :)

Hmm engadget has picked up this story and it doesn't sound like this guy is reliable at all

lol I know. I read through the comments on their thread and wow, do they hate this guy. lol Flame on Scott Moritz!! But back on topic, there is a chance he prob. got his source from tha internet (MR :) ) and decided to up his chances at being right at the rumor mill for once.

I really hope they put out new MB's :) oh, and new MPS's and Mac Pros would be nice for those people too. . and the Xserve thingymajig.

Prodcut refresh for the holiday FTW!!

ok.. let's hope so! looking forward.. my first mac :)

I'd like to see the new macbooks have led displays, sr chipset with updated graphics and finally a dvd burner on the lowest priced model... even if nothing else changes I'll be pleased... a new design could be nice though

THis is what i hope for too. Not too much to ask for and within reason.

So, does everyone think that I should wait to get my first mac, a macbook?? I wish apple would just tell us that a new one is coming out, a week or so in advance, so then i'd know when to order one! So many people on threads, on this website and on others, have said that new macbooks are coming out! If they synchronise the leopard launch with the launch of the new macbooks, i will be very happy! Apple has got to think of the helpless people who are going to buy the original macbook with leopard, not knowing about the new macbook release/rumour.

I got tired of reading the rumors, waiting on the "new" Macbook,

so today I ordered a 15" MBP!!!!

Actually, while discussing it with my wife, we decided to get the higher end laptop to future proof us a little (a year or two). I'm happy with our decision! Just can't wait for the darn thing to get here!

I'd say (to anyone who wants to buy a macbook soon): wait at least till Leopards launch. It would be stupid if they did not upgrade macbooks in some way. Even if it's just a speed bump, it's worth the wait imo. Afterall, it's just a week.

Aluminum Macbook ..

Did I read correctly .. an Aluminum Macbook ..

Might have to purchase one to keep my Aluminum iMac Intel company .. :D

I'll be waiting ;)

The new macbooks will have SR Chipset along with new graphics why? simple... LEOPARD

In order for the macbook to have full hardware support for leopard it needs a true 64 bit architecture and core image supported graphics. It would be a terrible decision if apple didn't want to give the revised macbook full support of there new OS don't you think?

So, basically, you are predicting new MacBooks AND new minis next week. :)

discounted MacBooks in Italian chain

Hi, just seen here in Italy that Mediaworld.it has a printed promo leaflet with the white C2D 2GHz 1GB/80GB/CDR-DVDrom going for euro 899 from 20 Oct until 3 Nov. normal price for this model is euro 1049! 15% off
Does this mean a new 'snappier' MacBook on 4th November??

no on-line links yet

I'm not sure, but I was at my University's Apple outlet a couple of days ago and the rep. there told me that they only had 2 macbooks in stock at the time. He also said that their usual stock is usually much much higher because they sell so many macbooks. He attributed the low stock to "10.5 being released next week." Now I'm not saying this guy knew anything about the new macbooks or new hardware in general for that matter, but why would they not keep stock on their best selling mac, and probably computer for that matter, when they could just throw in some upgrade DVDs with it on launch day? Many retailers do seem to be having fairly good deals on macbooks recently, which could indicate their need to get rid of old stock. OR, I'm completely off, and the non-Apple stores need to get rid of their computers which run Tiger because they can't just throw in Leopard?
It all comes down to whether the current Macbook is a technically feasible choice for Leopard, and whether Apple, who has had a big year of new products, is going to release yet another one based on its (still?) highest selling computer.

On that count, at least, rest easy. The current MacBook is easily capable of running Leopard, no problem.

I would say that the low stock of MacBooks at your store is a great indicator that a new machine will be announced on the 26th. Apple loves to announce and sell new items on the same day. They may very well have cut off shipments of the old unit while holding back shipments of the new unit until next Friday.

Apple always have to change their SKU's to include a new OS disk so low stock isnt always a hint of new hardware at the point of a new OS version (I used to work for an Apple reseller). But I really think the Macbook will get an upgrade shortly, next week seems the perfect opportunity.

Just to add to what I said about good deals going on... if anyone wants to pick up a macbook on the cheap in Canada, Staples Business Depot has them on for less than the Apple Student Discount rate right now. And yes, it IS the 2.16 white model.

Sweet, I hope they upgrade them next week. I'm starting a new job on Nov 5 and my employer will be upgrading all the laptops to the new Macbooks whenever they come out. If it's later, I'll be using a TiBook until the new ones are available.

Tuesday October 23 or Tuesday November 6

now that leopard is announced and no news of update macbooks, any chances there will be still one later on? I'm waiting to buy first laptop (MB) for university and i dont want to miss it if a new MB one is coming out.
Best guess is Tuesday November 6. If they will go with 2.2GHz Merom Santa Rosa, the news could come next week.

But I wouldn't have high expectations for anything beyond Leopard to be mentioned until after Leopard weekend anyway since Apple likes to keep their product releases staggered for maximum PR value. On the other hand, a nice new shinny MacBook that can see 4GB of RAM would be a perfect way to sell a ton of new Macs with Leopard on board next weekend. So who knows? :)
