All The Other Tuesdays Are Spoken For

why do you say November 6? is there any particular reason?
We know the Mac Pro is November 13 if not January 15. We know next week is Leopard-Is-Coming Week. We know October 30 is Beggers Night or Halloween Eve. We know November 20 is Thanksgiving & Black Friday Eve.

So that only leaves Tuesday November 6 if not next Tuesday. It's a logical deduction not a prediction. I certainly could be wrong. ;) Apple is certainly up for surprises any chance it can make some.

lol...thats a hell of a logical deduction!!
thanks a lot for the explanation :D
makes sense...but why not announcing it on october 26th?

Announce New Hardware On A Friday? Never. It's Just Not Done.

Because Friday October 26 is Leopard Launch Day. Apple doesn't announce new hardware on Fridays and especially not on a new system launch day. It would ruin the publicity for the new hardware and Leopard both - mixed signals. Keep in mind Apple's PR goal of always maximizing publicity for every move they make.

And don't forget that "Back to school" promo ends October 30th, I don't think Apple would give us new macbook + new ipod, although it would be great if they do that :D

hm so difficult decision, wait until november and get some rumored new macbook with SR/X3100 or save 130€ and take the old macbook ?!

Ok sory to hijack but wold it be possible for apple to release an update that would allow the GMA950 in my macbook to address more RAM, T and L, Shaders, etc. in order to run leopard better?

It already does.

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303407

Mac OS X may make additional main memory available to the graphics processor for texture use beyond the base 80 MB amount mentioned above, depending on the application being used.

oh. but more memory (128 for example) fixed could be done? I think leopard will run fine on my macbook but some of the people on this forum are making me anxious. :S

GMA 950 can use 192 to 224 megs of vram from the system... thats what intels specs says (web and the product pdf sheet shows different amount)
http://www.intel.com/products/chipsets/gma950/index.htm

i asked my uni apple support that day about this. who then forwarded me to an apple person and i never got any reply.

GMA 950 can run win vista OK because it takes up more than 80 meg of video ram from system.
mac, if needed, can access upto this amount too. im not sure what leopard does.

i personally thing GMA should be fine since leopard should have much neater code than vista which runs in GMA 950 OK :p

that said, i am eagerly waiting to convert to mac...but ONLY if macbooks graphics card gets updated. if r u not into games, ur macbook should be more than ok IMO.

Just saw the Leopard demo video. CAN'T WAIT for my MacBook!!! All those functions are really amazing and very useful.
I also think a couple of speculations by Multimedia about Nov 6 to be the new MB release date sounds reasonable. Although I hope they announce it a week from now, you would expect they don't want to steal the Leopard show. If you have reasons to make 2 big days, why combine them for only one party?! :p
I just hope when I order the new MB, it can arrive as fast as possible... (not taking 2 weeks after the announcement...)

130€ is 130€, but if it was me, I'd wait for the SR/X3100 model. Of course, this assumes it is coming...

As Eidorian noted, it is not possible. The GMA950 physically lacks the circuit hardware necessary and it cannot be added/patched via a software update.

so the final question leaves; runs Leopard really good on the current MacBook? This is a question no one answers completely. What restrictions are there about CoreImage with GMA950?
Actually it's the only reason for me to wait until new Macbooks and loosing the 130€ benefit.

Besides, it would be VERY funny if you compare the laughed Vista to the new Leopard that even doesnt run on CURRENT hardware and although they're making advertisments with the Macbook combined with Leopard. It's my thought from the pc-to-mac-switcher-view

some of the graphics ive seen in leopard, u 'might' expect a slightly slow performance when u r doing so many other things at the same time. but i dont think it will be noticeable. just my personal opinion though...

i compared 950 for vista because vista has higher H/W requirements. so if gma 950 can run vista, leopard will be more than happy with it

lol, if i invest 1200 € for a new laptop, i might expect to run at least the state-of-the-art OS really fine and not in any "slow performance" for some activities. Just buy an actual Windows Laptop and Vista runs at very good performance to a better price.

Besides that, perhaps current Macbooks users get kicked out if 10.6 would be released in the future, as it happens to current G4/G3 users...
Since tiger had requirements arround 256MB RAM, i thought Apple does an other politics abouth their users than Microsoft does.

Buying outside

Hey guys, i've been reading MR and the forum for quite a lot of time now.
I was waiting for leopard and now time has come.
But i've got the chance to get a new laptop (MB or MBP) in the usa as my sister's boyfriend is going there for the last weekend of november (we are from europe).
Do you think is it safe to do such a thing (I'm referring to warranty)? Also what does he have to do before leaving again for europe? Does he have to throw away the package of the MB(P) just to avoid problems such as customs duties?
The only "little" problem would be the US keyboard but i don't really mind.
What do you think?

Thanks!

ps: sorry for the english

The warranty is worldwide so that is not an issue.
Maybe if have any students in your family they could buy it because the university student pricing maybe pretty close to the US prices but then you will get a system that is intended for your own country.
If you were concerned about the packaging you could dispose of it or post it back to yourself via mail if you wanted to keep hold of it.

Well i'm a student myself, but with the current exchange rate euro-dollar, getting an apple laptop in the usa could be more interesting than buying something here with the university student pricing.

Two examples referring to the cheapest MB and MBP

MB here with student pricing: 986 euros
MB bought in the usa: 768 euros

MBP here with student pricing: 1742 euros
MBP bought in the usa: 1397 euros

:)

Also, he's going to florida, are there any particular taxes there he should pay??
