If true, the big news isn't a minor speed bump to the Mac Book. It's no new Mac Pros. Much more significant as the MP hasn't had a real update since its introduction in 2006, and while I am happy for future Mac Book buyers, they get refreshed regularly and a minor speed bump isn't going to make or break anyone's day.

that's the real problem...i've been waiting for leopard to come out, and now i'm going to wait for the new mac book...the problem is i will only buy the same mb but with a better cpu... baaah

Yeah so imagine what happened to sales when Intel released the Core Duos and such with their lower clockspeeds (but obviously more efficient pipelines). They obviously had to advertise a lot. I remember telling someone I was going to get a 1.8 ghz Core Duo computer and they laughed and said theirs was 3.4 ghz and 1 year old.

one of my friends who needs good cpu for intense calculation (phd in theoretical math) believed from the dell rep. that she is going to get 3.6 GHz cpu (it was a 1.8 gig core duo)...:p
;)

I would consider purchasing a new Macbook if it was released in November. For all those waiting though I wouldn't rule out the worst case scenario however. That being no update at all until Macworld. If the rumored new portable mac is real and is intended to be a replacement for the macbook line it could happen.

but 13.3 inch in NOT going to be replaced by a 12 inch. im almost certain of that.
:)

No one knows the size of the rumored new Mac portable. It could very well have a 13.3 inch screen but cut down on it's other measurements.

C'monnnnn Aluminum Macbooks!!!! My plastic is cracking AGAIN now on the other side by my USB port! I gotta break out the crazy glue again! I really hope they get updated MB's out by November 6th... because I need a new one bad!

I hope they increase the top specs of the macbook too, dedicated graphics, backlit keyboard and aluminium design please!

:apple:
I'll keep my fingers crossed for all of that too, but I'm not too sure at the moment. Anything will do for me, just as long as I know I haven't paid £900 on a machine that will soon be obsolete. Get a move on Apple, you can have my money. Heck, you can have my wife! :)

Good grief

On a side note (not trying to steal thread), what's the resolution of the Macbook like on an external monitor, I noticed it's quite a bit lower than the MBP, how does it look anyone?

It's definitely lower than the MBP. Workable though. Not entirely sure what the max is though, as my TFT only permits 1280x1024. But thats more than enough for a simpleton like myself. Like to keep things minimalist :apple:

Macbook: up to 1920x1200
Macbook Pro: up to 2560x1600

So you'd say that it's good enough to work with?

That's what I needed to hear, thanks.

I think we would have had some sort of confirmation or leaked image of a 13" macbook pro by now if it was going to be released on Friday, right?

If it has Santa Rosa, a dedicated GPU, up to 4GB of RAM and an LED screen i'm on it so fast.

Why did you return it?

Because I had no idea how close we were to a refresh on the Macbook.. so instead of just keeping it.. (I didn't *need* the MacBook, I bought it on a whim) I figure I'd just return it and wait for the new "hotness" to come out and then go back and buy the new model. I'm just the type of person that can't settle for last gen models when there's a newer one out or coming out. It's all just silly justifications on why I do things ;)

Santa Rosa - Most definately.
Dedicated GPU - Definately not (not going to be enough room for it if they stay at 13.3" or smaller).
4GB of Ram - Basic model - 1gb, Middle - 2gb, Top package - 4gb maybe?
LED Screen - Very possible (and I hope it comes too).

Too much talk about wanting a dedicated GPU.. there's no other santa rosa notebook by any other maker that put a dedicated GPU in anything smaller than a 14" notebook yet. So I don't expect it to happen.. this coming refresh.. perhaps the refresh after the upcoming one will.. as technology will probably shrink down some more. (45nm die for CPU and GPUs).

furthermore if there would be a major macbook update at friday - there must be informations about a special event for its or other releases on friday (including leopard)

anyone knows infos about a special event / quicktime broadcast for the leopard release on friday?

other scenario with minor chances : (yeah i know, all is pointing for nov 6) - apple is updating Macbooks on Friday with only a short speed bump and no new alu-case and so on... (delayed until early 2008) and also no need for a special event

yes i think it's clear there would be a X3100 in a new macbook release, but there are some notebooks with 12/13" + SR + dedicated Nvidia:

Dell M1330 http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/xpsnb_m1330?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19

Asus W7S
http://usa.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=5&l2=131&l3=447&l4=0&model=1667&modelmenu=2

think there are lots more from other, maybe cheaper suppliers...

Not going to happen. New MacBook NOT MBP is November 6. New MBP is not until the January 15 SteveNote at San Francisco MacWorld Expo.

Any ideas on what's happening to the MBP this next update?

It's likely to have a new Penryn processor, that's the biggest upgrade it will probably get. Harddisk and mem enlargement maybe? There are also rumors about a new sort of iPhone like touchpad (special gestures etc.), although they were aimed at the normal MB's. I don't really know a lot about MBP I'm more into standard MB's and they will probably be updated somewhere in the next 2-3 weeks. Can't wait for it.
