New MacBooks by November?

combo drive?

so as it stands only the mini and the 'book have combo drives...what do you think the odds are that they'll give every 'book model a superdrive? I'd love a low-end model with a superdrive; its not like it's cutting-edge technology anymore...

Hey there, I've read the whole thread and find that I can nothing more to it, because everything probable has been said! 😛

So yeah... New Macbook with SR and X3100 and I'm a happy man. 😀

Either way, there are very few things we can do before the impending update (as early as now or as late as whenever...) so enjoy leopard while it's apple's newest toy! 😉

So Apple wants to prove Multimedia's prediction was wrong, then they release the new MB tomorrow! LOL Why am I still dreaming...?! 😛

Throw me a bone apple... my UTD Leopard won't be here tomorrow 🙁. Make my day and announce a new macbook so ill have a real reason to go to the apple store tomorrow lol.
 
haha. this forum is VERY interesting.

how much you guys think the MB will go for? for the slim macbooks (if they ever come) they say "aggressively priced". how aggressive???? just wanna know ur thoughts. 😀
 
Not fussed if the new MacBooks come out today, but would like them by November 6th (the oft quoted date in speculation) as I'm buying a MacBook to convert the missus to using a Mac, and I'd prefer to get her a new model tax free at the airport on November 20th. Two weeks should be enough of a lead time to allow Dixons Tax Free at Gatwick to get them in stock!

I don't think the macbook prices will be raised... i'd think they either stay the same or see a $100 price reduction. Considering the macbook is going to be their best seller, lowering the price will help compete against PC's for xmas. Someone else pointed out a while ago that it puts the macbook at $899 for student price and with the new SR and graphics chip that is an excellent deal and will compete well.
 
You know the more I think about it, the more sense it would make for Apple to release a new macbook tomorrow. I know the argument is that they don't want to take away from Leopard. But what better time to release an update to their biggest seller when you're going to have hundreds of people in every store for the leopard launch event? A sleek new macbook might be too tempting for the apple faithful. I know I'll be queing up well-before 6pm should they release an updated mac version. Still, I remain skeptical. But I think it would have been a great time for apple to do it.
 
Well if you follow the tack that Apple will sneak out revised MacBooks rather than come out with a blaze of publicity as per usual, then today would be a logical day to do it.

e.g. person goes in to buy new Mac with Leopard onboard, ooh look, have a newly revised MacBook as a surprise!

Who knows, but as long as it's there for me to buy on 20th November, that's all I care about.

maybe this IS the surprise from leopard steve jobs was talking about 😉
 
We're launching it here in 3 hours at Singapore... I'll be heading down to the premium reseller soon =) (we don't have an apple store sadly.)

Will keep you guys posted... I'm hoping for new macbooks too =)

I'm crossing over, enough of microsuck.
 
Are we going to assume that should there be a new macbook tomorrow, it will be released at 6pm like leopard? It would make sense because new macbooks will for sure have leopard installed.

I guess we will know if the leopard/macbook theory is correct as soon as 6pm rolls around on the east coast tomorrow (today)?
 
I don't know, but I've noticed that Apple usually has a really long wait time (15 days or so, maybe?) before shipping something if it is going to get upgraded soon, and the wait time before the current MacBook ships is only 24 hours..

Apple isn't going to switch from the 8600M GT to GMAX3100 for the MacBook Pro. The MacBook though would be likely to get GMAX3100.

The 8600M GT is still the most powerful card you can get in a 15" form factor (and the MBP is lighter and thinner than most 15" PC notebooks).

The 8700M GT or upcoming 8800 are really only suitable for 17" machines. They won't show up in 15" machines.

The XPS M1730 you mentioned is also almost 10 pounds.

Note that Dell's upcoming XPSM1530 (their 15" machine which might compare with the MBP in thinness and lightness) is reportedly only going to have an 8600M GS (significantly less powerful than the 8600M GT).

Yeah i misread multimedia..he talked about mackbook
the 17 " mackbook pro where on my mind.i dident compare them just mentioned it has great graphics.It's way to heavy but it has sli-dual and a own physics integrated.But go figure it's way to heavy and gamy design compare to the sleek macbook pro..
I now that the mackbook wont have that then i rather bought the dell..
just that the graphics on the pro needs to be updated..
So you can compare a "little"

Oef, 6 hours to go... I can't wait anymore. I said I would wait with buying at least untill december but I think I'll be buying before that.

A bit of an off-topic question: can you order a macbook now and order applecare (to increase warrenty to 3 years) later? Like in say 2 months or something?

No.you can't..I can see your point because you have 3 month telephoneservice and 1 year warranty...So you should do it after 2 months..But you can't..
 
Since a friend of mine showed me his MacBook (newest model at the moment), I was sold. I want one of those too, instead of a laptop with Windows Vista or something! Almost bought one but luckily I found out a new line of Macbooks should arrive pretty soon.. Can't wait for that too happen.

Since I'm not in the mood for reading this thread fully, can someone tell me what the expected time of release is for the new Macbooks, according to the best reliable rumors? 😀
