Yep, I'm sure you'd be much happier if Apple shipped you something that melted through your lap. As disappointed as I am, I'd rather have a machine that works well but was delayed a week than one that doesn't and arrived on time.

Dude, sarcasm. It's new but I think it'll stick around.

Great.. I just received my Seagate Momentus 500 GB 7200.4 last nite anticipating shipment of the MBP 17-unibody today.. but nada..
BLEAK.

Ships: February 19th

I HATE APPLE ZOMG I KNOW YOU ALL DO TOO DONT LIE IM NOT GONNA BUY ANY MORE APPLE THINGS

I suggest that you stay away from pre-release technology if you're impatient. Delays are par for the course. It's actually uncommon for vendors to hit their dates (with few exceptions).

As impatient as I am it doesn't seem to stop me from ordering the latest products on the day they're released. So far I haven't received a bad product yet, albeit delayed. I'm sure there are "therapy groups" for compulsive upgraders such as Myself.

MBP 17 shipment delay

The MPB 17 unibody should have been my first mac ever. I am very irritated because of the Apple PR. They should make the reasons for the delay public, to restore the lost confidence.

I just called in and was nice and just generally concerned since this is my first apple product and the purchase wasn't going as I wanted. The nice woman knocked off the expedited shipping cost and upgraded it to Next Business day and also knocked a 100$ off my MBP :).

WTF, I talked to two different guys and they wouldn't give or recommend anything. Neither one even knew there was an issue until they pulled their screens up to show it was delayed.

I think it's because I have to talk to the developers department since I got the discount and those guys actually do know what's going on so they aint giving shiat up.

I am a EPP customer due to my company doing being a ADC premiere partner, I just called the normal MYAPPLE number and gave the Order.

Looks like they do know something is up.. the website changed the shipping from 7-10 days in the store.. to now 3-4 weeks.

3-4 weeks is past the 19th which they adjusted several ship days to. I hope this isn't a sign of further delays and just applies to orders submitted now.

This is just appalling. Apple obviously couldn't care less about its customers. Do you guys honestly believe that the reps over the phone don't know what's going on? If they had stated in early January that you probably wouldn't receive your laptop until March (or later) would you have stlil placed your order?

It would be nice to at least get an official word regarding the release date. A lot of people are in need of a laptop for school, work, etc. and opted for the 17" MBP with the promise of a late January release.

I think I'm going to start shopping around for a different laptop. I've been using both Macs and PCs for the last 13 years or so and I don't feel like I'd be losing anything if I gave up OSX.

It's a shame I have a $1,300 Apple gift card. I should have taken my cash back when I returned my unibody MacBook but I didn't know it would end up like this. I purchased a 15" unibody MBP and ended up returning that as well, for the 17", thinking it would be released late January like Apple said, only to be left without a laptop.

Overall I'm just appalled, yet not surprised, at the way Apple is handling the release of this thing. The least they could do is make some type of announcement about it so we aren't left in the dark.

Wah wah wah.

I'm sorry, but a two week delay is not "appalling". People are not going to die. The world is not going to end. In the big scheme of things, 2 weeks is nothing.

Hey, at least Apple sent out a message saying there is a delay rather than just sticking the wait onto the shipping with no notification.

As for the phone reps, it does take time for things to filter down to the people actually answering the calls. The PR release may not have been released when they started work, so they won't have been briefed on it.

It isn't a two week delay. Some people have mid-late March delivery dates. That's a two month delay, and who knows if they will even deliver by then at this point?

Can I get a link to this message that they sent out, because I haven't seen anything. If they have made a public announcement, then I'd feel better about sticking with my original plan. Emails sent out to only the people who ordered first saying "sorry but we can't ship your product until the 19th" isn't really respectable IMO.

Right now I'm looking at the Vaio AW series, the dell XPS Studio 16 and possibly an AlienWare. I never realized how much more I can get for my money.

You wont get more for your money, look very closely at the specs, i used to think that as well.

However you are right, its nearly a month now which is ridiculous,

Try telling that to people who's businesses and livelyhoods are suffering down time, at the worst possible time during a recession/depression because Apple cant get their acts together. Thats a really naive statement. Businesses have to plan these changes months ahead, and have litterally one set of computers being taken out of service and another set being delivered over a matter of 1 or 2 days. Its really unacceptable. Apple needs to set a concrete delivery date and stick to it so we can make plans.

It must even be annoying for those people who want to plan to be in when the computer arrives so they can sign for it, rather than having to wait a further 48 hours.

I really think your overreacting. Any business that is timing a 'switch out' within days or even organising the removal of their current systems on Estimated delivery dates is doomed to fail from stupidity. And to blame Apple for peoples suffering during a depression because they delayed a Machine a few weeks, I can only imagine you in a real crisis jeez. The 15" still ships within 24 hours, as does the Mac Pro, the MacBook the Mac Mini the iMac.. All of which can be used as the source for a system migration once the 17" finally do ship.

Sure the delay is annoying but its not like anything your overstating it to be. To listen to your statements anyone would think Apple just cancelled their Macintosh line to concentrate on the iPhone and other consumer products.

No but im just pointing out Dell can give me a concrete delivery date and im paying 50% less for their products, now i love Apple and i actually need OS X for work, but with the price im paying i would expect better customer service, especially from such a large American company, (with $20 Billion in the bank)

I'm sure everyone is with me when I say that we are dissapointed. But that's all it really is. If someone doesn't already have a Machine then how did they order it in the first place? People shouldn't be throwing their current systems away before the new ones arrive anyway (For migration reasons among others like the chance that the Estimated delivery dates aren't met).

I'm annoyed as much as anyone having ordered one recently expecting it to ship from the factory within 7 to 10 days but I understand how these things can happen. If peoples livelihoods are on the line over this they should order a 15" or rent a machine until the 17" is available.

I really don't think it's overreacting at all. It's just a loss that some businesses have to bear the cost even if they have planned a B plan in advance. An example case would be me just an international student studying in Australia who changes the flight so that it would match the delivery date in advance. Now that the date has changed, it seems like my semester would start before the MBP arrives so now I really have to carry my current MBP with me to Australia.

You know, the cost or extra effort from this may be minimal, but it does make things harder not to live up with promises. I bet now the higher-up people in Apple are running around trying to get people not to cancel their orders. This surely would affect their business.

Has anyone called Apple to find out more about the issue? Anyone threatened to cancel? If so, have the agents done anything to keep the order?

And yet do you think Apple would delay it even if they could ship them? - It's not Apples fault that they cant get a part or its Chinese new year or whatever. If they could they would be shipping them. What do you want them to do build a hardware version of Time Machine? :D

I'd like to know that too, if people started phoning up en masse ive got a feeling theyre gonna get desperate to keep business.
