Yeah I just got the email... Ordered Jan 6th with ship of Feb 4th and delivery Feb 9. Just now got the email at 4:30 eastern!!!!!!!!!! delaying it until the 19th. I would have been OK if this happened a few days ago but why the hell do they have to wait till the last second!!!

What is holding it up so long?

My theory is that they made them, and then realised the graphics cards sucked b***s because they all kept breaking, and now theyre having to remake them. Thats the rumours coming from China, and im inclined to agree, because if they were perfect first time off the production line, why havnt even one or two computers been shipped yet?

Also the Apple store managers were told to be prepared for them by this Tuesday, so their must be some pretty major technical *uc* up on the production side since they dont have any yet.

If that's the case then fine...but I'm guessing they under-estimated how long it would take to complete and they wanted an early date for the MacWorld conference. I think if it was a major issue like that it would take longer than a week or two to fix.

Here's the text of the email I just received:

To Our Valued Apple Customer:

Thank you again for your order!

Wrapping up the new 17-inch MacBook Pro is taking a few days longer
than we projected.

As a result, we will be unable to ship your 17-inch MacBook Pro
until February 19, 2009.

If you don't want to wait, you may cancel your order and receive a
prompt refund by calling our toll-free customer service number at
800-676-2775 or by visiting our online order status website at
http://www.apple.com/orderstatus.

If we do not hear from you before we ship the 17-inch MacBook Pro to
you, we will assume that you have agreed to this shipment delay. In
that event, a shipment notification with tracking information will be
emailed to you as soon as your order is shipped.

Again, there is no need to contact us unless you wish to cancel
your order.

We appreciate your business and apologize for any inconvenience this
delay may have caused you.

Thank you for shopping at the Apple Online Store!

Sincerely,
The Apple Online Store

All I can say at this point is ugh.

good GOD.

WHY APPLE. WHY?! Bull**** you had trouble "wrapping up" my MacBook Pro. What's the problem now??!

I got the bump to fbe 19th too, so I gave apple a call and explained how dissapointed that I am with the fact that I was told my date was solid and that it would ship out Feb 9th. They offered to let me choose a free case from the apple store. I picked the $99 incase backpack for the 17 inch. I don't feel as bad now since they are willing to take care of their customers. So If I were yall I would call and complain saying that its not right that we had a date and that now its changed.

dirty, dirty, wh0res.

 :D

Sorry all you guys are still waiting.

Still, you'll be doing the community a great beta-testing service when you finally get your sweaty mitts on them ;)

Ugh.....

Being a college student with out a computer sucks. And I love how the email even says not to contact them unless you are cancelling your order. I almost feel like it, but hell I've been waiting since June for this sucker to come.

I know after all that wait. Expected it to come with the 15" unibody since last October... no.

Ordered in January and in the end I probably get it in March. Looks like my current MBP cannot early retire then I guess. Damn it. Now I have to stay with this beach ball every 10 min machine.

I just called to see what the deal was... I wasn't rude, or anything... just calm and firm. The Apple rep knocked $100 off the cost. Showed up immediately on my order.

I've just checked in on my delivery time and it's still showing a ship date of February 3 which has come and gone with a delivery date of the 10th.

I have called Apple and they said there is a chance it COULD be in build and I MAY see it by the 15th. Nothing concrete.

I'm extremely impatient so I'll have regular updates no doubt.

The 15" Pro's were the Beta's.
These are like the 2nd Revision if you think about it.

I'm just yanking your chain, although for me the big unknowns are the display and battery.
Seriously though yeah it doesn't look too good having up to a month's delay, but it's happened many times before with Apple, hopefully it's not a huge technical issue but logistical.

BLEAK.

Ships: February 19th

I HATE APPLE ZOMG I KNOW YOU ALL DO TOO DONT LIE IM NOT GONNA BUY ANY MORE APPLE THINGS

Yep, I'm sure you'd be much happier if Apple shipped you something that melted through your lap. As disappointed as I am, I'd rather have a machine that works well but was delayed a week than one that doesn't and arrived on time.

I suggest that you stay away from pre-release technology if you're impatient. Delays are par for the course. It's actually uncommon for vendors to hit their dates (with few exceptions).
