Your screenshots are completely different from any websites or emails I've seen. Obviously Apple US and Apple UK have different approaches to customer communication. I think I prefer the honesty in the UK version but this goes some way towards explaining why all the yanks are so uptight about this.

Indeed. On my forms and emails from Apple it says Estimated next to any Ship and Delivery Dates. I'm in the UK. I don't know why the US store would remove something like that. Seems idiotic by Apple.

I also noticed that we received at-least 3 different delay emails by word.

Some people received this one:
Thank you again for your order!
Wrapping up the new 17-inch MacBook Pro is taking a few days longer
than we projected. As a result, we will be unable to ship your 17-inch MacBook Pro until February 19, 2009.

However I received this one:
Thank you again for your order!
Completing the new 17 -inch MacBook Pro is taking a little longer than we projected, and we now expect to begin shipping on 19th February 2009.

And I believe I saw a 3rd one posted on another forum.

I hope they offer some minimal compensation like $100 off or something like they did with the iPhones (albeit it was for different reasons). Its not the end of the world to be receiving the laptop later or by the expected shipping date of Feb 4th like many of us had.. but rather than falling a day or two short they are falling a good 15 days short of expectation..

I think that is good enuf reason for a minimal compensation since some of us had plans based on the estimated delivery dates. Its also true that many estimates end up being pushed back on other gadgets as well, but this was for an individual order.. not a generalized worldwide release of the product.

I agree. It seems the logical thing to do would simply place "estimated" on all just to cover yourself, and as well not mislead any customer. I am in the US, and am not proud, but we have so many people so anxious to file lawsuits over wording such as this.. people that will nitpick the slightest details for no better reason than "they can." That is a part of my country that I am very ashamed of.. the result tends to be overly worded caveats, precautions, warning, estimate, etc.. people here take everything so literal and take personal offense even if it's slightly off.. I'm sure the wording on the site, dates, and changes all have some legal team behind the scene trying to do their best, cover themselves from the "sue-happy" folks, and most likely has some good reason behind it.

Another example would be all the class action lawsuits people are filing over their 3G Iphones.. claiming their speed is not up to par with what Apple promised... no offense, but I'm sorry if you live in a town of 23 people, two cats, and a mule... I highly doubt the cell provider is concerned about breakneck speed in your area.. vs a more business minded area. If it's blatant error, such as a flaw in the device, something clearly not working properly.. these companies gladly replace, take care, and even compensate you in most cases. Like I said before.. I'll wait for my Feb 19th delivery knowing that is the quickest Apple could get it to me in the shape I demand and have come to expect.. not gonna lose any sleep over a few days

i couldnt have said it better

I just hope they hurry up so that you guys/gals can do the real world testing for me before I buy one. :D

I mean, really... doesn't Apple know that the screen on my laptop, my only computer, is slowing dying and that I need to get a new computer soon? Jeez! :p

Anyone else think there could be a hardware issue with it, delaying release? Hopefully they don't release gimped hardware just to get it out (360 anyone?)

I've decided to just do it...at least I will know a date.

Ships: Feb 10
Delivers: Feb 13

Where did you get this price? I would like to order one as well, but can't find anything cheaper than $2799.

Thanks in advance if you can help.

That's with a ADC or Apples Developers discount. Its a paid membership and you can get up to 20% off new hardware. But if you are not a student the membership costs around $500. For Students is $99 and you get 1 hardware purchase.

Do you have to be an IT student or any student. I am in med school?

I think it sorta works the same way as if you are getting your student discount from the Apple store. As long as your school qualifies you should be able to get the discount.

I was going to get it from the ADC store but I'm to impatient and waited and saved to long so I am forgoing the $230 savings on my 15" MBP and just getting it right from the store.

(Oh yea, you can only order the Hardware online through the ADC store.)

Did all of your shipping dates change on your order status pages or did you just get the "delayed" email? Because I haven't gotten an email or a date change. My order status page still says shipping Feb. 10th. So now I have no idea of when to expect it.

It wont....have you tried cleaning your browser cache?
if it does it love to see a screenshot, because your the only person on planet earth with that date.

I doubt it's a hardware issue, if it was the delay would be a log longer. It's probably something stupid like the boxes haven't come in or something or the stickers that come with the computer.

Picture or it didn't happen :D

Charged

I just got charged the full amount for my 17-incher (ordered January 13). I now expect my order to ship immediately in 13 days.

You're the first to be charged that has been recorded on the forum. Yours should ship in the next day or two then.

Hugh? Shipped immediately in 13 days? Whats immediate about that?

I think he was being sarcastic. Immediately and 13 days don't go together :p
That's 312 hours from the money being taken to the time they ship it out.

However I do gotta say if they took the money now its possible they are going to ship his machine much sooner then 13 days. Perhaps they have received the part that was holding up the orders? I also noticed that Chinese New Year would have come to a close today (China usually halts for 10 days from the date of Chinese New Year when city workers go home to their families. FYI Jan 26th was Chinese New Year).

I doubt they will change peoples estimates just to cover the bases but I wouldn't be surprised if a few people start getting confirmation emails on dispatch either tomorrow or the day after :D Of course I'm just making educated guesses based on the facts and they are all open to wide interpretation. Me = Crosses Fingers & Toes

Yeah, you know, by next Wednesday, they will have FEDEX, UPS, the cookie monster and anyone else that can carry the box delivering these bad boys. Once they start charging, it is all the speed of electricity from there.

We still don't have a confirmation they are charging. One guy said they charged the amount but is that a hold...? I need more than one to confirm they are charging and if they are charging I would give them a call and find out why they are charging two weeks in advance.

Probably a joke. I actually am surprised someone hasn't tried to pull an April Fools type deal on making everyone think theirs is somehow on the truck right now for delivery today. We all really have very little way to verify what most people say on the forum and corroboration ends up being the only real test.

My card had the full amount placed on hold on Monday.. but still the actual charge has not gone though on the card. I keep checking to see if the charge comes though hoping it will mean a soon ship.. but so far no luck yet..
