My card had the full amount placed on hold on Monday.. but still the actual charge has not gone though on the card.

I called Apple to ask why I was charged the full amount today, given the new shipping delay, and I was told that despite the charge my MBP was still expected to ship on February 19.

I was being a bit facetious when I said I expected my MBP to ship "immediately" in 13 days. In other words, even though I was charged today, I wasn't really getting my hopes up that it would ship any earlier than February 19.

At any rate, that's my update.

That's a .jpg of LIES.

That's what I am thinking too. I just wish they would update it. This Mac is replacing a broken late 2008 model I bought. Apple is replacing it with a brand new uni... Someday.

(Heh. What browser you using, Mosaic?)
I run Opera. The best browser out there! www.opera.com

The .jpg looks funny because I printed it to .pdf and then in Acrobat Pro selected and saved the file as a .jpg.

Hi,

It's the full amount.. I ordered on the 7th of January in the UK and my original shipping date was 4th of February... My current shipping is as everyone else (19th of Feb).

And the dominos begin falling. Once one card is charged, that means they are on the cusp and UPS/FEDEX/etc... has been called for pickup.

BTW, in am in Texas and no charge yet. I had an original ship date of 2/12 and it says 2/19 now, but it may still ship 2/12 if everyone's card starts getting charged.

I spoke to an Apples representative today in Sales. She made it 100% clear to me that they will not charge my Card until they ship the unit (Or are about to).

So if your being charged ..... either they really screwed up or your unit is coming earlier then projected.

Shipping earlier than the current ship date is my bet. Every time I talked to an Apple rep, they stated the ship date indicators are always worst case and often (most often) they ship before those dates because Apple wants their money just as bad as you want your KFC laden fingers all over those unibody keys.

As I stated previously, I wouldn't be surprised if these were shipped out early. It makes perfect sense:

1) 17" MBP announcement
2) People started placing their orders
3) Customers told their orders will arrive on promised date
4) They now change the date due to some unknown reason?
5) Just to be on the safe side, or to give the element of surprise, they give a two/three week delay date
6) However, realistically - they will ship it early.

Thats how I would of done it :)

This might not mean anything, but...

Apple is replacing my old mpb with the new 17". The day of the delays (feb 4th, which was also the original ship date for my replacement), I got a call from my apple store updating me on the status of my replacement. The guy I talked to said he spoke to a representative at apple corporate and that they expected my machine to ship within a week!

It's possible some signals got crossed somewhere, and of course my order page still lists feb 19, but let's keep our fingers crossed that we get these boxes early.

Ok, Apple must be done charging credit cards today; else, many many folks that ordered don't have a clue about when theirs will arrive and are just sitting around knowing the FEDEX guy will show up some day.

I am a bit interested to see if anyone in the US has been charged the full amount in the past couple days.

I know I haven't (I'm a Texas boy).

I've just been looking at the timeline when I ordered my original MacBook Pro.

11th Jan 2006: Ordered :)

Estimated shipping: 15th Feb 2006
Estimated delivery: 23rd Feb 2006

13th Feb 2006: Debit card charged (full amount) :)
14th Feb 2006: Debit card refunded (full amount)

14th Feb 2006: Email from Apple

Bumped to shipping on 28th Feb, delivery on 10th Mar
Free processor upgrade announced :)

20th Feb 2006: Email from Apple

Despatched from China with delivery estimated as 2nd Mar :)

24th Feb 2006: Delivered! :D

Note that my card was charged and refunded a whole week before it shipped, so don't get your hopes up.

Also note that, for all the fannying around and all the talk of additional delays, the actual delivery was only one day later than Apple's original estimate.

Bravo :D

Mine went from shipping the 24th to shipping the 27th, no big deal, but they gave me 50 bucks off and a free upgrade to 2 day shipping so I'm happy at the moment.

Listen, I had an incredibly boring dream last night, in which I woke up and went to work. Give me a break, right? But get this - before I left, I checked order status, and it had switched to "Preparing for shipping."

THIS IS A SIGN PEOPLE

Did you guys call and ask for these rebates/upgrades/etc or were they just added to your order? Mine moved to shipping on the 19th but I haven't seen any freebies added. It may be because my original order said delivers between the 12th and the 20th.

I called. I had placed a phone order in the first place and had the rep's extension so I called and asked him if I pretended to be really pissed off about the delay could I get something out of it like all these ppl online were getting. He made a call to another guy, I talked to him and 2 minutes later I had my rebate. This was at the actual Apple store, dont know about macmall and stuff like that.

I might try that...I ordered mine also from the Apple Store but online instead of with a rep.

I checked Media Markt in Rotterdam (The Netherlands) and they told me earliest delivery would be in the first week of March. There seems to be a supply shortage of the displays.

This is unlikely as the displays are generic TN panels.

The most likely reason for the delay is exactly what Apple have said, they have trouble wrapping them.

When you design a new product, the most overlooked thing is the packaging, and the 15" Unibody's got new, much smaller boxes than the old 15" MBP's, so it stands to say the 17" ones will have as well.

If you think about it, the only thing different from the old 17" or the 15" unibody is the Screen which as i've said already is fairly generic, and most likely plentyful in China, the battery which by the way isn't anything new, its fairly generic too, just a new shape, and the packaging.

The only other possible reason other than the packaging for the delay is actually something that came to me during a meeting we were having on shipping at the company i work for, think about it, Apple has already said they've had unprecidented demand for this product, above what they were expecting, now this is probably marketing speil to make you think its popular, but also if they had loads of orders they may decide to scrap the original plan of flying the 17"'s to their delivery stations in the US, Europe etc and Ship them over in a cargo vessel instead, (as a container ship can carry many more computers than a cargo flight could) which is why we all have the same shipping date.

You ever think apple may put their customers on hold for awhile, and make up a reasonable answer? I could imagine all of the people that are calling about their orders. I know at my work a customer will ask about a product coming in and I'll ask a particular manager and they'll say one day and another manager another, until I find out that they really don't know but are just estimating. (sometimes they're way off) I haven't even ordered the 17" MBP yet because I'm waiting for my return! Hope to see many pictures when all of your machines arrive.

Hi

I ordered my 17" MBP on the 5th Feb, I gave up waiting for them to come in store so I decided to buy online.

It has the 2.93ghz processor and the 320gb 7200rpm drive. Those are the only upgrades I made to it, no preinstalled extras. NADA.

My estimated shipping date was the 5th March and delivery date was the 16th March.

On the 6th of FEB the full amount for the laptop was taken out of my account.

From reading what you guys have been saying is that my 17" is ready to ship?
BUT
Considering I just ordered it, this seems unfair as other people have ordered theirs earlier yet have not been charged yet....
I'm thinking the idea of being charged relating to shipment might be a bit off or I am very very very lucky.
