Just talked to an Apple Rep

I submitted a feedback form about the whole delay issue, and received a reply from an Apple Rep. First let me say, that I'm so impressed that I even got a call--even though it was unnecessary. I'm pleased. Apple is the only company I know with great customer support.

I was promised a rebate a few days ago and they said they would honor that, but that they are under no obligation to provide it because it was a pre-order. I was a little miffed about that. I pointed out that I've always received my Apple products ahead of the projected delivery dates in the past. And that the shipping date was not ambiguous.

He tap danced around the delivery date question. It clearly stated the shipping date when I ordered my MBP. However, I have yet to see a change in my order pricing. I expect they will follow through on that, when it is shipped, and I think this is reasonable. Apple is realizing that quite a lot of people are discussing this issue here in this forum, and are worried about a snowball effect costing a lot of money.

I can live with the delay, the small rebate makes up for it. Still, anyone asking for a rebate now might find it harder to get.

Just ordered...

OK, placed an order today for a 17" with 2.93Ghz, glossy, and base disk (already have the 500Gig disk that will replace it). The 'scheduled' ship date came up March 10th...

Just FYI...

where about do you live? im in the UK and have not ordered yet, but will soon. but dates as late as 10th march are ridiculous for something which was supposed to be out already. This will be my first ever purchase from Apple but already im dissapointed :(!

I had ordered my MacBook pro on Friday the 6th of febuary and it was the base model and the ship date as of today was march 9th a little longer than I had thought but it's all ok.

I'd be curious to know if anyone has ordered a stock book? No mods, no custom upgrades, nothing. Curious what the ship date on those are. So far it seems all of us who have placed our orders this custom specs, the delays are tend to be longer. I ordered 2.9, 320GB 7200RPM, with 8 gigs of RAM, glossy display.. my original ship was 2/9, pushed to 2/19 last week with no email so far. They put a hold on my card for the full amount last week which has not dropped off yet. The initial authorization came and released after my order was placed mid January.. this new hold was new last week, 2-3 weeks after I placed the order. I as well noticed I can no longer change my shipping info, billing info, or anything on the order now..

Seems like US custom orders are all getting the 2/19 ship date, and all UK orders are getting the 3/10 date.. curious for those who ordered stock model, what ship dates are looking like.. or if all orders US and UK are now pushing out to 3/10 because of the number of orders... guess will will all know next week when the 19th arrives for those who have that as a ship date.

I was inclined to believe, after so many delays.. surely Apple would over estimate this ship date a little to create some breathing room. And given the fact that we are all starting to see shipping fields blocked from edit, cards getting authorizations on them.. there is a chance we could see them early.. Apple has always sent my orders early in the past.. not gonna sweat it though.. within the next few weeks we will all be blazing away on our new books and I'm sure praising Apple again.. I mean.. they are giving out rebates, shipping enhancements, etc... I'm pretty sure you would not get that from most PC companies..

That is so crazy.. confusing would be a better way to say it.. I ordered the custom config listed above.. and ship date was 2/9 then 2/19..

I'd bet my bottom dollar those with stock orders will start getting shipping confirmations soon.

I really hope your right on that but then I would feel bad for the people who ordered the day of the release

Well, I live in the US (Texas) and having been in a product development group myself (I work for IBM). A company that makes more schedules than it misses (like Apple) is extraordinary. If you look at Microsoft, they frequently do not deliver their products in the same YEAR that they told the public, much less within a few weeks. A few weeks delay is annoying, but I think it may only be annoying because they have such a good track record, unlike other major companies in the IT industry.... And given what must be a very popular system, a shipment date of only 4 weeks for a customized configuration in a brand new production line is actually not too bad. I expect, though, that the other commenters on this board are probably right in that it is a pessimistic date (he says hopefully...).

Just hope that people in Aussieland would get it shipped by 2/19 as well since everything about the machine is the same as the US model but the duckhead at the charging adapter and the user manual.

I'm in the UK and I have a shipping date of the 19th of Feb. From what I've seen anyone that ordered before Apple delayed the orders has an estimated shipping date of the 19th of Feb except people who ordered the Anti-Glare which have an estimated ship date 2 weeks after 19th of Feb. Anyone who then ordered after Apple put the delays in to the 19th then get a delay till March 4th to March 10th (No mater what config).

To Recap:
- Glossy Orders (Any Config) Before Feb 5th have a Ship date of Feb 19th
- Anti-Glare Orders (Any Config) Before Feb 5th have a Ship date of March
- Any orders made after Feb 5th have a Ship Date of March
- Anti-Glare is 2 weeks longer delay then Glossy under all Circumstances

If you are planning to replace the internal disk you realise you can't open the 17" unibody..

Actually you can replace the internal disk. There are screws on the base which allow you to remove the entire bottom panel making the RAM and Hard Disk accessible. Apple fully supports users who change the RAM or Hard Disk themselves as seen on the MacBook Pro 17" Page:

Apple.com said:
Everything fits.
The 17-inch MacBook Pro supports up to 8GB of 1066MHz DDR3 memory and comes with a large 320GB hard drive,4 so there’s plenty of room for your photo and video projects and other files. It also offers an optional 128GB or 256GB solid-state drive, which has no moving parts for enhanced durability. And for burning DVDs, it includes an ultrafast 8x SuperDrive. You can upgrade the memory and hard drive yourself, or take it to an Apple Authorized Service Provider.

Its nothing to do with where you live, everyones been delayed to the 19/2, UK, US, even China.

Some people who order now will be later than that.

Doesn't Apple make a widget to track all this for us?

I have ordered this: MacBook Pro 17" | 2.66 GHz | 4 GB Ram | 320 GB / 7200 RPM | Glossy Display | Apple Cinema Display 24" LED

Apple Wired Keyboard Danish. Elgato EyeTv Hybrid to my Cabel TV DVB-C.

Delivery 27/2-2009

Could it be the delay is due to the number of glossy and matte displays ordered? I ordered a matte display. It seems the longest shipping delays are for the glossy.

I have a new ship date of Feb 27 (old date was Feb 20). I ordered Jan 7.

Pure spectulation on my part!

Anybody care to tell me why my delivery date NEVER CHANGED?

It still reads FEB 11.

That would be TOMORROW GUYS!

I never got a letter from apple either. I ordered on JAN 20

I bet my 2cents that it will ship tomorrow and I will get it soon after.

I am checking the right tracking page. It is the only computer I am expecting, so the number is correct.

I just cleared my cache and it says NOT YET SHIPPED

SHIPS FEB11

I checked on different browsers, on my wife's computer and STILL THE SAME.

Apple probably haven't updated your page yet. I think the earliest is Feb 19.

If I'm wrong you may call me Mildred.
