This is really pissing me off, because I want to get one now, not wait for 3-4 weeks or longer. I'm thinking about getting the 15.4" model, waiting until they get the 17" in stock at the apple store, take the 15.4 " one back, to upgrade to the 17". Is that even an option, i mean, will they allow me to do that?

I'm anxious too but the 8 hour battery life, 1920x1200 screen, faster CPU and apparently faster clock on the 9400/9600M video cards is worth the wait for me.

And no. You'll pay restocking fees too.

Sure if you're willing to get stuck with a 15% restocking fee and if you can do it within 2 weeks. Personally I'll just wait until the 19th and see what happens.

I've done it twice already. Returned 13" MacBook for 15" MacBook Pro. Wasn't happy with that either, so I returned it and I'm waiting for the 17". As long as you get a nice employee you should be OK. I told them that the guy who helped me said I could return it without a restocking fee if I wanted to upgrade and that I was on the fence about the purchase, but he convinced me since he told me that. It was the truth, and they took it back without a restocking fee.

When I returned the MacBook Pro, I told them that I wasn't happy and that I'd rather have the 17" Since it was absolutely mint (barely used), I formatted it and told them I didn't even use it, jus topened it. She turned it on and saw the "welcome to OSX" video play and said "wow, you really didn't use this." :p

Now I'm just waiting for the 17" to come out. I think I returned the 15" three weeks to a month ago.

The 19th is 9 days from now. I'm wondering why the site still says 3-4 weeks instead of 7-10 days. Maybe the 19th is for people who had already ordered. Has anyone ordered since that email was sent out? If so, what's your ship date?

Most new orders are showing March 4 or 10 for shipping now.. All older orders that once had Feb 9 or 11 as their ship dates seem to be pushed to the 19th.. new orders are still a couple weeks out for custom.. I imagine once shipping begins.. a stock model will ship sooner and Apple will again change the time frame. Was just a week or so ago they changed it to 7-10 days.. then quickly changed it back once the delay went out... figure they will change it again to 7-10 days once the shipping starts on current orders. Then slowly get it updated to 24 hours shipping notice once caught up..

That's what I did. Just call your apple store and see if they have any open box 15"s or even an old 17". I've had a 15" for about a month now and they actually called me when the 17" delay email went out to see if I still wanted to hold onto the 15" for now, pretty good customer service overall. At this point I don't know why you'd go through the hassle of going to get a 15" and then return it in 10-12 days, unless you need to do work on it that can't wait? Although I guess it would really be a month if you ordered a 17" today...

I am planning a trip to the moon in the next couple days. I bet my new MB Pro is delivered by the time I get back.:apple:

Wait.. I'm actually being serious.. Are you an Astronaut?? There are many people in here with extraordinarily amazing jobs. :D

Astronauts are crazy. Dated one once, it didn't go all too well, she ended up cruising cross-country to kick my ass for a little tryst I had with a CAPCOM and FIDO. Wore a diaper the entire trip so she wouldn't have to stop for bathroom breaks. Coincidentally, she had to stop for gas, you'd think they'd go hand in hand… anyway, the more of them on the moon, the better, if I do say so myself. Astronaut armed with a 17" piece of aluminum is a scary thought, even without the diaper.

.... doesn't have a firewire port, has a terrible battery

Has 3 USB slots, 4-in-1 card reader, over 7 hours of real-world battery life, lighter than a MacBook Air, costs 3x less.....

has similar specs to my Windows 95 desktop....

Actually, like a single core G5, or the Celeron M when the Centrino Pentium Ms were the top mobile processors. They're not that weak, actually.

$20.00 says it doesn't.

We'll remember that. :p

If you are in a rush to get a new book quick.. I'd just hold off on the order and wait for the 17 to arrive in the store.. go for stock unless you specifically have to have custom. With all of us having ship dates of 2/19, and new customs pushing into March.. stands to reason the stock models wills how up in stores next week.. rather than getting the 15 and trading in after installing apps, getting set up, etc... if you are not ordering custom.. head to the Apple store and pick up a stock next week.. no wait, no restock, no reinstall, etc.

I own a business heavy in video, graphics and web.. so my 17 needed be the equiv of a fine Italian sports car... 2.9, 8 gig ram, etc.. so I'll be waiting patient for the 19th

I'm hoping they show up in stores when they start shipping (supposedly the 19th) because I'm going for a stock model. I would assume they'd ship to stores at the same time as they ship to customers.

I wish the stock models would ship before mine is said to ship march 9th for me. So not all true that the custom MacBook Pros are shipping later than stock models but hey that could change who knows only time will tell I guess.

new 17 inch macbook pros in stores?

so you guys think we will see the new macbook pros in stores as soon as next week? i cant wait and need a macbook asap. if i bought the 17 inch that are in stores now the older generation would they make me pay a restocking fee if i took it back within the 14 day return policy to and get the unibody 17 inch?

i highly doubt that stores will receive these mbp's before all the stock pre-orders. many people ordered stock laptops and their dates are delayed too. just because their date says march doesnt mean it will take till march to receive them. i am pretty sure all the stock pre-orders will be fulfilled the same day they ship to stores.

the only difference is that while many stores will not display or sell them till 24 hours after receiving them (wait till store closes to update the showroom) -or- some may sell them immediately after receiving the shipment and you can fight to get one in stores when they are new in demand... but those that pre-order online will be opening up his/her new mbp immediately while the other 2 instances in stores occur.

OK guys here is a screenshot of my order..

mac.jpg

Apple Corporate Executive Relations is replacing my almost 3 year old 17 mbp (2.16mhz) because the screen and keyboard failed 3 times each...

Anyway, after communicating directly with corporate offices (don't ask me how) and expressing my issue, someone at that level gave me an order number telling me that it would ship FEB 11.

That was las JAN 20th

check it for yourselves...

I thought that since everybody's orders were changing, mine would be changed as well, but after checking today 7 times, it still reads the same...

I am not joking guys, it will ship tomorrow!

.

So?!? Has it shipped?!?! Tell us Tell us Tell us :):apple:

I am in a similar boat as you. My late 2008 17" MBP is being replaced with a new 17" unibody MBP. The difference is that my order status has said and STILL says my new compter was shipping yesterday Feb. 10th. It sure did not. I called Apple a few times after hearing of delays on here only to be told they have no idea when it will ship. The best they could do was look online to the Apple store and say, "says here 3-4 weeks for delivery so it could be as long as a month because they are on backorder."

I've called 4 times to try to get a date and have gotten nothing.

I hope you have better luck than me but I wouldn't get my hopes up.

I sincerely hope, but also sincerely doubt it will ship tomorrow.
Has your credit card been charged?

My credit card has charged today.
Apple took all of the money.
My shipping day still 27/03 uk apple store.
Costume configuration.
What that means?
:apple:

They did.
My bank called me an asked me if I agree with the charge from
APPLE COMPUTER INTL. and it’s also in my web banking page.
:D

pre-auth, when you did you order? There is no way you have a shipping date of March 27th with custom configurations and they are shipping soon.
