I ordered a stock model except Swedish country package (power) and US keyboard on February 2nd (would've still been the 1st in the US). I got shipment notification that it was being sent via UPS Ireland this morning. At first Apple estimated Feb 25, but now it is estimating Feb 19. Unfortunately I'll be heading to the US for two weeks for a wedding on the 19th.

Guys, while this thread is entertaining and all, and we all are excited about our new 17-inchers.. could you please cool down with the arguments on who got the better deal and who paid the least amount. Or I will have to tell you what I paid. Sweden have 25% VAT, you know..

Thankfully I have an enskild firma (sole proprietorship) and it's for work so I get the VAT back.

I'm starting to think I'm better off ordering online and waiting a few weeks than waiting for them to show up in Apple stores.

I should ordered it online in January instead of waiting.

And when did you place your order?

Interesting.

My G5 and later, my Mac Pro both were built in (and shipped from) Ireland.

All my laptops have come from China, however, and they all were shipped and tracked from there.

Perhaps Apple has a plant building these in Ireland, or perhaps they've adopted a way of bulk packaging for their initial distribution, and have final packaging lines nearer the delivery locations. If so, delivery times should be very fast.

Apple has a distribution centre in Ireland, near Dell's. They dont make anything there, but they've probably got loads of these in crates waiting to be shipped to the rest of Ireland and the UK.

I don't understand as to why it takes so long to deliver once it's been shipped . I would have thought delivery is a matter of 2 days at the most.

Even stuff I've bought from Hong Kong took only 3 days to be delivered to my UK address.

Of course, I am only moaning as I am waiting anxiously for mine to arrive.

If I recall correctly the Apple estimate is always later than the courier estimate. See if that's earlier.

The delivery will only take 3 days, Apple always give you longer estimates, like 10 days. Once the plane its on has landed, you will get a UPS tracking number and then it will be on its way, bear in mind its a 12 hour flight from China to the UK.

I'm so frustrated, I can't imagine Apple would start sending custom orders of people who ordered after me first. I'm going to call but I know I'm going to get some idiot that just says all they know is the order should go out on the 19th like it says in the order. SOOO god damn frustrating.

What's the latest someone has ordered and had theirs shipped? I've seen the proof of a Jan 15th ordered shipped, anyone later?

Hi,
from revised order of 13 Jan my Shipment Details are
"Shipped to PETERBOROUGH, GB 17 Feb 2009
Estimated Delivery Date (Subject to change) 26 Feb 2009 (Subject to change)"
Current Delivery Status Shipment dispatched 17 Feb 2009"
BUT the tracking bit just says
"Carrier Tracking Number
In transit to final destination - carrier details to be updated shortly.
Assigned Carrier
In transit to final destination - carrier details to be updated shortly."

The Apple bod I spoke to yesterday said 5-7 days for the 'in transit' time. So all I do know is it's been dispatched BUT I've still no idea WHO it's been dispatched to or WHERE it is. AND I've suddenly become obsessive-compulsive about checking my order details-must be 7 times already!
Seems ages to the 26th & I'm just hoping Apple are doing the 'under-promise' 'over-deliver' business thing.
At least it's shipped 2 days earlier than 'Estimated Shipping' of 19th.

Its on the plane, 12 hour flight, always gets given to UPS in the UK, so you'll have a UPS tracking number by tommorow morning, delivery Friday 20th or Monday 23rd.

Shipped!

:):) I just received the email from Apple that says mine was shipped from Shanghai, China on Feb. 17, 12:06 PM and should arrive to me in Alabama on Feb. 20. I ordered on Jan 7. :):)

From the Australian store...
finally....

Same for U.K. store. Why so long I wonder?

i'm sure it's because they are playing catchup and dont want to under estimate new order shipping times. plus, they've yet to get out a single matte display order, so i'm sure once they get the initial batch of glossy displays out, they'll start on the mattes.

Mine says Prepared for Shipment :D Ordered on Feb 4th specs in Sig.

I just received my tracking number last night.

Left Shanghai, CN at Feb 17th, 12:06pm
Estimated Delivery Feb 20th.

Ordered January 6th, with 2.93 and 7200 upgrade. :D

I think mine is on the same plane as yours. Mine also left Shanghai at 12:06 PM. :)

They may not manufacture anything there but they've a plant somewhere in Ireland. Both my Mac Pro and my old PowerMac bear/bore the legend "Assembled in Ireland".

I think my MDD G4 did, as well, although I bought that second hand and so I didn't track it from the factory.

And I've just received my shipping email. :)
