DRATS... I refreshed the screen and now it says it's been picked up in Shanghai, but that the scheduled delivery date is now March 4. I wonder if it's because I ordered the iWork Family pack with it... perhaps it has to layover somewhere and have the software installed?

Harrumph. 2-3 day shipping, right.

Mine was also delivered, nice machine!

The only problem is that I'm feeling some kind of little "scratch" on the touchpad, tried cleaning it but it won't go away.
Does anybody experience the same? Is this something apple would fix?

I thinks this is going to be annoying....

Wow, looks like Apple is getting these shipped fast. I placed an order last night (Feb. 26) for a 2.93ghz Model, every other option stock. I hope they will ship it soon. My estimated ship date is Mar 6-12. I can't wait for it!!!! It looks like apple is going to beat their estimated ship date

WoOOOOHOOO! Matte 2.93 320/7200 just arrived

It just came at 10:29 (10:30 is cuttoff)!!! I am typing on it now, freakin amazing
The screen space is stunning, no defects at all, and definately no flicker on low brightness like others have encountered!
I think the Fedex truck is refridgerated, cause this thing was almost frosty LOL

A few quick pics from iPhone...

Compared to 15" Lenovo

Already made an appointment to replace my new Macbook Pro, there's a scratch on the touchpad

How come I can't see detaile delivery info?

Hi all,

I am a totally "new to Mac" person coming from 20+ years working with PCs.

I've ordered the new 17" macbook pro, and from reading the forum have realised I made the "mistake" of customising the order to add the VGA cable, and hence my order is taking a longer route to get to me.

Anyway, my question is why is it that unlike everyone else (it seems), my order shipment doesn't show any of the China - Europe - UK stages?

I rang Apple yesterday and they confirmed the expected delivery date of 5th March and said it was in Hinckley which I assume is Hinckley UK, not Hinckley US, but none of the detail shows on the order.

Am I doing something daft?

PS - very excited to soon be exploring the world of Mac + VM Fusion + Mac Office to see if I can operate a Mac in a traditional MS Office customer environment without needing my Vista laptop.

SSD Orders

Love my new 2.93GHz machine. After 3 plus days using it, I am totally hooked on SSD drives. My 3.2GHz Mac Pro is not fast enough for me any more. SSD's are a drug and I am addicted for life. In case you are wondering--the MBP is plenty powerful compared to the 8 core 3.2 Mac Pro.

I hope Snow Leopard makes better use of all those cores. So far the early release is much slower for unknown reasons, while disk access seems better. In any event it is so slow that I won't even load that version. I'm sure that will be fix in future releases. I just received a new build of SL so I may try that one.

According to bench comparisons, it seems the Intel 160 SSD is the drive to get, although I have no complaints with my Apple (Toshiba) SSD. Benchmarks are posted in another thread.

I will say this about SSD. It was an easy choice to decide. I am upgrading my Mac Pro's boot drive with an SSD. And I set a goal of installing a RAID 0 stripe set of 4 with an Areca controller when I find the money $$$$ to spare.

I also plan to upgrade my Mac Mini with an SSD even though the Sata 1 controller will limit it somewhat. Yes indeed, SSD's are a drug and should come with warnings from the surgeon general--hazardous to your bank account.

Without loading any documents, just a few applications I've only used 33GB of space on the MBP. As long as I don't go crazy loading music, pictures, and video, I think 256GB will work fine for me.

Good luck to you all, and may your machines arrive quickly...

Once it says shipped from China you'll get it 7 days later unless that day falls on a weekend in which case you'll get it on the first following Monday. Apple usually delivers at least 3 or more days before the expected delivery date, they like to give massive estimates and then deliver early so they look good.

Sent to manufacturing

Hey everyone,
I ordered mine through an Authorized Campus Store, and we have a slightly different order status page. My machine just was updated as "sent to manufacturing", estimated ship date as the 3rd of march. Anybody see something similar where the computer actually shipped early? After waiting so long I dont really mind waiting another week, but an early arrival would be fantastic....

My 2.93 with 8 Gb and a 256 SSD arrived yesterday ( a whole day earlier than estimated delivery!) but I didn't arrive home until today. Been playing with it for a couple of hours and I am in love with "My Precious"

I echo Night Sailor's sentiments - - hope you all get your mbp's soon!

Oh ya... the anti glare is great!

My 2.93 with 8 Gb and a 256 SSD arrived yesterday...

Wahoo, nice spec. Wanna have ;)

I intend to go for 8 Gig as soon as prices are more acceptable. As well as for SSD, i hope Toshiba is on time with it´s announced 500 GB SSD (or, as second alternative, the announced Sandisc - drive).

I love my 17" MBP, the new one is seriously the perfect notebook. Battery life is fantastic.

You will notice one strange thing, often it will say 3-4 hours of life, but towards the end it jumps and fluctuates to much higher. I've gotten 7 hours web browsing streaming music and doing a bunch of downloads.

There really are no reviews of this machine anywhere!

I can't believe how wonderfull it is!

Ordered mine on Feb. 26th... Estimated Delivery says Mar 6-12.

I realllly hope and pray I get it before that! Please come to me! :)

I'm also waiting for prices to drop on RAM and SSD! Those are my next upgrades for my MBP!

This has got to be "being conservative" otherwise it's inexcusable. You ordered yours well and truly before many of those who have already received theirs. How can they justify that to their resellers? I can understand Apple wanting to serve the people who had ordered from their website prior to the announcement that shipping was being delayed till the 23rd Feb, but anyone who ordered after that was in the same boat (3-4 weeks delivery time)

I understood, when placing the order, not to expect mine till early march... but you must be beside yourself... people who place an order on the Au store last week will be receiving theirs in the next few days but you have to wait till LATE march... Gimme a break! </vent>

We ordered our Rev B. MacBook Air machines the day they were announced in October.

They still haven't arrived. There is not a single Rev B MBA in our entire chain of stores and it's a similar story across the country.

Our 17" MBP demo units and stock also haven't shipped yet so it may very well be week 3 of March.

128gb Ssd

NightSailor's posts have tempted me to change from my order of the 320GB ATA Drive @7200 to an SSD. I ordered through a reseller in late January and they still say up to 3 weeks for delivery, so I guess I can still change.

But there seems to be general disappointment about the Toshiba 256GB SSD in the spec tests. Does anyone know the model of the 128GB SSD, and has anyone done benchmarks using it?

I ordered mine the same day, although I have a custom built only because I upgraded the harddrive to a 7200rpm...and my estimated delivery date is March 9-13 I hope it will ship soon, I am very impatient.

when is the 500gb SSD announced for?

I ordered my 17-inch unibody on Feb. 19th and got an estimated delivery date of March 23rd. Then, they updated it and shipped it out on Feb 26th with a delivery date of March 4th. Now look at what these idiots have gone and done!

I mean, sure it's still a hell of a lot better than March 23rd, but it's such a stupid mistake that shouldn't have happened!

Right - finally pulled the trigger on the 17" model.

Ordered just now, with an estimated delivery time of around 19/20th March, although I know it's going to change as time goes on. Lets see how quickly it takes now, got the Matte screen - and the whole package for an awesome price . My order:

2.93GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM 2X2GB
320GB Serial ATA @ 7200 rpm
SuperDrive 8X
DISPLAY-HI RES, Widescreen
No DVI Adapter
No VGA Adapter
No Remote
No IWork Preinstalled
No Final Cut Exp Preinstalled
No Aperture Preinstalled
No Logic Exp Preinstalled
No Filemaker Preinstalled
No Microsoft Office Preinstall
KYBD/User's Guide -B
Country Kit-GBR
Apple Care

This will serve me even longer than my 15" powerbook has, although having said that, my Powerbook has been relegated to showing presentations to clients and being my iTunes music player as I do all my work on the Mac Pro now.

Not sure what to do with the Powerbook after this. I think I'll take it apart, clean it, maybe re-apply some thermal paste here and there. After 4.5 years this thing gets hot just browsing and watching videos! Then I'll reformat it and, oh I don't know, give it to the missus or mum. The two most important women...
