Can someone explain the point of this thread? The purpose of doing a calibration on a display is to get a correct profile for that particular display in the lighting that it is in at the time the calibration is done. If you then take that profile and try to use it on another machine, the lighting is going to be totally different. I'm not intending this in a negative way... i just don't understand why people are wanting to run someone else's custom profile?

I like one of the profiles I downloaded off of here. If a certain profile looks better to someone when compared to stock, then why not?

OK, I guess. I just never thought about anyone using a custom profile on another machine. But then I have a colorimeter and do a lot of photography work, so I'm probably more particular. Lenovo has come out with a new laptop that has an integrated colorimeter and also a built in Wacom tablet. I'd love to see something like that in a MBP... but unlikely.

Hi Star-fire, i have tried all the profiles here on my 9C84, yours look best to me while performed impressively in the LCD test's criterias: http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/
Except for the sharpness criteria and white saturation criteria which, although still outperform other profiles, still not showing the last 2 boxes, could you upload another profile with gamma 2.2 for us to see if it nails this criteria as well?
Tks a lot

btw, dr.shdw's profile was my favourite however it's a bit too bright to pass the lcd test.
bcaslis' native one is quite good but put my ical's blue tasks into purple, also front row's first icon turns purple as well.

i gotta agree here... i've jumped on to star-fires... it passes the contrast, sharpness, and black level with flying colors... further it passes all boxes of the white saturation test... granted i think it can be toned down one notch cause the 254 box on the lcd-test site is very hard to make out...

i would love to see a 2.2 gamma calibration.

Hi Star-Fire, is it possible that we can have a 2.2 gamma of your brilliant profile for our 9C84? btw i have uploaded 2 wallpapers which i use to compare with different profiles and which the shadow details really benefited from your profile

Here are two of mine. Done with the 9C84 display, gamma of 2.2, and white points of native and 6500K. I would recommend the native white point one, it's what I use.

These were done with an x-rite eye one 2 hardware calibrator and Coloreyes Display Pro software.

this profile was red. and the other profile for the 9C84 by dr. dude was way too cool. I dunno, im sticking with my stock profile for now. it has great colors but it seems a little washed out.

try starfire's profile... i so far have liked that profile the best.

yeah, im pinned between the popular 9C85 profile and starfires profile. the 9C85 profile is richer but it is also darker. almost way too dark.

EDIT: starfires was good looking at it head on but when you shifted viewing angles, the blacks became grey. I think ill stick with the stock color profile for now until a better one comes around. Mines pretty damn good if you ask me.

do u mind posting it?

With my own 9C84 screen I wasn't happy with the emphasis on the bright whites. All the profiles posted here helped a bit, but didn't do the trick for my screen that I was looking for. I was lucky to be able to use my friends' Eye One, and happy with the result, so that's why I share it as it might also work for you.

There is a nice page to see what it does (and some other pages to judge display quality):

It's been very helpful having alternate color profiles for the MacBook Pro-Late 2008. With LED backlighting and twin sources for LCD panels testing various calibration profiles helps zero in on what the display is capable of.

Compared to my external displays, A Dell 24" & Apple 30", the MacBook Pro display has more even backlighting, but a much smaller color gamut, and less color depth with slight banding.

My display uses the 9C84 panel and both the profiles posted by bcaslis work well. They have a neutral white point with well saturated colors and even gray linearity.

The profile I've posted was created with the Pantone huey. It is very similar to the eye one 2 and Coloreyes, but with slightly more even color balance with slightly reduced saturation. Others with the 9C84 display may find it a good match for their calibrated printer profiles.

When I use this profile it appears to have a very high gamma, around 2.8. Anyone else notice this?

Don Hutcheson has created some excellent graphics for checking and comparing color display profiles.

What a fantastic thread. THanks to everyone who has posted their ICC profiles. This is a huge help trying all the different options to find the most eye pleasing. My new MBP has a very harsh yellow tint, and I tend to like things a bit cooler.

I used the SuperCal software to calibrate, and I think I have something I'm close to happy with.

Does anyone know of other free software to calibrate that's works better then the SuperCal?

i used it now too, thanks.

sRGB IEC61966-2.1 is the most accurate colour profile for the mbp. I toyed with user settings on here and even tried my own but nothing compared to it. It exists on all of your MBP's along with ProPhoto RGB which is also very good but contains slightly too many blacks for my liking and also causes some issues for me when using .raw files.

So yeah, sRGB IEC61966-2.1 - dig it out and smile at your beautiful display :)

Is ths color profile already in the mbp?

Gamma 2.2. 9C84 display. Native White Point.

Spyder2Pro calibrator.

Seems less red compared to others posted.

Thx, I find that your profile is nearer to my 2007 WFP native profile.

I dont know why the other profile show the blue color more near to purple.

this profile can show Blue at lest to light blue, eventhough I have set the tft blue color and or brightness still this 2 monitors hardly have the same blue.

best regards

I think It boils down to... the unibody's screen STINKS... I have been editing photos for a long long time... and cant believe how poor the color is on this MBP...

The Spider Pro 3 profile isn't bad and might be the best you are going to get out of this screen... My 3 year old Dell blows this thing away ; (

I could eye ball color b4 i got this Mac, now I have to check my colors with the color picker in PS to make sure its the right saturation ect...

blah someone buy my MBP from me!

Its a matte screen with a glass front...

9C85, calibrated with a Spyder 3 Pro

Awesome profile - however the greys in this forum appear slightly pinkish; anyone else have that with the 9C85 display and this profile?

Otherwise perfect.

i read onetime it is important to calibrate the Display every half year again.

And it is true i used the icc profiles from here and it doesn´t looks half year later more good.

What are you think about it?

I think I used starfires profile. I can't even remember which one I picked now because I went through a bunch, picked my favorite and renamed it. I think "fire" comes to mind though.
