Common Sense 2009 Professional Edition is not always installed. :D

then use a pen and paper.

I'm not patient enough to be a PC person ;)

cool does not equal mac, pc does not equal patience. these two are interchangeable variables though for the most part a ton of mac converts are, for the most part, computer illitrate which is an interesting statistic. sucks having to find refuge in a fisher price version of a modern machine to function in 2009. get with the program and learn, take a class and stop blaming the machines.

Who wants to be carrying big, bulky, 17" Windows laptops around??
Yes, I can see how carrying a 7-pound HP Pavilion 17" is one heck of a backbreaker, compared to a 6.6-pound MBP 17". But I think that for the $2100 she saved, she could afford 10 years at the gym, or an actual slave to carry the HP for her.

That's definitely not recently. Currently the only Mac with 1GB memory is the base Mac mini and it's $150 to upgrade it to 4GB, not $200.
And as a previous poster before me stated, we can get 4GB of ram and put it into a Mac ourselves just as cheap as someone can do it to their PC. If it's Mac Pro or Apple notebook, other than the Macbook Air, it's just as easy to upgrade the memory.

Thank you for the correction. I still have yet to see an overriding reason to buy a Mac. Both from the price point angle and the build quality angle. As far as OS X being a draw, it does absolutely nothing for me. I am one of those people who use multiple operating systems daily, and have used OS X. In my opinion, this operating system is no different than a Linux distribution I can get for free. This could be that it is based on the NeXTSTEP OS which was built on a Unix kernel with features from BSD Unix. (reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NeXTSTEP) So why should I spend several hundred dollars more for a system just to get an OS when I buy any computer off the shelf and download an OS that is just as stable and user friendly as OS X? BTW, this post is being typed on a custom built PC running Ubuntustudio.

I must say that macs are really efficient computers. I use them for video editing at my school and rarely have problems. But I must say, I am sick of the microsoft bashing. Their computers are not that bad. They do the normal everyday tasks and this appeals to the average consumer. Who gives a **** if they don't have garageband or what not. PCs are cheap and do practically what macs do. I respect Microsoft for these new commercials. This will attract many people as we are in a recession and don't have loads of money to spend. They're allowed to throw some low blows, also. I mean, Apple's been doing it for the last decade or so. And people on this forum call this a wuss move. I want everybody to know that I indeed do like macs. It's just that I can't stand this argument of which operating system is better anymore. One more thing, I want somebody to explain to me what is so awful about vista. I only hear people reciting how terrible it is just like the guy they heard from Best Buy say.

I hate to be the one to point out things you most assuredly know, but you are not necessarily an average consumer. I guarentee if I gave my mom a PC with Ubuntu or Ubuntustudio on it, she wouldn't be able to use it compared to her Macbook.

Smart ad by Microsoft. I could have gotten a Mac but instead I got a Dell Inspiron 1420 and pocketed the extra 600$ and am extremely happy with my purchase.

Are you equally as extremely sad at buying an iPod Touch instead of a Zune then?

interesting. make sure you take out an ad for an attractive young lady to tote around the laptop....beats the hell out of spending it on a mac laptop you have to carry yourself:D i am sure there is a looker of an undergrad out there that can use a few bucks.

Give someone that's computer illiterate a machine and I think an OS like ubuntu is quite possibly the best choice.

I'm not sure what universe you live in. I'm fairly computer literate and even I have a hard time using Ubuntu sometimes. It's one of the few places Linux fails, and that's common-user usability. Sure, it's getting better, but to say a computer illiterate person can use Linux better than any other OS is frankly, pretty misinformed.

Very interesting point. If people claim Windows is as stable as Mac OS X systems, then why are they buying up iPod's and iPhone's instead of comparable (and less expensive) Windows counterparts? :)

Ubuntu is a great, stable Linux distro, but saying it is as user friendly as OS X is plain wrong.

The commercial forgets to mention the time and energy wasted trying to setup a wireless network. Vista also REQUIRES expensive Internet Protection that needs to be repurchased on a routine basis.

Really, there is free software available that encompasses everything one needs for Internet Protection. AVGfree for antivirus and Adaware for spyware are just two examples of products that are available for free. Neither of them require a subscription renewal nor do they charge the customer up front. They both are used as benchmarks by magazines that review PC's and software. So yes Virginia, there is free Internet Protection software.

It still comes down to what someone said earlier in the thread:

*You get what you pay for*

And that's not just hardware either. That's the OS + form factor (which DOES matter a lot) + software + hardware + support from the manufacturer. All of it is a factor. And when you consider 1) Apple's superior, more stable OS, 2) awesome form factors on pretty much everything they make, 3) great AMERICAN BASED support, 4) more than ample software selection for tons of avenues, etc, the original statement holds true.

Red-headed stepchild?

I don't get this ad. She looks like a Mac person. And, they are going to buy her a laptop, but don't give her enough money to buy the Macbook that she really wants?

What is she supposed to symbolize? The red-headed stepchild?

Windows. What your parents buy you when they don't love you enough to get you a Mac.

What does an ipod or zune have to do with windows or OSX?

May I ask, if you really loathe Mac products so much and you love Windows (and I have not been stating a preference for either, both have their pro's and con's), why are you on a Mac based site? Simply to instigate arguments with others?

I think that the "not cool enough to be a Mac person" line is precious.

It seems to be a dig against some of the arrogant, elitist attitudes that some Apple users have.

You've seen them, the posers in Starbucks with their Apple logos on display, willy-waving their MBPs while surfing.

You go, Lauren. Start the backlash! ;)

I found this comment somewhat idiotic, with the greatest of respect.

On an Apple notebook, you know fine well that the apple logo is on the lid and lights up when the system is powered on. If you are sitting across from someone using ANY notebook, you see the back of their lid and any logo, regardless of whether it's a Dell, a Sony Vaio, Toshiba, or Apple. So yes, you are correct that their logo is out on display ... but that's the same for any notebook in public, seriously go away and think about what you post before clicking Submit.

You plucked those comments out your head, probably because it sounded better in there, and let it dribble onto your keyboard and as a result have turned an everyday eventuality into a poorly constructed attempt at a joke or dig at Apple users.

I mean, "willy waving" their Mac Book Pro's .... by doing what? Having them on the table in front of them and, God forbid, using their system that they paid for?

Yes, there ARE some arrogant and elitist Apple users out there, but the amount of arrogant Pro-PC/Windows comments in this thread have shown nothing but utter distain and ignorance towards Mac users while demanding some sort of respect in return.

Cause Zunes miss needed features that the ipod touch has. Windows Vista, in my opinion, does not miss needed features that OS X has.

That post you quoted didnt even have a hint of anger or confrontation in it....

Yeah I thought that basic idea was a mistake too. "I'm not cool enough to own a Mac" ELEVATES Mac to being a superior computer to the consumer. That's how I took it at least. What I got out of the ad was "If I want a 17" screen and crappy hardware, than I can pull that off by getting an HP".
