Screw those tariffs! O2 just lost an upgrade customer here.

I'm now going to enjoy iOS 4 for free until my contract runs out, then move to either Orange or Vodafone who may also be capped, but at least have a decent network to compensate. No way am I signing a 24 month contract simply to get a decent allowance at a reasonable price when I currently get 1GB of mobile broadband from Virgin Mobile for just £5 per month!

Will they send you a micro sim if you say you're going to do that? or will you have to chop the one you've got. I'm thinking about doing that now, the tariffs are a total joke.

If unlimited data ends for everyone in oct 2010, does that mean we all lose it, even on a 30 day simplicity??
I doubt you can chop up your old sim card in order to make it fit, and it's already been said that you will easily be able to get a hold of the micro sim's. The tariffs arn't that bad, to be honest it's just a different wording on the data usage. I maybe wrong but I'm sure it's always been set at 500mb due to the fair usage policy. Anyway if their is any changes during the time of your contract that results in your tariffs/usage going up or down then by law they have to offer you the option to get out of your contract without any penalties or offer you a refund.

Anyway, it's nice to see a fellow Geordie on here :)

Settings>General>Usage. This will give you the LIFETIME data usage of the phone, it's not monthly. It'll probably me much less than you expect!

Well according to my phone I'm using around 1GB per month, and I have wifi switched on all the time for home and work, and spend most of my time away from both of those in 2G land because of O2's crappy network.

Spectacular own goal from o2 here.

I'll just move networks, I'm buying on PAYG anyway but they have just made T-Mob very appealing.

Whats the branding situation on other networks? I hope apple have made it verboten to tarnish it with a logo!

Right under the table of costs... in tiny grey writing....

Unlimited data on all smartphone tariffs is a promotion until 1 October 2010. Excessive usage policy and terms apply, see o2.co.uk.

See my posts above. If you are on an existing expired contract they will let you stay on it for as long as you like. If that includes unlimited data, as mine does, as well as 500 text limit and the old 4x sms for 1x mms, then they cannot change it.

New and upgrading customers will continue to receive unlimited data as a promotion until 1 October. From that date, they will be able to buy additional data Bolt Ons which include 500MB for £5 or 1GB for £10 and O2 will ensure customers have the ability to easily monitor their use by sending them regular text messages.

All O2 customers will continue to receive unlimited Wi-Fi through The Cloud and BT Openzone hotspots.
Existing customers will continue under their present terms, unlimited data usage with an Excessive Use Policy.
Ronan Dunne concluded “By doing this, we are laying the foundation for a sustainable data experience for all customers and the huge possibilities that technology will create over the coming years.”

I hate 24 month contracts too, I simply wont sign one.

I don't so much care about the 24 month contract, if they won't give a 12 month one you may as well get a 24 month one as iphones are updated annually and I'm fine with having a phone last that long.

5 minutes using Sky Mobile TV used 25mb of data, that must be at similar rate as youtube aswell.
Also they've said 97% won't be affected by it, so why do it?

I should perhaps be more concerned about the data, but not impressed that MMS now costs 20p!

You're right!

Sent = 206mb & Received = 1.2gb

That's on a 3g which is 20 months old - I'm astounded

Are you sure that's per month? That's a heck of a lot for a phone, especially if you've got wifi. I've used about 700MB in 12 months!

Everyone is right to be angry with this - if there is only 3% of customers abusing the system target them and not the other 97%.

I am an 02 user and was going to stay but I will definitely look around now - however there is one point that has not been mentioned.

I live in central London and my 3G coverage is SO BAD I never have 3g on. I would struggle to use 5mb the rate pages load when I try to use it so for that reason alone I will be happy to move.

On that point which network has the best 3g service for London? i.e fastest for the new iphone 4

Do you think when they were working out these tariffs they thought "This will make our customers happy" ??

It's a joke.

O2 have the same contract cancellation rights as the customer.

I reset my phone monthly. Since May 20th, I've used 507Mb in total :/

Jeez, that's a lot mate.

I don't use youtube or anything like that but I hammer the hell out of it browsing over 3g - I always have.

I've never looked at those stats before - I assumed I'd be burning a gig a month or so :)
