See my posts above. If you are on an existing expired contract they will let you stay on it for as long as you like. If that includes unlimited data, as mine does, as well as 500 text limit and the old 4x sms for 1x mms, then they cannot change it.

Hmm, it would be handy to see that come directly from o2. Not that I'm doubting you.. for my own peace of mind.

Looks like i'll be buying a PAYG iPhone4 then....and possibly for the rest of my life!

All those people saying you're going to leave O2: do you really think the other operators are going to offer anything different? They're probably all breathing a sigh of relief that O2 have done this.

I doubt you can chop up your old sim card in order to make it fit, and it's already been said that you will easily be able to get a hold of the micro sim's. The tariffs arn't that bad, to be honest it's just a different wording on the data usage. I maybe wrong but I'm sure it's always been set at 500mb due to the fair usage policy. Anyway if their is any changes during the time of your contract that results in your tariffs/usage going up or down then by law they have to offer you the option to get out of your contract without any penalties or offer you a refund.

Anyway, it's nice to see a fellow Geordie on here :)

There's more than one of us!!

Well i'm just thinking its not really in their interest to start providing micro sims to people so that they can stay on a better tariff than they really want to offer - it all comes down to the fact o2 have realised their network isn't up to it and are making us pay for it by capping data. The 2 things that get me are the data cap, i tether my phone (its jailbroken) but I've never had any issues with excessive usage, and the new mms for 20p, I like the current system where they just count for 4 sms under my 1200 texts or whatever meaning my contract is always the same each month. It's a 30 day rolling contract so I'm not too worried about getting out of it, in fact its more that I want to keep it as it is!!!!
Can't really see others offering much better, I fear it'll be as before where everyone offers the same thing, although pre ordering would be nice ( another flaw with o2, it seems they can't handle that either) given I start A levels on monday and haven't really got time to go stand in a shop!

i'm looking forward to seeing what 3 has to offer, as they have now become another supplier of the iphone. i used to be with them and found their 3g coverage excellent. only left to get an iphone.

wonder the price for a 16gb on 24mth contract will be from o2 and 3

think the £45 a month, with 1200 minutes, 750mb data might be sweet spot.
The iphone is a premium product and as early adopters we'll gonna pay. Sure by the winter there'll be better deals but thats the price we pay hey?

I wouldn't be surprised to see all the other mobile carriers doing pretty much the same thing, maybe 3 & Tmobile will have the best deals?

They are clever gits aren't they! For those of us on iPhone simplicity it makes perfect sense to get pay, which means o2 get all their money up front. Well screw you o2 - I'm getting mine direct from apple!

They will be and will probably have the same offers, however others will at least have a better network....

Those commenting that other providers will follow suit with o2's 500mb cap - I doubt it. I mean, offering 1000mb or "unlimited with fair use" is a big selling point, and one that will bring in MANY customers. If only 3% abuse data anyway, then they'll make loads more money than they'll loose from the 3%.

Are you sure that's per month? That's a heck of a lot for a phone, especially if you've got wifi. I've used about 700MB in 12 months!

I was a bit surprised myself, seeing as I don't do Youtube on 3G ever, nor do I use Spotify. But this is what my phone is showing, I've had it since late August last year. Nor is my phone jailbroken, so I'm not doing any naughty stuff.

I do have push email on though. I've no idea why it thinks there is 1KB of tethering usage!

Indeed. Voda and Orange *already* have caps. They're just massively higher for the same price.

Those tariffs are a joke - they've basically moved everything up a price band in an attempt to shove everyone onto 24 month contracts and capped the data.

I'm leaving for Vodafone when my contact expires; don't even care if it's more expensive, I'm just sick of O2.

I second this!! Sick of o2 moving to vodafone!

o2 have already stated that users will be able to transfer their number and tarrif to a new micro sim. Hopfully they will follow through with it.

O2 would argue that they offer unlimited wifi usage.... voda are capped to 1GB.

Edit: FaceTime is wifi only - therfore maybe o2 reckon they've actually got a better deal if you're going to use it.

i wish they would stop assing about and tell us the cost of the phone for upgrading - I need to think about selling my 3G model to raise the cash!

any news of the other tariffs from the other iphone4 providers? think we'll get any info today?
