Dual G4 1Ghz for 3700 bucks starting price???
I just sold my dual G4 450 with 2 yr warranty and monitor, along with 80 gig replacement HD and key/mouse/cables and such for 1750.00. The guy is happy. I'm super happy to be away from Steve Jobs Distortion Field. After 19+ years of it, I finally liberated myself with the help of somebody's pocket book deeper than mine, with a defunct and FREE OS that is actually REALLY nice and fast. I also just got a Dual AMD 1.4 Ghz with 2 x 80 Gig HD Raid, 1 Gig PC2100 DDR, along with Vivo 64 DDR Video card, Silicon/Graphics/Trintron 17" high, and I mean nice, quality display, with 8x switch box and cables, DVD 8x as well as a nice 16x10x40 CDR-W, along with all kinds of great fun stuff to play with, for less than 1000.00. Yep, I had to do a little research, no questions about it. Macs have PCs beat there, Macs are for braindead folks that don't want to learn, they're willing to pay thru the NOSE to SJB and the SJDF for the open the box and run it. I know, I did it for years. I empathise with you idiots that stick to the overpriced Mac hardware. All I can say is thanks for the memories, now I'm free. I'm not a M$ fan by any means, or really a Intel fan. But AMD has both Intel and Moto smoked for price performance (with .13 micron lets hope they break the 2 ghz and lower the temps, they will, it is just a matter of a few months to a year and I will upgrade to a nice small dual package (or maybe quad)).
I hope all you guys spending 3000+ really enjoy the cornholing you get from SJB, he is just about the slickest snake oil sales scammer I have ever witnessed.

Its interesting that everyone has some sort of negative thing to say about this new series of Power Macs, but I doubt most of you have even personally experienced the power of a G3. Maybe you should buy a one of these newer computers and actually experience the true power and glory any of these Macs have to offer before you say its "too slow".

Imac is the best deal? Depends on what you're doing...email and stuff, sure get one. Final Cut, Photoshop, DVD authoring, Aftereffects? Get a tower. Need display options and possible upgrades? Get a tower.

listen up people
All you people out there saying "how great" the upgrades are dont actually need power. iMac a great deal? YOu cant run Maya on an iMac. For peopel that need Maya, FCP, photoshop, after effects, etc. the more power the better. Heres the thing: if there was a faster bus and ddr then i'd agree that its a great deal to get a new tower. since its only a minor upgrade (a new graphics card and extra mem with a small mhz boost) its obviously only to keep us (pro users) happy till the G5 comes out (hopefully MWNY). I know im waiting, you can buy now if you want, I'll have a machine thats a whole lot faster in a half year.

They ask fo your school and ID number, and verify it with the school. There's also a limit of one machine per year, so you can bet that they keep track of who you are.

I concur dude. Its what ive been saying for ages now, but all of you are too dumb to realise that there is no reason to winge. I give up trying to teach you lot something about computing.
And to the guy who bought a dual athlon. Yes you got a great system for great value. But stop accusing others of being closed minded and start to realise that computing isnt all about value for money and speed.
If you actually knew anything at all about computers then you would know that windows has crap coding, it still has bugs in XP, it isnt nearly as efficient when it comes to DP support.
Also you should know that no-matter how good your hardware is, if your software is crap then your system is crap.
Also realise that you are investing in a computer whos price will plummet the moment you buy it, unlike a mac.
Also realise that you are investing in a system with ancient architecture, so when you want to go 64bit (you will because you are a fool), then you will have to pay out **** knows how much more money again.
Also realise that the future when it comes to architecture is in OSX and PPC chips, it is simpler in design and principle and it doesnt have the problem of being compatible with an ancient architecture.
Also realise your PC is nearly as ugly as you are.
Also realise your PC either:
a) overheats.
b) makes the noise of a jumbo jet taking off.
The athlon chip produces enough heat as it is, never mind in a dual config. So it is likely your PC is cooking.
Also realise that depending on what OS you use, your PC is likely to crash. Pre-2000 Windows doesnt enjoy Multi processing.
Adding things up, you got the wrong computer, you are a fool. You know nothing about computing, go back to school and stop wanking oper your pair of fat Athlons.
Out of that whole thread you only got one thing right, The athlon is the best chip out there.

If you really know what you are doing when configuring a DP PC box, then it should be bearable.
But most people dont, and why do that when you could buy a mac and let apple do it for you?

i have heard some people putting in a low-profile 256 RAM module making this rev. a book go to 288 MB RAM, but i was wondering if you think it would be worth my while to try and get this 256 stick and try to run os 10.1 on the laptop?
should i just make it a convenient excuse for my wife to get one of those new g4s or g4 imacs?
being thrifty, i wouldn't mind finding an old style g3 imac and just upping the RAM to half a gig and making that machine go for two or even three years...no need for a dual 1 ghz tower in our household

Hard to say though when i dont know your financial status.
I wouldnt buy a G4 imac just yet, im a bit wary of a firewire2 update and wireless peripheral update to it. Maybe thats paranoia on my part.
Otherwise if your a willing ebayer, check the prices of a cube with TFT. I dont know the prices so its just an idea.
