New Retina MacBook Appears in Early Unboxing Video

funny to see that some people know how fast or slow this new Macbook will be without even testing or actual reviews available.

I am gonna buy this new Macbook, will put on my workload on, like with my current MacBook Pro Retina late 2013.
Gonna do this for about 12-13 days...When not satisfied, bring it back to my local Apple Store and get the full refund, like I did in the past with my Mac´s

I am a moderate user and work almost wireless and dont need more ports then a power port

I think THE best review is your own review with your own workload

I've seen some predictions based on, for example, looking at the Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro CPU benchmarks. They seem to indicate pretty respectable performance, and would be an improvement if you're coming from a sufficiently old machine. I'd guess that if you came from a machine that doesn't have PCIe flash you'd see a considerable difference as well. It's possible to make some kind of ballpark prediction with what we know. I predict the new MacBook would handily beat my max-spec early 2009 17" MBP w/ SSD installed.

However, things like the keyboard I don't know if you can judge until you've had a chance to type on it (my benchmark for this is to play TypeRacer.com).

I hope the "enter" button is a fluke. If the skylake macbook pros is having this layout, it is close to a deal breaker for me. Enter is always two rows (for a Danish keyboard, don't know if US is different).

I have no problem dumping old stuff. I thought Apples support of Mini DP was great, thunderbolt was great (not the display).

Every USB Type C adapter for the macbook will require a Power passthrough, that is the problem. No way to connect a usb C device and have power connected to the device at the same time. I do not even think the $80 adapter would allow a USB C hardrive to be connected to the Macbook with power at the same time.

I make a weekly clone of my hard drive. If I use a USB C drive I will need to get even more adapters as the 80$ USB C adapter will not let me have the power connected.

Edit - disregard, was thinking USB A not USB C.

I have been assuming that the $80 dongle will permit that - if it doesn't, something's badly engineered, no? Not saying you're wrong, but I do assume you're wrong and wondering why you think that won't work?

US is always 1 row. I find it ghastly when some foreign keyboards have the 80s style 2 row enter key. It's old fashioned, and waste of space.

the current adapter Apple is selling contains 3 ports.

1x USB-C, 1x USB-A, 1x HDMI (or VGA available)

the problem arises if you wish to plug in a USB-C device, while charging your laptop, it is currently impossible. with one single USB-C port, you have to make the choice of either charging, or using the port for other things.

There are no current peripherals that will supply power to USB-C other than the included charger. There is no current way of having 2 or more USB-C devices plugged in at the same time.

Should be easy for Apple to figure out...

The serial number is clear: C02P7085GHV2. Checking the Apple support site it appears the unit was "sold" in late February with support through May 28. Interesting.

It should be easy for Apple to track this down.

Absolutely right, I was thinking USB A. I guess I need to be hauled back to the re-education camp. :( ;)

if you're pluggin in USB-A, you should be fine with a hub attached to the USB-c adapter. So you will need 2 devices to do such. the USB-C to USB-A adapter, then if you want more than 1 device, a USB hub.

I'm trying to see if there are any USB-C hubs yet, but haven't found any.

Nevemind I read your post above

What do you mean by a ripped cable?

ripped out or yanked sorry.

Never tried it myself, that's what photo stream is for.

Indirectly, that's been doable for several years now (Photo Stream).

But that's not direct syncing between an iOS device and iPhoto/Aperture, it requires an Internet connection and iCloud.

Personally, I like it. Anytime my phone hops on a Wi-Fi network, it will upload any new pictures I've taken. Sort of like automatically backing them up as it goes. I open iPhoto/Aperture once or twice a month, and all of the new photos automatically download into it.

i hardly ever use iphoto so im not up to date but it gets imported in full quality?

Other than not being a Windows logo, that chrome Apple logo looks a lot like the chrome logo on the new Surface. ;)

And will that hub support power going every which way. Most USB hubs I have ever used have been a bag of hurt when power is involved. My display will not charge my phone from the built in USB Hub.

The 80$ Apple adapter is already useless and would have been better if it had 2 USB C and 1 MINI DP, with this configuration I can still use all my existing MDP cables, and connect the other USB C cable to a hub or dock.

When you get your USB C monitor, then buy a USB C laptop. It's not only Apple that's going this route, but it is only Apple that's going to have people whining before they figure it all out - as usual.

Do you ever stop think about how Apple's own employees feel about the corporate decisions? I do. Many times I often wonder if the employees like everything the company does. Although the new Macbook looks nice I'll bet many employees are not buying one based on the single USB-C connector. If being inconvenienced is the next generation then you've just given "innovation" a new meaning.

Wow that looks cheap, not like a $1300 Macbook. I need a laptop and already returned the new rMBP 13 because of the awful GPU performance, there is no rMBP 15 update for a good 6 months and this looks like a toy. Guess I'll be buying a new Windows laptop for the first time in nearly 10 years. Need to get your ***** together Apple.

Vietnamese guy here, been lurking around here for quite long but today I finally registered an account to post this: The reviewer says (translated from the text): "The feel of the keyboard is not comparable with that of current MacBooks. The slimness has compromised the feel of the keyboard. It's very, very shallow, (OP: yes, he used very twice) and I suspect it will be very unpleasant to use for a few hours straight." So yeah. If you want additional translation let me know.

I had two criteria for this laptop:

1) The useable screen space is not to compromised compared with a 13" air.
2) They keyboard is not compromised with the air or 13" rMBP.

Seems 2 knocks this machine out...

As far as the single USB port, I'd be surprised if there where not chargers coming out with power and a usb hub built in almost the same size as the apple charger.

That 1st image shows the problem with the "full size" keyboard, you can not hold the MacBook with 1 hand without making such an effort.

Thank You. Not sure why everyone(especially people carrying around 15" rMBP when they wouldnt buy a MB anyway, ports or not) is butt hurt over the new MB. Apple still sells the MBA, rMBP, and even still sells the 13" cMBP. Just don't buy it.

Exactly. With some of the comments here you'd think Apple replaced their entire notebook line with this machine. If price matters most to you get a MBA. If you need lots of ports and MagSafe get a rMBP.

The only think I do not like about the keyboard on the MB is the same reason I do not like the keyboard on the 11" air, it's kinda weird IMO when the keyboard is wider than the display. The 13" and the pros look balanced with the display being wider.

It is legit though, that's what it looks like.

I personally agree with you all on the form of the MacBook. Thinness aside, I really think it looks horrible. Though in saying that, I also thought the 12" PowerBook looked horrible, while most people disagreed with me.

Nonetheless I think we can all agree on one thing - ditching MagSafe for one 'does all' port, just to get it as thin as possible, is a dreadful idea - and a classic example of Apple's form over function.

There are some really great things about this computer. But to me it feels more like an engineering exercise, in that 'hey, we can do this', rather than the 'this is the future of notebooks' feeling that I got when the MacBook Air was first revealed.

I'm sure time will prove me wrong. Though I hope they'll keep MagSafe.

What was so horrible about the PowerBook 12", and the new MacBook 12"? Full-sized keyboard, full-sized trackpad.

Thoughts on the MBA 11"?

This would be great for someone looking to step up from an iPad for productivity, but with only one port, it definitely is not for typical users. Maybe just for people who surf the internet but want a full OS. But, then again, maybe that is typical!

That is typical... This computer is for 98% of people that do no real productivity on their computers... How do people not get that?

What are you even talking about? Effort?

It's a computer for the 98% of the world that don't use their computers for much productivity. For the minority which you are a part of, there is the MacBook Pro.

Goodness...

I understand Vietnamese.

I love the NO ENTRY logo that pops up... (Winks)

The keyboard is dreadful, it looks no different than all the other PC style keyboards out there for especially the Windows thingy with the stand that pops out of the back? Those dinky keyboards with the over sized keys for toddlers learning to type for the first time.

What a way to ruin the elegant factor Apple, geeeezzzzz! Those fat arrow keys are a tremendous eye sore - tremendous eye sore.
