Still waiting for a major feature that would make me upgrade.

With the amount of camera gear I have, 4 lenses would not entice me.

iPhone SE looks better as the iPhone 7 rumours come in.

You know, if the iPhone 7 will miss vital features like a headphone jack, it'll be a total catastrophe.

If Apple does this, EVERYONE around them will do the same. And the problem is, it's not like DVDs which can be easily converted to digital-only media and which are really bulky. This is something that not only doesn't have an alternative (using lightning is NOT a good solution, bluetooth is a pain in the ****ing ass to set up, and there is no universal connector), but it causes absolutely no problem, it's just small enough to fit even on the thinnest devices.

And now, it seems like Apple isn't going to even introduce something to make up for it, it'll be horrible. If the iPhone 7 will not have a headphone jack and nothing to compensate, I'll be ****ing mad at Apple. Not that I already am.

did the awful back camera bump just get bigger ? Tim Kardashian if this is true please fire Jony Ive

Their plans for the 2017 iPhone have already been revealed, supply chains read Apple like a book these days... Why even bother with this years model? I'm hoping they cancel it entirely and put out the 2017 phone in 2016.

I just can't fathom that they'd release the same horrid design of the 6 / 6S for a third year just because they can't bring OLED displays and a new design up to speed a year sooner.

Honestly, not a big concern. I've never had any interest typing anything but short texts, tweets, and email on my phone. Hooking up a keyboard never entered in my mind. It seems like a torture method akin to having to write "I will not pass notes in class" on the chalkboard 100 times during recess on a perfect spring day with the windows open and everyone outside playing in ear shot.

Keyboard would be the least of it. Top 3 uses of it would be:

Charging through a magnetic inductive charger.
Charging a battery pack, much slimmer and ergonomic without having to attached to the Lightning port.
Passing digital audio into a case with a built-in 3.5mm jack.

Apple have been testing multiple models of the iPhone 7, the phone in the main picture is probably real but they've now decided not to include it as it doesn't have that many advantages right now.

Or it could be the battery case after their debacle with the camel hump

A fair amount of battery cases link through Lightning but offer a USB connector themselves. Pairing the rumored ejection of the 3.5mm headphone jack rumor(?) with this one and all that gets complicated without an alternative way to power the phone. OR, the third party battery case makers have to further embrace Lightning. I wonder if there is an up-to double licensing fee if, instead of USB, they have to have Lightning for their case now? Why? If headphones must connect via Lightning, such battery cases would probably need Lightning pass through instead of USB. Else, users would have to be putting the phone in and out of the case when they want to listen to music.

Anybody know if the licensing would be more for this?

A Smart Connector has been one of the features rumored for the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, but a new report from Japanese site Mac Otakara suggests Apple has decided not to include a Smart Connector on the upcoming devices.

The Smart Connector, first introduced with the iPad Pro, is a new type of port designed to transfer both data and power between the iPad Pro and accessories like the Smart Keyboard. It's never been clear what purpose a Smart Connector would serve on an iPhone, but speculation ranged from battery cases to wireless charging.

Hints that a Smart Connector would be included on the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus first surfaced in an image said to be of the iPhone 7 Plus shared by a Chinese website in March. It is still not clear whether that image depicts an actual iPhone 7 device, a mockup based on design schematics, or a counterfeit device. A Smart Connector was also depicted in design drawings created by Mac Fan, but those drawings are often largely based on circulating rumors.

Mac Otakara suggests Apple decided to shelve the Smart Connector after considering it as an included feature, but given the questionable nature of the original rumor, it's possible a Smart Connector was never planned for the device. Rumors about the iPhone 7 are still uncertain with a lot of conflicting information surfacing, so the final design and features of the device continue to be up in the air.

Rumors have disagreed on features like waterproofing, the removal of the headphone jack, the thickness of the iPhone 7, stereo speakers, whether the camera will protrude, and more, but it's likely a clearer picture of the iPhone 7 will emerge in the months leading up to its prospective fall release.

It's of no importance. This thing is just too damn big. Not thin, just too big.

But it WILL have something to make up for it. It will be "thinner."

And with "the same great battery life."

Both are paramount concerns from us consumers. Haven't you seen thread after thread filled with gripes about how the current models are too thick? And battery life is perfect? And all of us really do want to buy new headphones with a proprietary jack and/or lug around adapters to make current headphones work with both iDevices and even Macs?

Why do any of us want or need anything more? ;)

As others stated, this is not a big concern. Whatever they decide to do, I'll gladly trade in my 6+ for it

What if it's your 6+ rebranded as a 7? Will changing the number on the box be worth the upgrade charge? Some are getting worried that there's not too much happening... even thinking that this might not deserve a number change (either).

It is getting pretty late in rumor season to know so little that seems like tangible change. About a month or so from now, whatever this thing will be will probably need to be going into production. And that would mean whatever it is going to be is already locked down. Yet the biggest rumors seem to still be 2 camera lenses and maybe the ejection of a maximum ubiquity, "just works" (EVERYWHERE) audio jack to be replaced by a proprietary one that will probably almost require adapters (even if it's just to use headphones we have with both Apple iDevices AND Apple Macs).

I never really saw the point of it, but at this rate the next iPhone sounds really underwhelming.

I have been holding off for a iPhone 6s plus because of the excitement of the latest iPhone(7). Now that all these rumors are out for the iPhone 7 its seem this model to act as an "S series". Clearly the redesign going to take place on the iPhone 8.

***Thanks Apple***

If a smart connector could be used for a battery case, you wouldn't need a port on the case. You would simply use the Lightning port on the phone, and power would be passed to and from the case through the smart connector.

1) Why is Lightning not a good solution?
2) Why do you think they won't or can't make BT easier to set up?
3) Why couldn't they introduce an even better wireless standard, backward compatible with BT?
4) Why do you need a universal connector now, when it will be years before every device would be compatible with one?

Not really following you. You're saying if the Smart Connector doesn't happen, then cases will have to offer Lightning pass-through instead of USB to accommodate Lightning audio? If that's what you're saying then you are correct. Apple's current MFi program limits Lightning licensors to only one Lightning connector per device. That's why many of those case makers don't offer Lightning passthrough. Presumably if Apple moves to Lightning audio, they will change the MFi terms to allow more than one Lightning connecter per device.

It's safe to assume that as long as Jon Ive and Timothy Cook are in charge of Apple's design, I will not longer buy an iPhone until they're gone. Apple should pay one of the other companies to do their designing---that iPhone is hideous.

So is the only real change in the 7 going to be (maybe) (somewhat) waterproof like the Watch?

At some point, plugging in just about anything, be it a headphone jack or a power plug, is going to be a thing of the past.

I would love to have the iPhone and iPad charge either wirelessly or via a Smart Connector / MagSafe like magnetic connector. That alone would be a reason I would upgrade. The Smart Connector certainly seems like a step in the right direction, but going fully wireless (not on a charging pad) would be preferable.
