They are for switchers from Android phones who think they need a stylus. They never use it, but they want to buy one with their phone. It's like antivirus software for the Mac. You don't need it, but some people want to buy it.

Yes, you really seem worked up.

Myself, I just enjoy watching a trainwreck sometimes. Like the trainwreck that is Samsung advertising. It's so bad, it's funny. Like that creepy stalker watch ad which is just unbeatable.

Not worked up at all  You're one using words like "nasty" and "Samsung actually spent money to convince people what kind of ***holes they are"

That comes off as emotionally invested to me :)

And no - wishful thinking if you think the thousands upon thousands of stylus that have been sold to Apple customers is because they switched from Android. Seriously. That's just obtuse.

Seriously, Apple needs to step it up here, I'm willingly watching their marketing, at least make it comfortable and easy!
Glassed Silver:mac
Yeah, I was pretty disappointed. I waited months to watch that stream and then...EPIC fail. I think it hurt people's first impression of the watch. Getting short updates from MR or Apple didn't do it justice. I went back later to see the demo and was highly impressed.

----------

Also, I was hoping there was going to be a Chinese lady talking over them.

That was so annoying! I was ready to turn it off...but that decision was made for me

Here is the problem with Samsung's strategy: Apple isn't in the business of providing live event streaming services. What happened is totally irrelevant to Apple's or Samsung's customers.

So what we have is nothing but a display of Schadenfreude, which ultimately reflects badly only on the one displaying it - Samsung.

Well, no. It clearly demonstrates that "good humor" is something hat Samsung lacks deeply.

Well humor is subjective I guess? But I have to tell you, I loved their Wall Hugger's commercial and I have a huge stash of Apple products and ONE Samsung TV(which is great btw).

The live stream was awful. Shouldn't have happened.

However, Samsung's advert shows Samsung as a nasty, vindictive company. And that was an intentional action of Samsung. This wasn't a mistake that someone made. This happened with full knowledge of their top management. Samsung actually spent money to convince people what kind of ***holes they are.
This.

The Mac vs PC ads poked fun at PC in general. They were never hostile towards the user. These are flat out attacks on people's character.

All Samsung is doing is making fun of people's allegiance to Apple. Basically what they're saying is "Don't want to be a fanboy? Use our product." Funny, because it seems like every Apple review that comes out, the Android fanboys come out of the woodwork. I personally don't go on Android forums and trash Android users but apparently they see it as you must worship Steve Jobs and Johnny Ive if you want to use an iPhone. Who's the designer at Samsung again?

Apple's current ads hit the mark. They actually show people using the product in different ways (a powerful form of social proof).

Samsung only wishes they could get the same level of hype around their products. We all know why Apple is popular but they still haven't figured it out yet without bashing, stealing, or copying.

Have any Samsung users in this thread just flat out said "you mad, bro?" yet? Or are they still pretending they're amused

come on folks these Samsung adds poking fun at apple are funny. They are in the exact same vein as the MAC versus PC adds that apple was so successful with a few years ago. Lighten up. If its good for the goose....

There's going to be a large segment of the public who have no idea what this commercial is about. They aren't technology geeks who watch announcement streams, they just buy the products. Waste of money for Samsung, IMHO, because it misses the target

Gnasher, buddy, you're pulling our legs, right? :)

I know you're not THAT crazy, to believe that all the types of stylus for iOS devices only exist for previous Android owners!

Especially since they predate Android devices.

Further - the reason Jobs was so anti stylus was to differentiate the iPhone from its competitors and to work on convincing those that enjoyed keyboards at the time that they didn't need them. That a touch interface could/would be better if they tried it. Because - you know - the best stylus in the world is the one you already have.

He and his marketing team have always been great wordsmiths.

I honestly have no problem with commercials from competitors as long as they are truthful and tasteful. These are truthful, however they have no taste. The "comedy" in the commercials is horribly dry and stale. The only line I chuckled at was the one about the "one with the nicks" regarding the phones charging.

One thing I guess Samsung finally learned was not to attack the people they are trying to attract (Apple users). Those particular ads I think did no good for Samsung, namely the ones regarding Apple users in line.

In my eyes, every thing is an advancement of something that came before it. Smartphones were born in the late 1990's IIRC when the PDA craze was still going on. People wanted to carry one device. So they merged them.

Personally, I like Android. Vanilla Android that is. I don't care much for skins, but Samsung's TouchWiz is perhaps the worst. Plus the build quality of all their products have gone down considerably. For instance, I have a friend who got their house redone in Samsung appliances back in 2007, so 7 years ago and they are all still going and haven't had an issue. I purhased a matching set of Samsung washer and dryer (gas) in 2011. The washer has required two repairs since then, one because the tub bearing was thrown out and the other because the main control board died. The dryer no longer drys all the time, and it is a hit and miss if its going to work. Waiting for Lowes to send someone out to repair it. Both of these appliances have left a bad taste in my throat regarding Samsung.

Samsung should be the LAST person to talk about someone's keynote. Theirs are TERRIBLE. The note 4 keynote was terrible and that was just last week.

These commercials are sort of funny, but unnecessary.

Technically, Apple's live streams are normally perfect, but this time they added a new feature, otherwise known as the live blog. It was on the same page as the live stream and due to the way it works, it forced the page to fetch new data constantly. So in the end, bad JSON coding actually caused the problems. I watched it on an Apple TV and it was perfectly fine.

It wasn't the live blog. I watched on an :apple:TV as well and had the chinese translator over the top, constant drop outs, intermittent "bars," two music tracks, the whole lot...

It was really bad....

On a side note, Quicktime Plugin doesn't work in any of my Windows browsers - several reinstalls, etc... is Apple the only company left using Quicktime to show videos on their website?

I want to watch their marketing but they won't let me...

I used different palm pilots for years with a stylus. The problem was and is that you have have the stylus to even use it, and it is a pain to constantly pull it in and out of it's holder. Jobs wanted to make sure everybody knew Apple's new product was not just a bigger and better palm pilot. Having no stylus at all was the master stroke. ;)

Basically in line with what I was saying.

But like I said - it wasn't that Jobs "hated" the stylus. He positioned his product against all the others. It's smart marketing.

He didn't think people read books until the iPad came out and then the iBookstore opened up :)

I've noticed this phenomenon at work the last few days - a bunch of guys I work with have all started viciously trashing Apple, and they're all Android users (mostly Samsung). It's really bizarre. One of them recently switched in the last year, too. I don't care when people start pointing out differences reasonably, but there's a difference between 'hey, this phone has _____' and 'OMG HAHAHAHA WELCOME TO 2012 SILLY ISHEEP'. The first is valid, the second is just obnoxious. Why do they care what phone I use? I don't care what they use.

I find the same thing with Samsung's ads. Obnoxious, point in people's face and laugh. I'm sure it works on some but it definitely doesn't work on me, especially considering the great work HTC, Moto and LG are doing. If I was going to switch (and I've considered it in the past), it would never, *ever* be to Samsung.

lol

oh man, these are great...

We do say that don't we on a larger screen...

Well done Samsung, for the comedy.. and the effort..

Now, get back to work to lazy bastards.

...I would categorize them as evil. All they EVER do is steal and then tie it up in the courts till nobody cares anymore. NO R&D budget - no innovation. Just theft. From one of the world's LARGEST corporations.

And it's NOT just Apple products...why do you think they have the most popular monitors on earth? They used to make 'parts' for Sony, and Panasonic, and stole their technology. Why are their cameras so good? Ask Pentax and Nikon. Their washers? Ask Miele and Bosch. Their vacuums? Ask Dyson. The list of companies suing this company goes on and on.

I won't buy ANYTHING from them. A horrible way to do business. And now their making FUN of Apple? Mind boggling. They should be sending them royalties. Oh, yeah, they are; they got hit with the biggest fine in the history of fines in the Apple vs. Samsung lawsuit, which, of course, they're appealing.

A disgusting, evil company. The worst. And their products suck. My ex's mom has a washer dryer combo by them - nothing but trouble. The repairman says they are junk, and she should buy a Kenmore, and LG, or just about ANYTHING else. And everyone I know who has a Samsung phone soon lusts after an iPhone.

Cheers,
Cameron

Apple products contain Samsung parts. Just sayin'.

First - I want what you're smoking if you believe that Samsung's R&D budget is nothing. It's more than Apple's. Further - when it comes to the iPhone, at least originally, Apple benefited from what everyone in the industry had done before in R&D and barely had to spend a dime (relatively) compared to the millions and millions that were spent by Samsung, Nokia, Motorola, and others.

No innovation is a funny comment.

PS - I have a Samsung phone now - I love the bigger screen and have because at the time - a 3.5" screen wasn't doing it for me anymore. Nor was a 4". I don't lust after the iPhone. It's a great phone. So's my S4.

But your "rage" is really amusing. You've really taken this whole portable electronic device (an OBJECT) and grown quite the emotional attachment to it and the company that makes it to be so emphatic.

Yes only a year late to the party and tell me how many phones are going to run it in 64bit. The nexus to my knowledge is the only one rumored to maybe support it and not any Samsung phones. Correct me if I am wrong.

I guess I look at it this way. I'm not running 64 bit on my phone it runs perfectly fine for my needs. Would I like it to run at 64 bit? Sure but not sure I would even notice much for my use.

I'm also not a big samsung or any skinned phone fan. Phone makers skins sometimes have a couple of cool features but not worth the bloat and usually less attractive UI then pure android.

For me its Nexus or iphone and maybe LG and Sony can be distant runners up.

Biggest problem with the iphone is price. In Canada providers either tag on money to your bill for the 24 month contract or even worse force you to change your plan to a minimum "in-market" plan which I'm hearing is $80 a month which would cost me $30 more a month and reduce my data from 5 gigs a month to 500mb. No thanks. It would be less expensive to buy outright with that size data plan @ $50 a month. I need at least 32GB storage and since apple only started at 16GB my cheapest option iphone wise is $859, $970 w tax vs $430 with tax for a very capable nexus 5.

Long story short the lack of subsidization from canadian mobile providers makes it hard to justify buying an iphone because I'm not ballin' with the $.

I also think L looks very pleasing aesthetically. I haven't installed the beta so I can't speak to how it functionally.

I would go Nexus too I think - but what has kept me (S2 Skyrocket to S4) is Samsung's camera and app. While I don't love all of Samsung's skin - their camera software and hardware is great. And having just come from from Vegas where I was taking some pictures in one of the clubs with both the iPhone and S4 - I can say easily that the quality of the photos from the Samsung are far superior than the iPhone. And I didn't use a flash on either.

The iPhone still has an amazing camera. And definitely better than many phones. Just not all phones. I'm not at all tempted by a Window's phone - but the Nokia makes one helluva camera on a phone.

Interesting. While I've heard Samsung has a decent camera I've always thought it was the iPhone and Nokia that battled it out for best camera. To be honest all smartphone cameras have come a long way seem to have made the small point and shoot cameras redundant.
