Samsung is copying the "I'm A PC, I'm a Mac" campaign. But to make this work, you need two things: a killer service that isn't well-known, and a disgruntled community of users of your opponent's service. Apple fans are fiercely loyal, so you won't be winning them by mocking them or disparaging Apple.

First focus on making everyone see how good your stuff is. When Apple fans are revolting en-masse you may finally be able to mock Apple and get away with it. At this stage, you're just pissing them off.

If I personally went for another Android device, it'll be stock Google or Sony, or maybe even HTC. Samsung will not be getting money from me soon.

There are some here that argue that all the apple bashing ads are aimed at those who are on the fence and they're not looking to convert users.

Seems silly to spend billions on a campaign that is aimed at fence sitters but Samsung has never been accused of being smart.

So predictable

Samsung does this every year and every year it gets the same response.

This advertising works well for samsung which is why they do it.

How many times have apple fanboys made long threads over LG ads, HTC ads, Sony ads etc? I can't think of any.

The whole purpose of these ads is for you guys to do what you are doing; talking about samsung.

Noone is talking about HTC, LG, Sony etc and thats how they like it.

Next up, will be normal adverts about the products (as usual) which will be slick and polished and will have everyone's attention, including apple users.

Because Apple users are often their own worst enemy. Despite many thinking that this is a circle jerk, in fact, many apple users find these ads amusing and also informative and will watch with interest the follow up ads which will go into more detail on various products.

Some will be persuaded to switch. Thats how it works. Its how samsung is as big as they are. Its proven to work.

Whining about it it kind of pointless and just fooling yourselves. Its an effective stratergy.

no on both... and have been trying for the past couple of minutes to get the memory issue.. can't recreate it for some reason.

What's on your iPad? Is it full?

Mine has a few thousand photos, few thousand songs and a few films, the rest is filled with apps. I found closing heavy apps (like iPhoto, Safari) helps.

Please explain how getting people to get upset, offended and laughing at your commercials is an effective strategy?

I can't think of one marketing campaign who's end goal is to be made fun of. As already mentioned, it's not just macrumors members making fun of samsung, it's tech blogs and android centric sites themselves!

Clearly it's not an effective strategy since Samsung sales and profits have been down for consecutive qtrs. They need something new.

It's a well known fact that if you have to resort to attack ads, you've lost the battle. Apple's "I'm a PC" used humor to point out the superiority of Mac, and without insulting PC users. Samsung, in its many other commercials, insults those very customers it is trying to woo - Apple customers. Now, they are attacking Apple's live stream but most people in the world had no idea there was a stream or what a stream is.

I think that's absolutely true regarding attack ads. And I would say that when the Apple vs PC ads came out, Apple indeed had also lost the battle. I think most of the lights were off at Apple by that time. I remember trying to get developer support for Quicktime around that time and was directed to a call center in Waco, Texas.

Definitely on life-support at that time. What a turnaround for Apple- all thanks to an MP3 player!

I wonder what is the most watched stream in the world?

Could it be this event?

I know far to little about this sort of tech.

But I would not be surprised if events like this push the "internets" infrastructure to its limits. Or is it simply a case of Apple not having a clue about these sort of events and what sort of hardware is needed? I would be rather surprised if the later would be the case, but it very well might be i guess.

Becasue not everyone is invested in a product to get 'upset'. Thats ridiculous. Macrumors, tech blogs etc isn't the be all and end all of apple and android users. Its a tiny percentage of them. Or 'nerds'. Most people are simply users of a product and don't take it personally.

Beyond lame...

Lamest company ever and lamest android phones ever

...I would categorize them as evil. All they EVER do is steal and then tie it up in the courts till nobody cares anymore. NO R&D budget - no innovation. Just theft. From one of the world's LARGEST corporations.

And it's NOT just Apple products...why do you think they have the most popular monitors on earth? They used to make 'parts' for Sony, and Panasonic, and stole their technology. Why are their cameras so good? Ask Pentax and Nikon. Their washers? Ask Miele and Bosch. Their vacuums? Ask Dyson. The list of companies suing this company goes on and on.

I won't buy ANYTHING from them. A horrible way to do business. And now their making FUN of Apple? Mind boggling. They should be sending them royalties. Oh, yeah, they are; they got hit with the biggest fine in the history of fines in the Apple vs. Samsung lawsuit, which, of course, they're appealing.

A disgusting, evil company. The worst. And their products suck. My ex's mom has a washer dryer combo by them - nothing but trouble. The repairman says they are junk, and she should buy a Kenmore, and LG, or just about ANYTHING else. And everyone I know who has a Samsung phone soon lusts after an iPhone.

Cheers,
Cameron

Hey Samsung, remember this?
I thought that add was ridiculous and great haha I personally think the samsung ads are entertaining and funny. NOW would I switch? NO, I think Apple waits and makes sure things work as best as possible in their devices instead of rushing to market and running with a "we did it first campaign" like samsung.
To sum it up, I love samsung adds, they are cleaver and funny and pass my time till my preorder of the iPhone tonight.

I like Android, but I've never picked up a Samsung device that I like. They lard Android up with a gaudy skin and hideous functional mods. Their tablets and phones that I've held feel cheap and plasticky.

What Samsung excells at is the specs game. They load up the latest tech into their devices and it sells. I do sometimes wish Apple was a bit more concerned about keeping current with tech.

If I didn't know any better it sounds like you're on Samsung's side. I have to disagree, I have learned nothing from these ads other than understanding a desperate company (Samsung) when I see one. None of their ads make me feel like saying, "Well let me check out what Samsung offers" and getting people to talk about Samsung doesn't get them business.
It has to at least be something good about Samsung. Say for example if they found a way to make calls on their cell phone's anywhere no matter the location without using any cell service or wifi. THAT would be something to talk about and that would attract customers to check out if Samsung was being authentic or not.

These ads are downright insulting. I felt terribly offended that they would make fun of Apple's customers standing in line to buy the next iPhone. Well Samsung is just upset because nobody is standing in line for their phones. Just the fact they would make fun of Apple customers (while I don't stand in the lines but I am an iPhone user) makes me dislike Samsung much more.

Samsung! Show me the greatness of your product and don't insult me as a customer or you will never get my money.

Did you read the rest of my post? It's not just macrumor members, it's tech blogs and android centric sites who make fun of them.

Also their sales have been declining I think the past four qtrs as well as their profits.

Wholly ineffective campaign.

So I'll say again, I'm dissapointed Apple didn't see the potential in NFC sooner. And now that they finally have, what they've done is pretty much exactly what the rest of the industry have done, nothing different. Just late.

They may have, but still chose to go a different route. Once the market didn't grow as quickly as they'd like, they had no choice BUT to go NFC. Same with USB vs Fire Wire (ieee1394), or Bluray vs HDDVD and more recently, thunderbolt vs usb3. Bluetooth 4 seemed, and may be, a better solution than NFC but I think they accepted long ago that fighting and fighting a losing battle may not be the best solution.

If there is one thing that most people can't deny about Apple, even the haters, is that once they get on board with something, the market does seem to adapt quicker. maybe they do it better, more complete, or maybe its just perception. but I think we'll definitely see NFC take off much quicker now (smart watches as well).

Also, I don't think what they've done is "exactly" what the rest of the industry has done. I don't know the specifics of the others, but it seems that what has been done is include NFC as payment option in the phone, and leave the rest to the merchants to sort out. Kind of a "build it and they will follow" but they been reluctant to follow.

Apple is bringing in merchants (other than mcDonalds, CVS and 7-11), banks, bringing education and awareness, and more importantly, they are working deals with credit card companies. If they can strike deals with say Chase and Amex, being exclusive on Apple devices, those companies can then add incentives to retailers to upgrade their terminals. Drop a 1/2% in fee for any "Chase NFC" transaction. A company like Apple could pull this off.

Wasn't Apple hardware/software required to watch the stream? Poor guys at Samsung ;D

Well there is over $5k of Apple hardware in their recent web ads (just scattered around the room), so they could just be using the hardware they purchased / rented as props before they return (or disassemble it). ;) .

Well played Samsung. Apple deserves the gutcheck after yesterdays live stream performance.

Apple simply could have decided not to allow streaming. People tend to forget that. Then again when Netflix has streaming issues people hit the roof. Guess a company that doesn't focus streaming can't have the same issues of one that does.

I have the Ipad 2(the original one not the revamped one) and almost full - i have about 1 GB left of space .. movies and tv shows, couple of albums and the rest are apps ... seriously i have to still experience what you're experiencing... aside from my battery draining quickly because of heavy use.

I'll say this as an apple fan: samsung isn't that far off the truth anymore. Sad to admit. also the watch is ugly. the day has come where i like a motorola product better than an apple product. and although the moto 360 sucks, the design is hands down more beautiful than apples'.
