These ads really aren’t meant for iPhone users - they’re preaching to the converted by highlighting perceived flaws in the competition. Very little of the Samsung phone is shown. It’s a good strategy.

Also, the Mac vs PC ads weren't really about the users, they were about the experience. They weren't telling people "hey you are stupid if you are a windows user", they were telling them "hey look how much more fun you can have if you used a Mac instead, and we also have these cool, hip productivity apps yo".

You may want to rewatch some of them . They painted the PC users.....well just like the PC character depicted in them. These Samsung ads are soooo mild compared to the PC v Mac campaign. It was never about "apps", it was poor PC user experience and how you were boring and Dull if you were a "businesss" overweight PC user..... PC users copped it.
[doublepost=1509949985][/doublepost]The problem is that Samsung is copying what Apple did with ads in the past. Sucks to be on the receiving end eh?

Question to people, had Apple still been way ahead of the pack, could they make these ads? Sadly there is some truth in these.... 4 years of the iPhone 6 design has not helped

Well done ad. Although I can’t believe Samsung spends so much money making fun of and insulting potential customers it then asks to switch.

I think it’s more of the people who haven’t chosen a side, or might be considering leaving. They want to build the brand loyalty that Apple is known for, I don’t think the realistically believe they will get droves to switch.

they didn't... they showed the iPhone X ad at the end but.. never mentioned "notch" ... i think some X users are a bit touch about the notch... lol. if all apps would hurry up and update for it, the notch would never be spoken of again.
Yeah they did. One of the guys waiting in line outside the Apple Store has a notch-shaped haircut.

Didn’t Samsung get rid of the headphone jack as well? Won’t the next Samsung have a notch? Aren’t the 7, 8 and X already waterproof?

Hasn’t every competitor’s ad that pokes fun at iPhone bombed?

I know lots of folks who are loyal to the Note line. Which is why Apple is developing its own note competitor with stylus.

I’m not here to Argue and if you folks are shareholders then talk amongst yourselves. I’m just a mere pleb who enjoys gadgets and doesn’t feel the need to defend a 500+ billion dollar company as if it’s a lamb amongst the slaughter.

But if people do then great!

This ad is just pathetic. I miss the old "I am a Mac - I am a PC" ads, these WERE funny.

Now, as much as I have hated Apple, I hate Microsoft, Samsung, Google etc even more. Steve Jobs was great but also stubborn and in many times he was trying too hard to sound innovating and force the future on the consumers (doesn't matter if most of them are weak indeed) or the industry (doesn't matter if it is clueless in general). But if his "stylus" argument was about it being the only available option to interact with the smartphone then he was spot on. Being a (former) Palm Pilot and a (current) Galaxy Note and iPad Pro user myself, I know that you can't beat the stylus for taking notes, making annotations etc.

Too bad that Samsung doesn't get it either (in both technology and marketing). They probably stopped at Note 3 or 4. Stylus, MicroSD, 3.5mm jack, big screen, removable battery ... it would be great if they just made the typical CPU/GPU/DAC/Screen/Camera/Battery/Charging and Stylus (still plasticky, I miss my Palm Tungsten os much) upgrades instead of trying to outdesign/outsell/outmarket/outsmart/outdumb Apple. Offering a new Note that feels like a long remote control with curvy edges while still including a stylus doesn't make sense to me. It might make a sense to consumers that are weak enough to pay more for the "best phone" even if they should have bought the Galaxy S8 instead - they don't even care about the stylus. But I am not this type of consumer, sorry strategy analysts if your model thinks I am just noise or outlier.

I still believe that Samsung is the wrong company to care about a "niche" or about something "different" and "innovative". I wish Palm was resurrected and Blackberry somehow found some money that allows it to become more adventurous (I have lost hope in Motorola and Nokia decades ago). I am just fed up with seeing practically the same bezeless Android phone offered over and over by 1000 different brands.

But you're still stuck with Android, which means Google studying every aspect of your existence for their benefit. That's been my major hangup. I just don't like Google.
Perfectly stated. Samsung makes a good quality phone; but that is all negated by the evil google business model and exploitive Spyware OS that runs it.

Well they have a point I guess, although the majority of users probably couldn’t care less about a stylus.

Last year Apple sold north of 200 million proablies... I mean iPhones. If stylus’s are all the rage, then Samsung would have killed off the iPhone years ago.

This all reminds me of Steve Jobs showing a video of people using them losing their stylus’s. For any phone anywhere outside of physically able to use two hands - a stylus to go with a portable mobile phone is NOT practical. Im shocked that Samsung would build its major TV ad campaign ONLY around the stylus and “live messaging”. Haven’t we had that feature in iMessage for like years?

I love this ad, I miss my old iPhone 5, I was so happy when i unboxed it. Can’t wait for the iPhone X!

To each there own. Personally I’ve had an iPhone since launch but I’ve tried several android phones along the way. For me android is to clunky.

I’m a huge fan of stock Android and Apple. Samsung have always been the overpriced and most buggy android phones in the market. If you know your phones you know your money is better spent elsewhere with company’s such as OnePlus or Huawei. Its pathetic that Samsung have to directly target another brand for their marketing, at a meeting I hosted a year or so back for telecoms their reps kept making sly remarks about Apple until my territory leader commented about how some companies don’t need to diss others to gain attention - they weren’t too happy. This is marketed as “growing up” yet directly insulting a main competitor in your advertisements in the hope for greater market share proves that Samsung as a company haven’t “grown up” themselves

Cute ad! I love the notch haircut. The Note 8 is indeed a nice phone. I played with one a few days ago that was purchased by a former iPhone 7 owner. He was very excited about it and it was easy to see why, but honestly I wouldn’t want to switch from iOS and the stylus has little appeal to me.

You'd think companies would have learned by now that ridiculing the competition is not a winning strategy. As an iPhone user, why would I want to switch to a product from a company that has basically told me I'm an idiot for not buying their product I the first place? Nobody ever wins a debate by insulting a competitor. If anything, ads like this make Samsung look as though they are desperately trying to hang onto their existing base rather than expanding it. If they feel their product is superior, as I would expect them to, they should tout its superior features, not try to make people who didn't buy it feel stupid for not doing so. Apple got away with "I'm a Mac ... I'm a PC" because it was genuinely funny, but I'd bet they found that after a while, even that campaign became counterproductive. To win in the marketplace you need a truly superior product and good marketing that PERSUADES, not ridicules.
"Ridiculing not a winning strategy" I have to disagree with you.
First, I don't see the ad as ridiculing. Not like those Mac PC ads. I see the ad highlighting the shortcomings of the iPhone. It speaks to people who may have lost their phone to water or had to deal with dongle town because of Apple's design choices. Next, winning a debate by insulting the other side??? I guess that only works in politics. ;) Again, I don't see the ad as insulting but instead highlighting the shortcoming of Apple's phone. Maybe you feel showing this is insulting but others see it as touting the Samsung phone's superior user benefits. Instead of feeling stupid as an Apple buyer you feel under served by a phone with missing features you wish you had.
People will bring their own interpretation to the ad. While I continue to enjoy my iPhone 6s others may choose to try a phone that provides them features they can't get from Apple.

Last year Apple sold north of 200 million proablies... I mean iPhones. If stylus’s are all the rage, then SAMESONG

Cut the overwhelming bulk of your lame babble.

Steve Jobs: "If you have to use a stylus, it's a fail."

Tim Cook: "Buy our $100 Pencil!"

Enjoy your first ever non-bigass chinless, foreheadless, non-home button fresh design after 10 years of the -- all pun intended -- "same old song" design. Where would Apple diehards be w/out their hypocrisy & cherrypicked features? Zzz.

If you are reading this Samsung, I will never, ever buy one of your cheap brick plastic phones again.

Your phones are substandard and run on the worst software platform that I have ever experienced. I switched from Samsung a few years ago now and the overall quality and user experience with Apple is just on another level.

I'm delighted with my iPhone X, I received mine on Friday and I have been beaming all weekend.

But if you’re heavily invested in the Apple ecosystem, there’s probably not a huge chance for most jumping ship to Android. I’ve nothing really against Android, there’s a lot I like about it. Unfortunately there’s enough I don’t like about it still that prevents me from having it as my daily driver.

I want to share some experience to that since I’m using an Android phone in an Apple Ecosystem. iCloud is mostly built on open standards. Calendar and Reminders is synced by CalDav. Contacts are synced by CardDav. All you need to do is adding icloud.com and your Apple-ID to CardDav and CalDav and it syncs perfectly with my Android default Apps. Notes used to sync via IMAP which has (sadly) become more complicated. It is possible but does not sync with your default apps. iCloud Drive is also not available.

Im not a fan of Samsung Phones as most people are in this forum. That’s not because I hate Android but I hate what companies make out of it. As long it is not stock Android I’m out! Samsung with TouchWiz i the worse of all. But they also became better over the years. I’m using a Nexus 5X and I also like iOS. But don’t want to spend the money on it and I think (stock) Android offers more functionalities. Looking at Apples Control Centre. They’re changing it every freaking iOS release but still is a pain to use compared to android. Same goes with notification. Every system has its good and bad. And both system have advantages over the other.

This exactly. Nobody expects iPhone users to covert based upon this ad, it is playing into the perceived rivalry to attract android users to the brand.

As always android phones are ticking off features, while iPhones are about the whole experience. (Yes I know how much of a fanboy I sound like; but I did go to android from iOS for a while... the phone had more features, but the overall experience was not as good).

I love it, keep pointing out areas where Apple is lagging! I hope it puts pressure on Apple to add the Ipencil to the iPhones. Not everyone wants it but its nice to have. Better than goofy taking emoji. I also hate the dongle for my headset. They get lost and its annoying. Storage is a pain unless you spend the big bucks. But as Apple has planned it; I now store everything in the iCloud so its a win for Apple's bottom line.

That said I been there tried the Sammys and will never go back.
