It's going to be funny when the S9 has a notch next year. Not sure of any way around it right now and Samsung needs to keep pace with Apple, ditch the bezels and sloped edges as they are useless.

As an commercial director this is an utter failure of an advert.

1. Concentrating on other products rather than what you are trying to sell is pointless...especially as...

2. If you watch that mute... it looks like an iPhone advert all the way through (perhaps apart from the second to last scene where he opens the s9) even the last shot just says to me...”I ordered online”

3. The Apple logo was shown about 8 times - Samsung much less. Insane.

4. Berating other products have proven to not work - in the U.K. the famous adverts for a wheeled lawnmower and a hover mower... “it’s a lot less bother than a hover” - basically had the opposite effect and made people want the hover more.

Sour grapes advertising is childish and pointless - ironically of course the I’m a Mac / PC campaign WAS wildly successful and was slightly different in its tone I suppose.

In what ways is it innovative? The tech is awesome sure, but what can it really do that other phones can't?
Actual features, actual capabilities, real things I can do with it. Can you list any that say the iPhone 8 can't do? Or a cheap OnePlus can't do?

You might have missed something called FaceID.

It’s all about the OS for me. I much prefer iOS vs Android. I think Samsung makes some beautiful looking hardware but I’m not a fan of Android.

Plus, now that I have an Apple Watch and MBP, I’m heavily invested in Apple’s ecosystem. Added to the fact that most of my family and friends are on iOS as well, no iMessage on Android is another dealbreaker.
100% agree! My wife can't stand Android and I feel lost with iOS. Both Apple and Samsung make top level phones. Samsung tends to experiment with new features first and Apple takes its time, but maintains a familiar ecosystem.

Note 7 explodes. Apple's next commercial.

They never learn, iPhone X hype is insane and the main competitor releases iPhone X centric add, brilliant strategy !!

I own a Samsung 8 plus, and it is not even close to the iPhone X other than VR headset stuff.

Apple was never about ‘what’, but about ‘how’.

The reason why I like Apple Ads are because they do not focus or bash the completion. They focus on what they do well. They never compare to others. Branding is everything and at its best.

Apple focuses on their brand only. If you were running a car ad campaign, you wouldn’t want to focus on what that brand is doing. You’d focus on your product and that’s it. There will be worst products out there and there will be better products too. The key is to not focus on what your competitors are doing. Especially in a television spot where millions are watching.

This goes too you to Microsoft.

Yeah... Apple never bashed the competition. The "I'm Mac, and I'm PC" ads were so not about bashing the competition..

I'll switch the day a mobile devices company releases products that represent the same freedom that Apple offered us back in the days of Microsoft PCs. Apple (and Samsung, and Google) behave today exactly the same as Microsoft in those years, so any new company that offers me the freedom Apple used to offer, I'll switch, no doubt.

But Samsung is no better than Apple (nor worse --well, Android is worse than iOS, but company policies are no better nor worse).

A big problem with Samsung is that it runs Android. If they used Linux instead of Android, I'd very well consider a switch, as I'm tired of current life-control strategies from Apple. But Samsung is following the same life-control attitude as Apple. Both companies (as most businesses in today's internet ecosystem) know their money depends on controlling their users lives.

The one feature that android that iPhone doesn’t is large fonts. With a 5.5” android phone, you can make the fonts huge. Useful for people who have old eyes and don’t take bifocals everywhere.

Where Samsung sucks is customer service. Google and Apple will take care of you. Once your warranty is over, even if the battery explodes, Samsung will not help. I’ve had google and Apple replace stuff that wasn’t even covered under warranty.

I'm not understanding not only can I make the font larger I can also zoom the display on the iPhone.

I think Samsung should be supporting iPhone X to succeed. It's partially Samsung's baby too and why Apple priced it so high. Samsung is like a minor shareholder for it.

Samsung phones and Samsung componants are run as separate companies. I doubt Samsung know anything beyond the componants they are making and there will be legal things in place that the componants Division and the phone Division shouldn’t pass information - more than the contracts worth to break it.

I am very sure Apple holds Samsung shares and vice-versa!!

The technology to write down a contact convert it into a regular contact and search for it has been around since the Palm Pilot
Actually it arrived with the Apple Newton, I know I have the original and the Newton 2000, apple has implemented most of the Newton OS concepts and interface ideas in iOS.

Who pays attention to technology advertisements these days? It's just marketing spin. Buy what you feel is best for you and move on. There's no need to justify it.

That ad was pretty good showing some of the features of Samsung. Wireless charging, water resistance, screen quality, 3.5mm Port. Wasn't as tasteless as past ads.

It's funny I've noticed with this whole notch thing that many Apple fans are freaking out and ripping Apple about it. Then Samsung criticizes it the same fans rush to attack Samsung. Kinda funny.

Nah, the funniest part is that the Galaxy S phones sell a fraction of the iPhone.

Apple won the flagship phone race long ago.

I love how Apple just ignore Samsung. Don’t even refer to them as competitors, because it’s Google, not Samsung who are responsible for any success they have had in this area. I hope Apple keep this up. Act as if Samsung are nothing more than an Android OEM. Which is true, they are just very popular for some inexplicable reason.

Samsung phones still around? Who buys that overpriced junk?
Huawei has it all going for them
As for iPhones, nah. Was handed a 5s for work but I had no idea what bloated GUI-mess that iOS had become!

Oh yea definitely, I mentioned it earlier in the thread. Samsung wishes they had a flagship phone that sold anywhere close to what the X does, maybe even the 8.
