I kind of skimmed the ad. Did you notice that at the end, they did a weird dig of Apple people who stand in line. The guy in the Apple line had a receding hairline, where as the guy with the Samsung phone had more hair than when he first purchased the Samsung phone. Kind of a scummy.

Pretty good ad I thought, really shows a lot of areas where Apple were a step behind. Things like water proofing, MicroSD expandable storage, larger display sizes etc - These are not areas where Apple came in later and did it better, they just came in late.

EDIT:// A lot of you guys are replying to this message saying I'm misinformed, hypnotised by Samsung marketing or some other thing like that. If you're going to reply like that, don't bother, its already been done.

I'm an iPhone user, you can see that by my signature. But I'm no Apple fanboy. Samsung, HTC and Google have been first to have many features that Apple is late on.

Things they were late to adding: Water Proofing, Dual Front Facing Speakers, OLED, Edge to Edge displays, Wireless Charging, NFC Payments, Open NFC Framework for Developers to use, dual back cameras with different focal lengths, fast charging over USB (Apple still doesn't include a fast charger in the box like Android phone makers do).

Things we're still waiting for them to catch up on: Dual-output Bluetooth, Multiple Apps on screen at once with a divider (on iPhone not iPad), FLAC support in the music app, Expandable MicroSD Storage support for Media files, Side-loading applications for individuals and not just businesses, support for the Apple Pencil, auto-connecting to Bluetooth speakers via NFC tapping, USB-C on the phone instead of Lightning.

And there is a lot more stuff I'm sure, these are just some of the things I can remember. I've been an iPhone user since 2009 with the iPhone 3GS, I've never owned an Android device but I'm no sheep, we often have to wait years before we get the features Android has had and not all of them are implemented better on the iPhone, only some of them are.

It’s clear you are misinformed and hypnotized by Samsung marketing. Apple has said and people have noticed It’s not a matter of being first with Apple, it’s a matter of perfecting the tech before they release it. Apple has always done that and it has paid dividends for them in the form of quality and customer loyalty. On the other end of the spectrum when they do something to push the industry ina a direction wether it be removing or adding ports, people wine and complain but the industry does move in that direction. Apple has a lot of power. Apple products really just work.

Wow that was... direct. It features the iPhone so prominently that I'd honestly say it advertises it. Yes, they're trying to put it in a negative light, but I genuinely think this will sell more iPhones than hurt sales.
Don't forget Samsung makes $$$ from the OLED screen on every iPhone x sold.

Well done ad. Although I can’t believe Samsung spends so much money making fun of and insulting potential customers it then asks to switch.

You'd think companies would have learned by now that ridiculing the competition is not a winning strategy. As an iPhone user, why would I want to switch to a product from a company that has basically told me I'm an idiot for not buying their product I the first place? Nobody ever wins a debate by insulting a competitor. If anything, ads like this make Samsung look as though they are desperately trying to hang onto their existing base rather than expanding it. If they feel their product is superior, as I would expect them to, they should tout its superior features, not try to make people who didn't buy it feel stupid for not doing so. Apple got away with "I'm a Mac ... I'm a PC" because it was genuinely funny, but I'd bet they found that after a while, even that campaign became counterproductive. To win in the marketplace you need a truly superior product and good marketing that PERSUADES, not ridicules.

The "I'm a Mac" ads were brilliant, funny, and Apple ran them for 3 years - http://www.adweek.com/creativity/apples-get-mac-complete-campaign-130552/ They are still some of the best commercials I've ever seen, and I didn't even use a Mac back then. Maybe Apple should get some transparency and a sense of humor back. They have become slow, bloated, predictable, and frankly boring. They had to accelerate the X to get it out earlier than planned, and it shows.

This new Samsung commercial is really very well done. So many people just automatically buy an iPhone because that is what they already had. This ad makes people think about the fact that the iPhone has lagged in many areas... and still does. Its a choice someone makes. The ad actually captures a lot of why I ended up getting a Note 8, and am very happy with the purchase.

A few folks have joked about the Note 7 disaster. That makes the Note 8 an even more remarkable product... realizing they produced a totally new and very refined design in such a short time after a total disaster. The polish and lack of issues on the Note 8 compared to the latest Apple offerings is quite amazing given how much Apple prides themselves in being the best at software because they control the whole platform.

That's not even close to how the Note works. Here's how it works: While the phone is off, pull out S-pen, write name & phone number down on the screen. Put the pen away. Done. When you're ready to call that person, open up the written note and call the number directly from there.

Yes... so many people are experts on how terrible Samsung is that haven't used a Samsung device in recent times. That is why the video showing the Note 8 an X are very similar in performance is so important. No bloat or lag... just a very refined and quick experience. Samsung has stepped up their game and Apple fans should be happy about that. What else is going to cause Apple to pick up the pace? Left to their own, the X would have been here a year later.

The is really a cleverly disguised ad meant to keep Samsung users from switching to X rather than the other way around. It's a "confirmation bias" ad for Samsung users that uses iPhone uses as the punch line. Hard to convince people to switch to your product when you do it by telling them they've been idiots all these years.

Sure the ad regurgitates all of the differentiation between the Samsung models and iPhones but specs are only half of the story. I can go in to Walmart and find a $150 Moto Android phone that has most of the basic features of a Galaxy. Does that make the Galaxy overpriced or the Moto a better phone? No, of course not. There is more to a product than specs. But Samsung doesn't really get into that. It just softly mocks iPhones. Well, OK, then.

OTOH hand I'm no fan of the iPhone 8 or X ads -- they are cliche and pedestrian. But they do focus on the product, not the competition. Not because Apple wouldn't lower itself to that, clearly they have in the past. But because Apple now understands you get more flies with honey than vinegar. Bashing Samsung users doesn't pique their curiosity or bring them into the Apple Store.

You've mentioned bezels in several posts. Not really sure why. Which phone do you think has more bezel, the X or the Note 8?

Because the discussion was about Samsung making fun of the notch, but it will likely be the direction Samsung takes as well. Get rid of the top and bottom bezels, and add a notch for a front facing camera, etc. The Note 8 has a top and bottom bezel larger than the X currently.

Maybe they should keep their display tech also?

I’m certainly not a fanboy of any company, but this isn’t exactly accurate. Apple design their own screens and contract Samsung to build them as they have the facilities to do so at a large scale.

I doubt it. Samsung ASP is too low for them to sell that many.

Besides, we’ll never know how low sakes are because Samsung stopped reporting them back in 2014.

ASP is not that high because a S8 is selling at about half price of X. Nobody can have asp of Apple because nobody has so many die hard loyal fans

This said that 7/7+ market share is 8.9% whereas S8/S8+ is 5.3%. if you add in the sales of note series, like I said it is closer than you think...

the add is just so true...

but those are just hardware features, iPhone goes a year or two behind Android, still being a year or 2 beyond them in user experience.

a year and a half after using iphone 7 W/O jack , and still can't handled it, so many situations I forgot my lighting/bluetooth headphones and I couldn' use the ones the people around me have... this is a real ****

the add didn't say a thing about the **** battery on iPhone 7, it looks like they never sed one... :/

antenna gate?

glass surfaces?

limited disk space?

as in Macs, iOS is the only thing they have

[doublepost=1509977067][/doublepost]As an owner of a Samsung device one thing I have to say I absolutely love about the iPhone is its lack of bloatware. Over the weekend I saw a notification which I could not dismiss until I did what Samsung wanted me to do. The other day I had a similar notification from Google about updating my phone number. I also have virus scanning software running on the device. Software I am unable to remove. Sure I can disable it but I have to give kudos to Apple for a bloatware free device (though I do acknowledge there are some programs on an iPhone I'd rather not have).

Then what about Google? While Apple might get 60% of their revenues from the iPhone, Google gets almost 90% from ads.
Google makes their money, as you point out , in advertising; a thing that's never going to go away ever. Apple make the majority of their money on a product that can be usurped or fall out of fashion or be superseded by something better. Can't you see that Google's position is more secure in the grand scheme of things?

not to mention 6 and 6s are STILL very capable devices.
I bought a new iPhone every release from the original through the 6 and then, despite my desire for new tech, simply haven't been convinced to upgrade since. I just haven't seen any truly new and useful features that would be worth the price. Eventually I'll have to upgrade for security/speed issues, but I still have my 6 and honestly can't see how my life would be more than nominally better with a 6S, 7, 8 or X.

No, ASP is low because most Samsung phones sold are under $100.

As to your link, isn’t it pathetic that launch quarter sales of the S8 (their highest sales of the year) still can’t match the iPhone 7 sales in the 3rd quarter after launch?

Funny how they never do these comparisons with both phones in their respective launch quarters.

But the Note, S8, and S8 Plus all have higher screen to bezel ratios than the X. Also I'd bet Sammy's gonna keep that uniform top bezel, patent app notwithstanding. Even if they go with a notch, we can say they are copying a page out of Apple's marketing playbook. Dismiss something right up until the moment you adopt it. Larger phones, NFC, wireless charging mats, OLED phones. I doubt they'll go with the notch though. But that hairline... that was funny.

Completely agree with you - I had a 6 too, but when I went with an issue to genius bar, apple gave me 3 bad refurbished phones then upgraded me to a 6S for free (which I finally appreciated) but there is no truly game changing "feature" to move to 7/8/X. But I guess our usage is not the same as many others here on the forum.

I preordered my X and its coming next week - I am still on the fence on why I need it, I might just return it.

You said absolutely nothing here. No one on these boards wants to talk specifics about how Apple is late to many things Android users have had for years. For example Wireless Charging. You quoted my post where I listed a mountain of features still lacking and did not discuss a single one.

Honestly these things are just phones it's okay to say your phone isn't as feature packed as someone else's. Don't be a sheep.

I find the text situation has improved quite a bit when you use 3D Touch on the keyboard.

But how do you select text on a webpage when you have no keyboard up?

I agree it works well while a keyboard is up, otherwise not so much.

Got it.... I see it now. That's actually kind of funny :).

I own the own the iPhone X. I have to say, I thought the notch would bother me, but I really don't notice it anymore.

I agree about the Bloatware. I used to own an HTC. I loved the phone, that is, until it started acting weird after about 6 months. I never installed apps, but the phone would force me to add random stuff. I constantly found myself having to do clean re-installs of the phone.

Most of us don’t care about being late. We care about things working well. Which Apple has a knack at. Fingerprint scanners? You think I wanted my iPhone 4 to have one of those swipe bar scanner on it? Just so it could be first?

No thanks. But when touchID hit? It BLEW away the competition. So insanely fast compared to anything I had ever seen.

That's fine, I just prefer the look of the X myself. I like the screen going to each corner, it's a nice experience. They might stick with their current design, but I doubt it. They will likely feel pressure to change things up with the success of the X. I don't dismiss anything on the Android side, it just doesn't really matter to me. I prefer iOS so I don't mind waiting until Apple brings it over, usually it's implemented well and just adds to the platform.

But don't forget Samsung has 2 launch quarters (s and note series) in a year. No matter what the number of s and note sold is not "a fraction" what Apple sold. This fact is difficult for some apple fans to take ....please no wrist cutting he he :)
