when did they make fun of the notch
they didn't... they showed the iPhone X ad at the end but.. never mentioned "notch" ... i think some X users are a bit touch about the notch... lol. if all apps would hurry up and update for it, the notch would never be spoken of again.

Only time I use a dongle is when I listen to audio through my ‘91 E30’s tape deck, and that’s only because classics should be all original.

Otherwise, I’ve futureproofed everything. Powerbeats3 (AirPods don’t do it for me), wireless fast-charge station, USB-C/T3 cables for everything... they’re aiming at folks who still want to live in 2007, not to mention standing in line at a storefront is SO 5 years ago...

Clever, but my friends and myself know how to sync data, take care of their devices... and they wouldn’t be careless enough to shove me in a lake while I’m holding my phone. Let’s face it. You wouldn’t hold onto it once you hit the water.

This “I️” error, though...

The reason why I like Apple Ads are because they do not focus or bash the completion. They focus on what they do well. They never compare to others. Branding is everything and at its best.

Apple focuses on their brand only. If you were running a car ad campaign, you wouldn’t want to focus on what that brand is doing. You’d focus on your product and that’s it. There will be worst products out there and there will be better products too. The key is to not focus on what your competitors are doing. Especially in a television spot where millions are watching.

This goes too you to Microsoft.
I think that statement is wrong

They have moved on, and have a bit more tact recently, but using the word Never, is an incorrect statement

You'd think companies would have learned by now that ridiculing the competition is not a winning strategy. As an iPhone user, why would I want to switch to a product from a company that has basically told me I'm an idiot for not buying their product I the first place? Nobody ever wins a debate by insulting a competitor. If anything, ads like this make Samsung look as though they are desperately trying to hang onto their existing base rather than expanding it. If they feel their product is superior, as I would expect them to, they should tout its superior features, not try to make people who didn't buy it feel stupid for not doing so. Apple got away with "I'm a Mac ... I'm a PC" because it was genuinely funny, but I'd bet they found that after a while, even that campaign became counterproductive. To win in the marketplace you need a truly superior product and good marketing that PERSUADES, not ridicules.
I couldn't agree more... Well said.

Idk, I think it was a good ad. Some are missing the point. Apple is currently the king of smartphones. It would be a bit distasteful for them to target another company in an ad but the ‘underdog’ can do it. They are playing to their strengths in the ad, what’s wrong with that? If Apple comes out with a phablet with a pen most will swoon for it and wonder why nobody else did that already!?!

it would have been a cool ad up to Thursday, but it honestly looks a bit stupid post iPhone X launch.

Basically everybody is aknowledging the X as being the best, most innovative phone on the market. There’s not much Samsung can do around the fact that FaceID is a technological breakthrough that they simply do not have.

Apple hasn't made the best smartphone for at least 4-5 years now. The iPhone X may be a revelation with edge to edge display and OLED screens for iPhone users. People who have been buying Android phones for years now have had that. But the iPhone hardware is still respectable. The problem is the OS. Google has made such great strides in AI and machine learning that it's this seamless immersive experience and workflow on Pixels that going to leave Apple gasping.

Google's stumbled out of the gate with the Pixel 2 XL display. And it's hurt their Pixel 2 by association. But in every other respect, the Pixel 2 is an outstanding phone. It will be much easier for Google to ramp up on hardware than for Apple to ramp up on software. The difference between Siri and Google Now has been bad enough. Google Assistant is going to simply exponentially increase that gap.

Samsung today posted a new video on its YouTube channel called "Samsung Galaxy: Growing Up," which follows the life of a young man as he purchases Apple devices over the course of ten years, and then decides to switch sides to Samsung on the eve of the iPhone X launch. The 1-minute commercial features the song "I'm Moving On" by Chyvonne Scott.

The video begins at the iPhone launch in 2007, and subsequent years show the main character facing storage issues when taking a photo and waiting in long lines under poor weather conditions for the latest iPhone. At one point, he drops his iPhone in water and has to place it in a bowl of rice, while his girlfriend's Samsung device continues to function.

Other points made in the ad center around the iPhone's lack of stylus support, as well as its need for dongles after the removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack in the iPhone 7. The ad ends with the character's decision to turn off his iPhone and purchase a Samsung Galaxy smartphone, and he eventually walks past a line of people waiting for the iPhone X -- including a guy with a notch-like haircut -- without joining them.

The latest Samsung smartphone is the Galaxy Note 8, which launched in September with dual rear cameras, a 6.3-inch AMOLED 'Infinity Display', and a new and enhanced S Pen with improved pressure sensitivity. Many publications favorably reviewed the Note 8 prior to its launch, agreeing that the lack of an explosive battery made Samsung's newest device a step up from the Note 7.

Woah! Why are so many folks being salty about this? I guess y’all are getting paychecks from Apple.

Let’s check the receipts. Apple needs Samsung because they can’t make these displays on their own. Yet folks forget that.

I would say the bigger issue is why are folks defending a megacorp who’s entire existence lives and dies on the success of a single product?

Yeah i don’t use Samsung stuff but they are really diversified from construction to finance and Apple is not.

Anyway I’ll get back to enjoying my gadgets y’all have fun being the PR defenders of Apple.

That's odd. Samsung practically makes iPhones with their components. The chef making fun of their customer.

Still not as good as "The Next Big Thing" ads from 2011-2012.

"I'm creative."
"Dude, you're a barista."

^ And that's when their phones were made out of plastic and looked like crap before they started looking like this...

can someone explain how writing down a contact is much better than typing it in?

- you need two hands
- you need a stylus
- looks wildly uncomfortable to write without some palm rest
- unless there's some "google magic" going on, you can't search for that contact
- looks unorganized
- much slower to write vs typing

1. So does typing unless you have big hands or want to take a while.
2. If you use software writing it with fingers isn’t bad. Palm and Apple had ways to recognize handwriting and convert that to a contact.
3. Fair enough.
4. It’s called OCR, has been around for a while, but isn’t as accurate for hand writing. But it does work.
5. All of that is fixed via software.
6. Varies on the individual. If I’m typing a specific sentence, sure. But if I’m being creative and formatting stuff as I write, different story. I’m also way faster editing using handwriting.

when did they make fun of the notch
Go to the 51 sec mark. The guy in line waiting for an X has a notched hairline. That made me laugh.

They did. It was funny and subtle enough that if you didn't pay attention you would have missed it.
