I would laugh if Apple had to change all of the graphics on the iMac page on their website due to mountain lion being out but no new hardware. I know they would have to do that but it joust seems funny.

i said the same thing a couple days ago in this fourum but then i went back and... THEY HAVE ALREADY DONE THAT!!!! http://www.apple.com/osx/what-is/ they wont have to do much since they have already started doing them.. so pissed

July 25 iMac release!!!

I looked in the apple site and I put the iMac 27" in cart then I clicked pick up in store and I put some zip codes and some showed "in stock" and some showed "check availability" so I clicked check availability and all of the stores that had to check availability they get ne iMacs in ***July 25th***!!
I'm so happy!!!!!

Yes but then all should be check availability. Unless they're just trying to get rid of old stock.

Interesting find but every store had the 21 inch to be in stock for me besides one... which also had the 25th in for availability.

Interesting, that's the first I've heard of a 21" stock going to zero.

There are many possible explanations, but the most likely is that they're keeping the inventory as thin as possible in preparation of receiving new models. So that's the one I'm going with. :)

I was just in my local store the other day in NH and made some small talk with one of the employees while buying an Airport Express (sick of my failing Dlink and Linksys routers) and he said stock was pretty normal.

But it sort of makes sense to not run out of stock completely so customers who want to buy today still can.

They're also trained to be casually evasive.

Also back on topic, one store around the NY area has no stock of the base 21.5 iMac with more expected on the 25th July! This looks promising for a refresh.

As much as i'd like this to be true, we can't shake off the fact that all the 25th July stock could be is 2011 iMacs with Mountain Lion pre-loaded.

I spoke to a friend a mine who does the restocking at the Apple store and he told me that they had plenty of stock for the 21 and 27 inch iMac.

A bit premature happiness... Think you will get disappointed.

I'm not sure whether we can draw any conclusions yet. I just put a base config 27" iMac into the cart and entered my ZIP for Chandler. All five Phoenix area Apple Stores are reporting base models in stock. I added a CTO and all five stores are reporting... August 1st? That seems slow, but what do I know. It does seem consistent with new models shipping a week earlier... on July 25th.

Or else it's a 2011 restock. Honestly, we just don't damned well know. Urgh.

I don't feel that the stock levels at individual stores mean anything. When new models appear, Apple would likely just pull those old models out of stock and ship back to whatever facility they use to sell as clearance items.

Let me chime in with some more wishful thinking (at risk of burning myself, as my 2006 iMac is on its sunset boulevard and I don't know how much longer I can wait to replace it.)

I live in Italy and tried the same thing on the Italian store with all four iMacs, no CTO. One note: I don't have any Apple Retail Stores in my immediate proximity and the closest is in Rome, 200 km / 125 miles away. I put in my zip code (66100.)

For ALL of them, the estimated delivery date is July 26th with standard shipment and July 25th with express shipment.

Of course it could be just that it's the old ones with ML preinstalled, but why lock deliveries for almost a week when they can just sell them with Lion and give the free update coupon?

The SKUs are as follows:
- base 21": MC309T/A
- better 21": MC812T/A
- base 27": MC813T/A
- better 27": MC814T/A
I think they're the same as before, but clearly they wouldn't expose it like that, now would they?

*wishful thinking, ready to slam his face against harsh reality*

It's curious because even if there are no rumors pointing to the Mountain Lion launch date, the poll is clear. 59% voted for this date.

Real convictions or "I want to believe" ?:p

Exactly my concern, if it was going to be released in 3 days time we'd have some hint or leak or reliable rumour suggesting that, utter silence makes me think it has got to be later.

I'm actually willing to bet a fair amount it won't be the 24th July, often you get a feeling of a imminent release, nothing here, not now. I hope it's soon though!

Maybe the whole "doubling down on secrecy" thing is actually working out? Ah, there goes my wishful thinking again. However, I always had a feeling that the "leaks" are actually orchestrated by Apple itself as part of its marketing strategy. With so few people working on key products, nobody would risk their jobs and a harsh legal attack by Apple about the NDA just to be an independent whistleblower on a rumor site.
In the case of iMacs, barring the retina display (which I personally doubt about), the specs are easily inferred: Ivy Bridge, USB3, better graphics, perhaps HDMI input across the line. That's pretty much it.

I'm still not sure why Apple would lock the sales for a few days, with deliveries apparently scheduled for July 25th in the US (and 26th in Italy, but that's to be expected: we are the province of the empire :D) just to have the old machines preinstalled with ML. They could just use the whole coupon system until the last day and actually even beyond, in case you buy a machine that has been in stock for a few days and therefore only has Lion.

I'm the first to admit that I probably just want to believe ;) but it's July 21st and the delivery is scheduled for the 26th on current machines here. And what's the stock turnover at Apple? Five days. Hmm. *crosses fingers, toes, and anything else he has in pairs*

I just wonder how long the estimated delivery date has been July 25th/26th...

Well, remember that this would just a spec-bump, and that the specs rumor and benchmarks of new iMacs had already been revealed by 9to5mac before WWDC.

So maybe Apple just wanted to have some hardware to launch with Mountain Lion, as did the last year with the MacBook Air and Lion.

----------

Also we have to consider that only the iMac is scheduled for a July 25 shipping date.

Therefore, if the reason was the Mountain Lion pre-installation on the new machines, MacBooks, Mac minis and Mac Pros would be scheduled for the same date too, but they aren't.
