Again, I doubt it... just from a pure GPU processing power point of view I feel that there is a way to go yet.

The fact that MR chose not to repost it should tell you something.

i loled at this article.. this is no were near right.. i mean they are saying new imac with retina in 2012 but redesign in 2013.. i dont think apple would ever put a new screen in the same case.

So we now know for certain that mountain lion will be on general release 24th July. I am, however, nervous about lack of leaks on a new iMac. What do people think? July launch still possible?

Seeing as last year, Apple released Lion the day after the earning call. If Apple chose to do the same this year ML would be released on the 25th of July.

Gold master for Mountain Lion was also released today.

With the new App system in place, there shouldn't be any need to link OS updates with hardware. So I'd say new iMacs could happen any day, with the only hitch being that Macbooks were just updated and they can barely keep up with demand.

Hey guys I was checking some past news from July last year and when the new Macbook Air and Mac Mini launched with Lion, one day after Apple Financial Conference there wasn't any great and shocking news about new hardware and they still came out so, I think that the new iMacs are definitively coming with ML, Apple can't keep any longer their flagship desktop PC with one year old hardware, so hopefully! (correct me if I'm wrong with any real indications last year of new hardware for Lion Release) !!! :apple::apple:

True but in the event that Apple does release new iMacs and mac minis it's is a lot easier for them to only support Mountain Lion on the new machines rather then having to support Lion for a few weeks and mountain Lion.

Who knows maybe those products will have specific features that only work with mountain lion that are hardware enabled.

I can't think of any but here's hoping. Have heard this argument before about the difficultly supporting hardware on 2 specific OS platforms and it makes no sense to me. But at this stage I am willing to take any shreds of hope that people are willing to find supporting a July refresh

If it's 25th, it's going to be a spec bump. I'm thinking anything more than that would have some form of proper press launch in a theatre somewhere and for that to happen they should have been sending out invites 2 - 3 weeks in advance. We would have heard about any events by now if there was something dramatic on the 25th.

With Apple it is generally later than what everyone expects, so October seems more likely and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see just a spec bump only. So underwhelmed yet again. :(

We'll see iMacs and Mac Minis this July with Mountain Lion. Also, remember that February 2011 MacBook Pros went Sandy Bridge and May 2011 iMac followed. At that point, the other half of their mainstream computers needed to see Sandy Bridge updates too. What better time than Lion to bump the Mac Mini and MacBook Air? Hopefully something similar happens to the Mac Mini and iMac with Mountain Lion

Random data point: I just checked my local :apple: stores for stock-model top 27", and there's actually one store that has none in stock (expected July 14). Might mean nothing, but it's the first time I've seen that.

July 25th! 2012 model will be here!!! Lol

I know a Danish reseller isn't the best argument for or against a upcoming release of the new iMac, but it worries me when they all of a sudden have +100 of each models in stock after having been low or totally out of stock for at least a month.

Same here in Holland. I'm in for a new iMac and when visiting my local Apple reseller at the beginning of last week they told me that there was no stock. They also told me that could be because of an upcoming update, but they said it's all speculation. Last friday I was there again and no news. They took my email as they would contact Apple on monday to try to get some info on delivery dates. Got an email last monday and all iMac's where in stock and if I ordered they could deliver this week. Kind of surprising.

I'm planning on ordering the top model 27" but have decided with all the speculation on possible updates that I better wait until ML is introduced this month. If there are no updates I probably am going to order the current iMac.

New here on the forum btw. :)

John Lewis in UK - Large nationwide department store and a fairly major UK :apple: reseller has more than 10 in stock of all size and models of the off the shelf iMacs. :(

PCWorld UK only have the 27s in limited stores the rest are Out of Stock for order/ collection.

Comet only 21s available in selected places. 27s Out

Amazon.co.uk well reported as out on all models

Transcom / Cancom specialist and main :apple: reseller out of stock of all but 21s 2.7ghz . These guys are pretty much a barometer as they used to be the only Approved Apple Reseller in East Scotland back in the days... and are pretty much the 'Apple store' in Edinburgh (though I don't personally recommend them at all).

So for me it looks like a spec bump coming in the near future! This many retailers can't have speculated down to this kind of lack of selling capability - though they might be wrong also:eek:

Situation is probably worse here than it was a few weeks ago all the suppliers above have stock

John Lewis - still showing over 10 in stock (excl 27 which shows over 5
PCWorld - All available
Comet - cheaper 21 and 27 in stock
Amazon - all in stock
Transcom - all variants and BTO available.

So any launch in July will be a surprise, because right now it looks like a lot of principle retailers will be screwed over.
And now as I can't hang off any longer for the person buying my iMac - that is me onto PC for the foreseeable...

Its already later than what everyone was expecting lol

True, we have to reset our expecting clock several times a year lately. ;)

They are already screwed over, having to stock old technology at high prices. Any dealer would be thrilled to have a new line to sell no matter.

That's not quite right. I was in the market for a MacBook Air last year so was watching carefully and by July we knew the backlit keyboard would be back, we knew the spec of CPUs and we also had some inventory numbers if I remember right. So no. The lack of news thus far is not 'normal', even for a refresh. In fact, having been fervently adamant on 24th July since 11 June, I am now getting very nervous. The only tangible bit of evidence is the benchmarking which came out in April.

I concur, the geekbench result back in april/may was the only concrete form of evidence pointing to a possible refresh. Everything else has been pure speculation. No hardware leaks, SKU numbers, models, nothing, zip, nada. I strongly believe many (including myself but not so much since I just ordered a MBA and should be getting it next week :D) will be disappointed once the public release of ML rears its head, only to find out, lying in its cute kitty shadow, are the old outdated 2011 iMac models. I could be wrong but I don't think we'll see a refresh with ML. I honestly couldn't wait any longer and seeing that the semester is right around the corner, I needed a PC sooner rather than later. Now if the iMacs are released with ML, then great, but I don't think it's happening. Apple has deceived us before and can, and will surely do it again!!! Also, by this time last year, there were several rumors floating around the Mac Mini refresh. Surprisingly, we haven't heard anything in that regard. It looks like Tim Cook has truly "doubled down on secrecy" (marketing jargon for preventing leaks of upcoming hardware in order to clear out old inventory and sell it to impatient folks!!!)

I wouldn't be too concerned that stock hasn't dried up completely. I went into Myer in Australia and they said that they still have a bunch of old MacBook Pros that they need to clear.

They said that they have only been giving small shipments, but apparently this is due to the end of financial year. They also a $100 off all Apple products (excluding Mac Minis and iPads) whatever that means...

I went into JB-hifi in Australia and said I was in the market for a new iMac once they update the spec and the guy said he has no idea when that will be. I then said, I just can't justify buying the current model to which he replied 'thats just as well, because we have no stock'.

My gut says that with the release of ML, the fact that the iMacs are well overdue compared to normal and the fact that the rest of the range (excluding Mac Minis) are on upgraded specs, I'm still fairly confident we will see a minor upgrade with ML.
