I was in the Apple store earlier today and the sales guy and I agreed that the iMac will have a soft launch once Mountain Lion arrives.

I hope you are right about that. I'm going to wait until ML is released and if the 2012 iMac is not released then I am going for the May 2011 iMac. I think it will either be released in July or not until 2013.

Noticed that here in Holland too, though the Apple webstore still has stock but checking a few resellers I noticed some mention the top 27" out of stock. I'm not sure, but that being quite a pricey iMac, I doubt it's the hottest seller in the iMac range? I can be wrong though ofcourse

I think most of them get picked up at a discount by resellers and sold as new (and discounted).

That is good news i hope!! Would be silly if they get a new huge batch of the old machine..
I'm getting more and more hopes for a July release, as it seems I'm in luck these days. I was gonna buy the wacom cintiq 21ux. But decided to wait till after holiday as I knew its a 2 year old equipment. Now after one week in my holiday Wacom finally released a new model. So then I assume I can order a brand new Wacom cintiq and a brand new iMac when I get back

It could also go with the idea of an iMac refresh along with ML this month. Anyway, who's to say that the rumour of an August launch for iPhone 5 is true?

Won't happen as the iOS 6 will come on fall, I find it hard to believe the iPhone 5 will be equipped with iOs 5...

I heard from my local retailer that the base model 27" was now showing as discontinued on their system.

This was the same guy that tried to persuade me that high end model 27" that they'd just got in stock was in fact the new 2012 model though...

I don't really believe it because if there is a Q3 fiscal on July 24 and a rumored wwdc from July 22 to July 27 then they won't do it so close the wwdc in June and July and then August.
I say July 25th with ML release.

WWDC only happens once a year. A keynote for a product launch however happens several times a year.

What @overg is saying is that iPhone 5 will not arrive before iOS 6. Which makes yesterday's loose talk of an August launch a bit famcifull. And I agree with him.

Can't think of any other reason for this other than the imminent release of the 2012 iMac on July 19th!! Can't wait to see the new machine.

Sandybridge to Ivybridge and USB2 to USB3 is trivial modification. They could have shipped that ages ago.

I have no clue what they are up to, to be honest. But still trying to pedal USB2 equipped kit in July 2012 is criminal.

Lately I've been going to store.apple.com, putting 1 of each iMac in my cart, and for each one in sequence picking "ship to store". I put in my zip code and it shows me the Apple stores w/in 50 miles. Most say "in stock", and some say "check availability" and you click that to get their expected date.

Today is the same as yesterday - all stores have both 21", 2 stores have no base 27", and 2 stores have no top 27".

I agree with that, but it also suggests that they're not keeping any extra on hand, which could indicate a replacement coming soon. I'm aware that it conclusively tells us nothing. But it's interesting to watch.

I think that if no new iMac will be introduced in July, we are going to enter limbo state.
means, many stores will not have it, it will be hard to buy and iMac , so basically every one ( stores\ people) will wait for the new iMac 3 month or more.
that means that apple will have 1 product that people simply cant buy.
if that happen someone at apple ****ed up soooo bad... I can't even imagine what he is going through.
