Wait, what? When did this happen?
Who or what is going to replace them?! They're not just the standard, they're THE remote people. I suppose they're thinking people will just use their phone, similar to how they have their Harmony app. To me, it's just not the same.
About a week ago, I can’t believe it either. :-( I love my Harmony! Good news is they will continue support including maintaining and adding devices to database (I think):

How frequently do people lose their remotes and keys? Honestly I've never been unable to find my remote for more than about 10 seconds. It'd take longer to launch an app than the couple seconds to check around the couch, there it always is.
Ive found the remote in the refigerator, the next day of course. I've found the remote inside a book, after about 4 days. It wasn't a good book.

Interesting it’s still called “Siri remote” after code was found in the new OS referring to it as “Apple remote”. Maybe it’s a regional thing after all, since Siri isn’t available in all countries.

It is amazing how people think that technology is the solution for everything. How about placing the remote in the same place always after we use it! Like we do with so many other things with no problem. It never takes me more than 10 seconds to find it in my couch or the side table beside it.

It seem often enough since Apple considered it in their air tags commercial to show a lost remote. If you have a loveseat that it doesn’t seem to happen as often as a full couch.

Sounds like a plan are usually do it on the coffee table however I have an always left alone I’m curious have you been around since 1980 how many TVs have you had we had to search for the remote and found it in the size of your couch or in the seats of your couch or behind the pillows of your couch or maybe you had a friend over and moved it all the way to the kitchen or somewhere else curious? You might have to think really deeply to get this one out

I think the idea here is that the Airtags are a little more serious than for things you are likely to only ever to lose within the same room. The overall scale of the Find My network is large and something Apple likely worked on a lot, and so instead of reducing it to a remote-finding gimmick Apple might be redirecting attention to its larger purpose and application.
Quite the solid point. I can get the remote and other house things benefiting from them but this comment brought back perspective for me.
Thinking again about the bicycles, important case/envelope/etc, heck I even forget who amongst my friends have spare keys for the apartment in case of emergency (this would show where they are).

I have four kids and I haven’t seen the remote in months.

Check-mate

Damit I was hoping it would have at least the locate feature like the Roku Ultras have. And yes you dont know how many times I loose the current Apple remote in my bed mixed up in the sheets due to the size of the controller. Hopefully since this one is larger it wont happen as much.

lost and not found:

1) 2nd gen Aliminimum remote (720p tv)
2) 3rd gen glass remote (1080p tv)

tv4K remote currently taped together holding the broken glass since it cannot survive a drop of 17 inches onto my tile floor.

side note: it would have been cool but completely unnecessary to have the MagSafe connector on the new Apple TV :) ...and drive up the msrp

** anyone know if the DAC does native 24 BIT/ 196 MHZ **

Not everyone is OCD and without children. I often just grab my iPhone or an iPad now and use that instead of trying to find it. I could have told you on Day 1 that the Apple remote is the weakness of Apple TV 4K. At least we have a mute function now! 🤣

That's all great - but why could it not be used for bo

Agreed! I don’t want an AirTag for my Siri Remote... I want the remote to have a U1 chip and be able to find it in my house! I don’t think one would take away from other. In fact when you have a confined space the device is lost in, it would be a excellent opportunity to use the AR features to pinpoint the exact location in the couch... you know the literal example they used in the AirTags video. When the dude dove into his couch cushions.

Wow. Missed opportunity, and this is a sad situation.

Because even if, hypothetically, I wanted to give them more $, I would never dare putting an AirTag on another object that has just twice the same volume of an AirTag. My remote would suddenly become way too bulky.

To me, there's no solution here.

I invite you to live with my girlfriend for one week. You will marvel at one otherwise smart, sane, normal person’s inability to keep a remote control in one place for more than five seconds.

Do someone knows if the new iPad Pro have the U1 chip ?

"It also appears that the 2021 iPad Pro models are lacking a U1 chip as well, though the new Apple TV does indeed have U1 support"

Wait. What? The flagship iPad doesn't have the ability to track the new airtags? Or am I missing something.
