I picked one up last night as I'm downsizing my portable setup and it's a nice colour which 100% looks like blue when using it, but it's definitely "silver with a hint of blue". Which is fine. Its a nice difference coming from a Space Black machine.

One of the Apple Podcasts in the last week or so was talking about colours and apparently they have tested more bold colours on their laptops, but in practice, they don't look as good as you'd think which maybe explains their reluctance to shy away from these pale shades.

The second reason is probably that this color is created by an admixture of particles and not, like Midnight Blue, by applying a layer with which, as we know, there were various problems when it comes to durability.

I had originally wrote something else but edited it. But couldn’t delete the post. I’m just curious why you’re so anti MBA and so pro MBP.
The release of this new MacBook Air made me angry… it wasn’t a huge upgrade and everyone is talking about the price when in fact it’s the same in Canada if I pick the 512gb model or 24gb of ram… and only 50$ less if I pick the base model… And that’s not all… they didn’t just increase the upgrade prices on the MacBook Air but on every Mac from 250$ to 300$… meaning upgrades are cheaper in USA than Canada now… it should be like 275$ maximum

Welcome to Canada.

Don't expect big changes before a complete redesign. Apple has always operated like that. And I still think it's a pretty big upgrade, biggest since the release of that chassis. Base 16GB RAM, max 32GB RAM, support for 2 monitors, TB4, better camera, new color...

Upgrade price increases suck, but I'm pleasantly surprised that overall the base price for the 512/24 change by $10 IIRC. I was expecting far, far, far worse.

TB4 is simply the dual monitor support. The previous versions met the TB4 spec except for that.

There was only one TB4 controller internally shared across two ports (that's why no TB4 cert). With M4 there are two controllers. So you have 2x speed when having connected two devices/displays.

Pictures honestly don’t do it justice. Every photo I see (even mine above) make it look more blue than it is, or more silver than it is.

I highly recommend looking at it in person. When you see it one in real life, it’s a color that does look very silvery, but it also isn’t going to be mistaken for being regular silver. It’s got a very clear blue tint and the lighting changes its intensity.

My question to everyone that had silver one, is sky blue less shiny at night or in bright light?
What I mean is the the light reflected off the keyboard and touchpad area which can be very distracting.

It's a nice color, but I do wonder why Apple's seen fit to give us Silver, Silver with a gold tint, and Silver with a blue tint now.

Anybody have some comparison pictures between it and Starlight?

I’m torn between midnight and starlight but am interested to see the difference between Starlight and blue as I haven’t had chance to see in person just yet

If you have an iPhone you can try the AR thing. Hopefully you get some real photos but you're relying on photos of the starlight, midnight, and sky blue, under the same lighting. AR might actually be the best bet.

I would say since they know the most common place for these computers will be meeting rooms and class lectures they likely decide to use colors as neutral as possible to not be distracting.

Before someone brings up the iMac, most of those iMacs are at reception desks or computer labs, where that distraction of color is less important, but most are going to be in the home above all.

Key is, it looks more blue in Natural lighting, and more silver in indoor lighting.

Does the color Sky Blue have a longer lifespan than Midnight on the MacBook, or does it not matter?

In the bright lighting of the Apple Store, the blue is barely noticeable, IMO. I am sure it is more visible in other lighting conditions. Starlight is much more visible of a shade

I have a question: It's obvious that on the Midnight color, there is some sort of coating (perhaps anodizing?) that you can scratch through to reveal the silver beneath. Say around the ports.

Okay, but I'm not interested in the Midnight anyway; I'm deciding between Silver and Sky Blue.

1) Is the Sky Blue (and Starlight) an anodized finish? I presume they are, so any scratches would show the base aluminum silver color.

2) What about Silver? Is that also anodized or coated? I suppose it must be. But perhaps people say it doesn't scratch as easily only because if you do scratch it, you also scratch through to the base aluminum underneath, but the scratch matches the Silver finish more.

I guess another way to put my question is..... the Silver is also a coated finish, right? Just with a similar color raw material underneath? So Sky Blue and Starlight are also coated (like the silver) but just scratches will be more obvious because they scratch through to raw aluminum color and not their own color.

Reason I'm asking is thinking about any "gotchas" to ordering Sky Blue. I've always had silver (once I could no longer get my preferred white) so never had to think about it.

Pro tip : go to the Apple Store and check by yourself!

Persnally, I think Starlight is a "warmer' colour and my next MBA is going to be the Starlight colour.
