Ah, that one they got from Corbis as they do with all of their pretty photos.

*if* I'm not mistaken, its from this photo shoot: http://pro.corbis.com/imagegroups/imagegroups.aspx?typ=2&id=1246749&ri=42-16423755

But it seems like that specific image isn't available atm, Apple probably just bought it outright.

Reading this I couldn't help thinking Apple probably just claimed ownership of the pic after telling them to cease and desist using the name Snow Leopard :D.

I went through this gallery last night and it is getting pretty exciting. Especially good to see the keyboard shortcuts prefpane getting a decent update - hopefully it will actually save custom shortcuts properly now too!

Still on my list:
- Finder Back/Forward toolbar button still only allows 'Back' in text only mode, which imo is the only mode Finder should be used in.
- iTunes dashboard widget is reportedly still broken, when last I asked with the earlier leak, they said you still can't choose a playlist from the flipside of the widget, and I'd bet it still crashes reliably as well, only 5 years later so I guess that's to be expected .

That's a pretty short list! Of course it is all assuming that they've fixed Leopard's persisting graphical corruption, broken menubar app focus, random changing of colour calibration on wake from sleep, random refusal to wake from sleep, random waking from sleep for no apparent reason, random forgetting of wireless networks, random refusal to connect to SMB shares, issues with FTP shares, issues with displaying file 'kind' at all in SMB shares, issues with updating icons in stacks, issues with getting stuck in list view navigation of stacks, etc.

That's a longer list, and all since Leopard's inception, so no holding of breath :(.

No it doesnt open the mts file to bad :(

That sucks... I thought Quicktime X was suppose to be about CONTENT.

Doesn't seem much different than the original other than it has a different UI. I'd like to see Quicktime be as good as VLC in terms of content playability... FLV, DivX, XviD, M2TS, MTS, MKV, H.264 (efficiently), AVI, etc....... the list goes on.

The majority of video files out there in the "real-world" (FLV, MKV, AVI, DivX, XviD) Quicktime won't play without plugins. It only likes to play video files in Apple's little "bubble" of a world. Lets hope that Quicktime X changes this.

So I guess my point is: Is the (one) browser process only seperated from the plugin processes or do there really exist individual (browser-)processes for each tab? You definitely make it sound like the latter but I don't think your example would be proof for that ?!

Do you have an example, where the rest of the browser stays intact when Safari crashes on a tab instance without any plugins?

Thanks!

As far as I'm aware each tab acts as its process; I was trying the brand new release on the W7 RC, and for every tab I opened W7 seemed to think I'd just opened up a brand new window - made a mess of the taskbar before I realised :p However, I guess that doesn't really give proof for stability stuff though :(

I'm assuming it's the same for OS X, but I haven't had it crash on me yet. Hope this helps! :)

Problem is... since OpenCL is so new to the Mac platform, there aren't really any apps written yet to take advatage of it.

I hope HandBrake adopts OpenCL rather soon after the release of SL!

I would figure the Apps that come with the OS are optimized. And what about Grand Central taking advantage of the Multi-Cores? That should be implemented since OpenCL isn't available to all computers (i.e. Me and my iMac).

At least some subjective input would suffice for me. Its not a big deal or anything I'm just getting excited.

Visit this website and tell me what happens to Safari... Seems to me that each tab is NOT there own process... you tell me.

Then for sh¡ts and giggles... visit the same site on Firefox and tell me what happens. :)

Why can't Safari handle animated GIFs!

Content? Who said that?

QuickTime X is more about performance than anything else. Have installed Snow Leopard, and I gotta say, it is SNAPPY. Like, right before you click a button snappy. ;)

There's a lot of other neat touches, and I think the final release might be even faster. Everything is just so much faster in performance, which is a good thing for us users. The best part? It's mighty stable! :D

That is still quite disappointing. For the "most advanced OS in the world" why is it so freakin bad for video work compared to windows? Isn't "the mac" geared towards creative work like...video editing? Why did they justify the removal of firewire in the last macbook because video cameras are going usb? They do realize those usb cameras are AVCHD right?

Windows Media Player 12 handles just about everything and it looks stunning in Win7. Kinda bummed about this.

When did apple say anything of the sort?

Sorry if I'm mistaken, but people on this forum need to realize that the opinions and guesses on this site about how and why apple does something DOES NOT MEAN APPLE ACTUALLY SAID IT THEMSELVES.

now im not sure if apple did or did not say this, but my post still applies for MANY MANY scenarios in countless threads around here.

Do you know if Quicktime X will natively play MKV files (H.264 video)? If it does, will it support DTS pass-thru?

Also what about the issue it has with AC3 pass-thru? Currently it downmixes it to stereo before it outputs it, do you know if they fixed this in Quicktime X?

I will be completely satisfied with Quicktime X if it can handle MKV files, more efficiently decode H.264, and support AC3/DTS pass-thru correctly.

Steve Jobs wrote it in a personal email to someone angry about the firewire removal. So before you go chastising "people on this forum", make sure you know what you're saying. I'd say Mr. Jobs speaks for Apple wouldn't you?

This was all over the internet when the macbooks came out.

QuickTime X includes a brand-new player application, offers optimized support for modern codecs...
Shouldn't it support more video formats? I guess we'll actually have to wait for the final release to see...

Yeah that was another thing that gave me hope. I guess we WILL just have to wait and see....frankly I don't see how Apple has any excuse for being YEARS behind on this issue. It shouldn't be that big of a deal.

At least there will be clipwrap 2.0 either way. :)

Is it just me, or is the opaque menu-bar more white than gray here? I love white over the nasty gray we have now any day.

Did you read my damn post? I stated very clearly that I wasn't sure if apple said it or not. Read the end of the post.

Well, why would you come out and state that if you didn't know? Seems like a pointless post to get on my case if you didn't know in the first place. That's a little silly, don't you think?

Anyway moving on...

Screen Recording in Snow Leopard

Does anyone know if this will be present in snow leopard? I read back in April that snow leopard will allow not only screen grabbing, but video grabbing as well.

It was a dual purpose post. Very simple to understand.

Anyway, yes, moving on.

I'll be buying my macbook pro sometime in august for college, when installing a new OS am I able to keep any documents I have or am I better off saving and backing up files to an external, upgrading, then putting them back in their respectful places?

Maybe putting the docs in another partition.
