Why don't you just wake up your phone by pressing literally any other button? You got the power button, the volume buttons, and the mute switch to choose from.

The phone is fine, it doesn't need to be "fixed", you just have to learn how to use it.

Personally I have no issues with the new speed, and think it's an amazing bit of tech. But, to answer your question, the home button is the easiest one to reach when mounted to the windscreen of the truck without reaching just a little further than is comfortable so I have to adjust how I use the home button to wake the screen.

Honestly I had this problem even with the iPhone 6, but there is no doubt the 6s is a lot faster!!

Still, overall this is a big improvement. I've already adapted to generally waking the phone with a different finger if I just want to see what notifications have come in. The rest of the time the speed is much welcomed. For example, I was watching something on the tv last night, via Airplay on the iPhone which I do frequently. It used to be that the lag time to wake the device up and present me with the controls in the program I was using was enough to make me often keep the silver ATV remote in hand. Now the phone unlocks so quickly that I was able to use my phone like a real remote.

You could:

1. Push the WAKE button.
2. Use a non-registered finger

Or... If you are absolutely determined to use a Touch ID registered finger:

3. Swipe as you push the home button.

I like the new expedited functionality. But for all those that are unwilling to accept the other workarounds and want to keep using their assigned touchID finger regularly, just press it real quick, almost like a tap. Works like a charm.

They need to put a delay in the settings :)

I too was thinking that they should allow for adjusting the sensitivity. I've always been a fan of the Touch ID and must say that I'm not really digging this change as much.

If enough people are truly bothered, Apple will probably add some adjustment. In past they have enhanced every feature they perceive need's it. Who would have thought a feature most wanted speeded up is now too fast. A bit of irony there.

I had gotten used to pressing my wake/sleep button over the home button on my 6 anyway. I was actually annoyed at how slow the Touch ID could be on that thing.

Now with my 6S+ I'm enjoying the Touch ID almost as much as "Hey Siri" (will refrain from giving details on what I ask Siri to protect the children on this forum).

Do you guys notice the screen waking instantly when you press the home button? Mine has a very slight delay, causing me to have to hold my finger on the scanner a bit longer than I'd anticipate, based on reading this thread.

The speed of the new Touch ID is truly incredible. If I do a quick click on the home button the phone unlocked instantly every time. No more leaving my finger there for a second or two. One downside is it's not impossible to click the home button quickly just to turn the screen on and see your notifications. Guess I'll need to start using the power button to do that.

I didn't even realize Touch ID was slow until I used the new generation Touch ID. :p

Just press the home button to check for notifications with a finger that you dont have a touch ID assigned too.

That kind of defeats the purpose though.

I have touch ID set with my thumbs since 99% of the time I take out the phone I'm initially using it with one hand. If I'm pressing the home button to just check notifications/time then I'm likely also using it one handed so a thumb press is the most convenient. Using a different finger, as suggested, would limit that kind of quick operation or one-handedness.

I'll just have to get used to hitting the wake/sleep button instead, even though I have to burn that into muscle memory already since I'm coming from an iPhone 5 with that button on the top.

One problem I see with TouchID being really fast is Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay > Double-Click Home Button. It is so fast that you can forget about double-clicking the home button unless you use a wrong finger.

Someone on here taught me the trick to use your finger nail or the edge of your thumb :)

I honestly think its too fast, I put my phone in upside down in my pocket, and when i pull it out, its already unlocked

Even so, The new speed doesn't require any major changes in how you use it. Program one finger to open the phone (thumb or index) and when you want to just glance at notifications just use a different one (index or middle).

My point is that complaints it's "too fast" are invalid.

No, they're not. As I mentioned above, your workaround defeats the purpose for single handed use.

I said that I'll just have to get used to using the sleep/wake button instead, but telling people to just use a different finger isn't a valid substitute.

Exactly. You can use the sleep wake or volume buttons to wake it up. Still fine for one handed use. For the fellow who couldn't reach the sleep button and needed the home button he can reach with a different finger. Either way, everyone is served just fine.
