Apple would never introduce a touch screen iPod without a special event.
Nor would they do it a month before WWDC and without notice.

They did it with the incredibly anticipated Macbook...and they have (probably) already displayed the new iPod's features at Macworld with the iPhone...

People keep saying the iPod would cannibalize the iPhone sales when I believe would be the opposite ...

Plus as some really clever guy wrote before... iPhone is just for the US... and in Europe (and other countries) we buy more ipods in 3 months than the whole US in a year...

So I do not know about new ipods or not but, I do know they need one refresh on the video line...

who cares about iphone sales; hope, earnestly, that it tanks badly, and that SJ has a drew baylor moment. Whatever is up, must come down.

This may not be true, but I have to think the 6G iPod will have to be coming out sooner rather than later. The current iPods look archaic now compared to the music and video playing capabilities seen on the iPhone.

Personnally I think the iPod updates will be coming soon, I can't see them being released the same time as the iPhone for competition reasons.

However the only country to get the iPhone is the US and if a new iPod is released I can't see how it would hurt Apple sales (internationally) with a new iPod being sold the same time the iPhone is ment to be released. :apple:

This is too close to the iPhone launch if it is launched tomarrow it will still compete with the iPhone possibly even more because then all of the people that are getting impatient will buy one instead.

I have been needing a bigger iPod for a while because my 2GB black ipod nano is running out of space. I would really like this to happen but it is just to improbable. At a second though though the whole cannibalizing sales is not really true. If you think about it a lot of people like the touchscreen and iPods but not that much people want or can have the iPhone. So maybe it is like an alternative and maybe selling both will make more sales since not everyone can get the iPhone but wants something similar.

Well, with all the focus on the iPhone maybe they want to remind everyone where they live. A new Zune came out, large screen with crappy resolution, but with a large screen. If Apple is putting out a large screen iPod it will be touch screen most likely. Wouldn't that be a slap in the face for Zune and Microsoft.

I doubt it will be tomorrow though. Maybe at WWDC. It already is a special event. And without Leopard what else is there to talk about?

What new Zune? The limited edition pink? has the same size as all the others zunesno?

From Thinksecret Story:

Updated Since publication, reliable sources have added that there will not be an iPod update this week. We are currently investigating whether the initial tip may point to a 6G iPod roll-out earlier than expected (Q3/Q4 2007) or not.

Translated: Our reliable sources are other rumor sites, and their denial has led us to doubt the validity of this rumor. Doesn't stop us from printing first, double-checking later, though!

And quoting MacOSRumors is punishable by death. Just a heads up, Samuel Beckett.

I agree, the iPod and iPhone are two seperate lines, the only reason the iPod wouldn't be refreshed is if they're concentrating all their efforts on the phone.

But assuming they're similar in design then Apple did most of the R&D at the same time so it wouldn't be a huge deal to release it now.

And people don't seem to notice that Apple doesn't need a big news event. They could put it out on Apple.com and from word of mouth it would be on CNN in 4 hours.

Damn!!

I'm going to Israel for a month on a tour from 8th of July. I really need an iPod for that trip, but don't want to buy one soon-to-be outdated

Thats sick, i wanna try and get out to Israel. Another thing is see if a friend has an old one. I got a mini and a 4th Gen that way.

I think it would cannibalize the iPhone for one reason - the iPhone is a better iPod than the iPod is. So if you want the best iPod...

And that's exactly why Apple needs to get the iPod updated pretty soon after the iPhone comes out.

Even more so actually; you could have people right now who don't feel like buying an iPod because it seems low-tech compared to what the iPhone has, but they might not buy an iPhone because they don't or can't use it as a phone.

Man,

I'd love to believe this story, and I'd love to be proven wrong in a few hours, but I am just having to wave the ******** Flag with both arms on this one!
