i think that a senator (or any politician) should worry about its state/city/country issues then a product that is having issues. why not spend more time figuring out how to make the state better?

your telling me that a cavalier is a better quality car then a corolla?
they do make a few good cars here and there, but compared to everyone else (even other american cars, ie: ford. GM has a big step to take in competing with everyone)

You actually do not know about cars and yes I will take a cavalier instead of Corolla any day. In fact, I had a Cavalier and it drove for over 180k miles ..Did you ever see how cheap Japanese cars look ?

The letter is valid.

1) Apple needs to be held Accountable. And that goes to every naysayer in this thread who writes something as silly as "just return it if you don't like it." We all appreciate your "novel" idea. But this isn't about returning the phone or not - it's about Apple taking RESPONSIBILITY and ACCOUNTABILITY for a product they released

2) Who cares if the press conference was already called. The Senator is going on record as saying that Apple needs to address this issue. As of today, NO ONE in the Public Domain knows what will or won't be covered in that conference. The Senator is giving a blow-by-blow request on what he feels needs to be accomplished. It's great timing. It's the last ditch effort to appeal to Apple that whatever they have planned tomorrow to include some/all of his requests.

I hope people keep piling on, then maybe apple will give some of this arrogant crap a rest. Also nothing wrong with putting even more pressure on apple to be transparent, the more people are expecting apple to give a legit explanation and fix, the more outrage there will be if they don't, so it forces apples hand even more.

why doesn't he write a letter to every other business that messed up. people are just going too far with this and its getting ridiculous.

dear general motors:

please stop making cheap cars that people don't buy and then asking us (the government) for money and still travel first class or in your private jet or not take a pay cut/bonus cut when you can simply call someone over the phone and take a pay cut to help save your company.

ps. we should of let your company fail for your stupid mistake.

love,
new york senator.

+1 i agree

Steve Jobs needs to stop being so arrogant and admit that there is something wrong with the iPhone 4 instead of telling people that "it is not an issue" and to hold the phone in a particular way.

thats right. i know nothing about cars. you win. congrats.

I guess since Shumer, Obama, Pelosi and the rest of the democrats have no clue what to do about creating jobs, they might as well focus in on cell phones instead. Perhaps they can pass an iPhone stimulus bill.

...and it begins.....

Does anyone remember the days when people expressed their dissatisfaction with companies and products by not buying them, instead of hoping Big Government passes more laws and regulations against private individuals and companies?

Clearly a junior staffer in Mr. Schumer's office bought an iPhone and is upset about the reception, so he wrote a letter and asked his boss to sign it.

There's a river in Egypt you might be interested in visiting. :D

People in NYC are not this pathetic but speak their minds when they have to. At least someone use their political power to voice our concerns since Apple didn't have answers to our calls or complaints. There good and bad people everywhere not just in NYC !

So in other words, yes people in NY are this pathetic. Maybe if this is such a big deal in NY the people need to stand up for themselves and speak with their wallet. Long return lines at Apple stores will certainly do a better job of getting the message across. This isn't something you go whining to your senator about, grow a backbone and walk over to the Apple store and say it doesn't work and I want my money back simple as that. This isn't remotely a consumer protection issue.

That may be the case, but you'd think that out of his countless staffers one or two would say "hey, they are holding a presser on Friday. We don't need to release this."

Dollars to donuts one of his staffers is probably the one with the problem and wrote the letter, which he signed like any good senator (of any party) in trying to make the little people think they care.

At least the basic analysis is correct and the letter calls them out for trying to claim the bars are the problem and not hardware. It could have been worse.

Some staffer who's been doing the grip of death too much in meetings got his boss to sign a letter he drafted. Either that or blatant publicity grab.

Either way it's hilarious and absurd.

I've had a couple of hard drives fail recently. I guess i should write my congressmen.

and someone sees my point that the OP doesn't.

Damn that's a good lookin' cookie....where do I get one of those? Or a dozen?

don't know but they look bite size. maybe chop them up and throw them in ice cream :D

Awesome. Not nearly enough ego and argument here lately. Let's bicker about cars too.

Also, sorry to hear about the Cavalier.

Schumer can put his "boot on the neck" of Apple to get consumers a $30 bumper and people think he's a hero? Why do you think this was an OPEN letter and not a regular one?

He should be working on a 3 trillion dollar bumper for the US economy instead of being a publicity hound. Soon we will have Gloria Allred, Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Jeffrey Feiger and the TelePrompTer In Chief all "fighting" on our behalf and for camera time!
