So many AirPods have been lost in New York City subway tracks in recent months that the MTA is considering initiating a public service announcement urging commuters to refrain from taking AirPods on or off while entering or exiting trains, a spokesperson for the transit agency told The Wall Street Journal.

Ashley Mayer recovered her AirPods with a broom and duct tape

The PSA would hopefully alleviate the delays caused by the numerous AirPods that fall between the cracks each day:While the location of AirPods can be tracked using the Find My iPhone app, the earphones often become trapped in hard-to-reach places due to their small size. This led The Wall Street Journal to highlight the extravagant measures that some customers have taken to recover their lost AirPods:In an extreme case, well-known Apple analyst Gene Munster admitted that he has apparently lost 10 pairs of AirPods.

Apple charges $69 for a replacement AirPod in the United States, totaling $138 for a pair. Replacement charging cases are also available for $59, while the wireless AirPods charging case is sold separately for $79.

That is why Powerbeats Pro much superior in securing the “pods” from risk of falling with its ear hook while using it on the go or exercising. :)

If only they could put some kind of cable on them. Would solve the issue. Could even have the cable connect to the iPhone and power them. That would be some innovation.
A cable between the two sides is fully sufficient, combined with a magnet to hold the two ends together when not in your ears, aka, Beats X. It's pretty hard to loose those kind of Bluetooth earphones, largely only happens when you take off a scarf or a T-shirt.

To be honest with you, I also agree that the Powerbeats Pro could be a lot louder, especially at that price point. My pops that still uses the classic EarPods laughed at me stating that his pods were louder after he tried on my Pro's...………….Unfortunately, he was right.
Yeah, it’s a real piss take. Luckily modern music is incredibly loud. Phone calls are sometimes problematic.

Just got back from 7 days in Manhattan. I've never seen that many Airpods in my life. Without fail - 1 in every 10 people had them passing by me. It was pretty amazing. I live in Vancouver Canada where I see maybe 10 - 20 pairs in an entire day. In NYC I was seeing that many every few minutes...
I live in Croatia and see that many in a year:)

...wait, ten pairs? Extreme is not the word I would use. Dummkopf! Gene Munster must be the Sgt Shultz of AirPod users.

I live in NYC and bought a pair of AirPods soon after they were released. So many people approached me on the subway or walking down the street to ask questions about them. I guess they all bought a pair because they truly are everywhere here.

I couldnt wear single earpieces like these. I have lose track of BT earpieces over the years. Being able to pull them out at a moment's notice without having to hold them is a big deal.

I love my LG Tonactiv headphones that sit on the neck and the headphones reel into the unit so you cant lose them. Plus the speakers located in the unit right below the ears and the much longer battery life (I usually have about 40% charge at the end of my 12 hour shift) make these my choice. I have had the same ones for about 3 years now.

Apple literally makes a killing on these things. Not only will they make a profit the 2 you originally purchase but all the subsequent ones you have to buy because you lost them. Genius product by Apple.

Loose = not firmly or tightly fixed in place; detached or able to be detached.
Lose = be deprived of or cease to have or retain (something).

I can't believe that the train is delayed for these items. Yeah that sucks you lose an earpod, but be careful with items that are of value to you. I don't get the cavalier attitude have w/ items that cost a lot of money to them and then they freak out or get upset when they lose or damage it. I get if it was caused by an outside force, but if it is the users fault that should not delay the subway system. seems kind of foolish.

The humble pigeon can fly home all on its own. Clearly some kind of PigeonPods are the future.

Did you miss the part where I was making a joke? ;)

There's a reason headphones have cables. Apple invented something nobody wanted.
Wait, what? They sell millions and can't keep them in stock... Yeah, nobody wanted them.

Mine have lasted many torrential rain storms and a trip through the washing machine without any issues. Just really bad battery life. But they are two years old now.
dropped one in the toilet and also mistakenly ran it through a full wash and dryer cycle. Still works like new. Original model.

I simply don't understand this at all.
...
The wastefulness and sheer stupidity of people never ceases to amaze me.

Some people have too much money, and can't be asked to care about things that cost nothing to them.
Normal folks won't lose their expensive bluetooth headphones.
