Apple literally makes a killing on these things. Not only will they make a profit the 2 you originally purchase but all the subsequent ones you have to buy because you lost them. Genius product by Apple.

It's bad enough that they have the shortest lifespan of any Apple product. According to testimonies, the unreplaceable batteries are crapping out in 15–18 months.

That's why my $19.99 generic airbuds are so much better. You lose it and don't risk your life to retrieve them, just pick up another pack at the convenience store.

And in the process, you miss out on the benefits of using Airpods. After all these years, I find I can no longer tolerate the feel of wires around my neck. That’s how badly Airpods have spoiled me.

That said, my Airpods have yet to fall out of my ears. I will take my chances.

I drop them getting them out of the case or knocking them out but have NEVER had one fall out of my ear.

Anyone else?

I know it does depend on ear shape.

Apple’s earbuds have always been ridiculously large for my ears. They are uncomfortable and I’ve only ever had the wired version. I have no idea how people run and exercise in these things without them falling out, I have trouble just walking down the street.

Lost 10 pairs of airpods? At what point do you say...”hmmm, this isn’t working for me and it might be time to try something else?”

So the good news is that you only have to buy one if you lose one. If you lose both it's still a little bit cheaper because you don't need a new charging case.

I personally definitely won't buy any AirPods - not because I will lose them, but because I would constantly fear that I lose them. Got some good wireless headphones instead, with noise isolation and possibly better sound. Yes, they are a lot bigger.

Seeing the photo: Can you put AirPods in the washing machine or dish washer (and get them out in working condition)?

Both my AirPods have been washed, both still work perfectly 3 years after purchase, they're pretty tough.

Loose = not firmly or tightly fixed in place; detached or able to be detached.
Lose = be deprived of or cease to have or retain (something).
soo true. this nonsense will have a huge impact in environment as well. useless plastic landfill. (but, hey, Apple is supporting climate change so, its okey for them to do landfill).

What nonsense are you referring to? Are you saying Apple is responsible because people lose their airpods?

Look, I don’t even have my phone out on the subway because I’m paranoid about dropping it on the track, lol. If I drop an Airpod, the blame falls on me and only on me.

But the beautiful thing is, there is a huge headphone market and people can choose other options if they have clumsy hands taking AirPods in and out.
I'm not defending clumsy AirPods users. I'm just surprised that it doesn't happen more often since everyone stares at their phones and listens to music while they wait for their train.

nope..i am talking about nonsense apple has in their eco system, by not letting people to repair or reuse components and designing something which you loose easily. how much material you can save, if they let you change one faulty key in keyboard rather than changing the whole bottom piece. did you understand this nonsense now?

You painted a broad stroke with all Apple products going from airpods, which it's the users' responsibility to keep safe, to keyboards.

Airpods, imo, are not lost easily. With the millions and millions sold and the NYC subway system being what it is, the chances of losing your airpods and not recovering them are higher than probably other places, such as a bus, boat, airline terminal etc. That doesn't equate to a product "lost easily".

And as far as repair or reuse, how many other vendors of headphones approximately the same size can be easily reused or repaired?

I was talking about their though process in designing eco system. If you don't get it it's fine.

It's always shocking living in Tokyo seeing how incredibly awful American public transportation is.

Given the darkened tracks where they drop
Try using a flashlight?

Transit workers use a pole that extends to about 8 feet
Try going onto the track and manually retrieve them (and all other garbage, debris, items, etc) after the last train has left and you have off hours for maintenance to do exactly this sort of thing?

She used the contraption to nab the AirPod from the tracks
Can I ask how many people die in this kind of environment every year? Because in Tokyo a person or any item unauthorized person doing something like this would prompt an emergency shutdown probably lasting about 5 minutes while a half dozen station monitors rush over get this crazy person away from the tracks and tell him they will retrieve it that night once operations stop and keep it in the "Lost-and-Found" and he can come back to pick it up the following day.

Just got back from 7 days in Manhattan. I've never seen that many Airpods in my life. Without fail - 1 in every 10 people had them passing by me. It was pretty amazing. I live in Vancouver Canada where I see maybe 10 - 20 pairs in an entire day. In NYC I was seeing that many every few minutes...

Come to SF, it's more like 1 out of every 3 people have AirPods. Especially during the morning and evening commutes on BART and the Muni.

The stereotypical tech trends are a real thing. You'll also see tons of Teslas, Allbirds (those are starting to decline in popularity though), Chase Sapphire Reserve cards in restaurants, etc.

I should head to the Philly subway with a long broomstick and duct tape, I may find 10-15 1/2 pairs of Pods.
I get how they fall out trust me (the left pod just simply won't stay in my ear - goofy earhole!), if I didn't find these ear bud tips online, I would have sold the AirPods a while ago. The string may look dumb, don't care...it's added convenience to take them out and hang around my neck:)

Where I am from, this is called a “Stupid Tax”. If I do something stupid, I pay a price for it. I pay my fair share of this tax...

Had a lady in a parking lot run over one of my EarPods I was so mad I ran after her but she was long gone
