Once you've installed NinjaKit go to http://isebaro.com/viewtube/
click on the Viewtube icon at the top, a window will open then install the script - that's it.
So, Ninjakit is just a plugin..? Anyway, NinjaKit.safariextz is what I got and placed it at Safari extensions. So is Viewtube supposed to install by itself when I click the icon..? At least having done the previously mentioned things Youtube didn't start working yet... (I also thought I'd need Tampermonkey and that seems to be in place)

I didn't know Tampermonkey still worked? NinjaKit does the same job so you only need one script plugin - only have it enabled in prefs.
Viewtube will install itself.
As you are on a G5 though Roccat is the easiest route - simple click and play.

Oh that's it - even though I had Ninjakit at the extensions in Finder, it hadn't installed in prefs..! Now I just dragged it there! Will see now...
[doublepost=1506893958][/doublepost]So, am I supposed to disable Clicktoplugin too? In any case Youtube didn't work with both of them on so I went and disabled CTP... and YT started working..! But is it working because of Ninjakit and not just because CTP was off..?! Is Ninjakit supposed to do everything that CTP does?
[doublepost=1506894355][/doublepost]Oh and maybe Tampermonkey doesn't work, I just thought I read somewhere I'd need that too... (yes I disabled it and will remove it too, I suppose)

Hmm, it's interesting that CorePlayer didn't work in your tests, since I had been working on a version of youtube-dl that supported CorePlayer as a streaming client, that is with support for instant video (no need to wait for the whole file to download) and buffering (you can pause, forward, and rewind to any point in the video that has already been buffered).

So far it has handled every video thrown at it; pretty much all videos on YouTube are encoded as an H.264/AAC stream.

Coreplayer was my obvious first choice but wouldn't play for me.
There's still problems re Youtube that I can only but down to some kind of regional difference - videos that play for others but not me and I try across various systems etc.

Look forward to seeing your solution.

You do know that's what Mplayer provides too?

Yes, I'm aware it can stream video too.

I wasn't planning to release it. I just worked on it for personal use, and stumbling across someone doing something similar, I thought it would be good to note that it was possible. I may consider pushing it out sometime in the future, though.

If you did release it, I'm sure it would interest and attract attention for use from a great number of ppc users here.

I've put together some scripts, a TenFourFoxBox,

Ive been lurking here for a bit getting my PPC mac up and running and just had to join to thank you for putting this together. Its works AWESOME on my duel G5 running Tiger. Here is some 1080 action. Whats holding me back now more then anything is my adsl line. If I start the video then hit SPACE and let it buffer for up a bit is plays mint.

As I mentioned in a previous post, I sucessfully installed your scripts under Leopard on at least two AluPowerBooks, but not suceeded on a Tiger install.
I plan to try again in a day or two, which I guess could well raise a few additional queries. Firstly, are there any changes of note that I should be aware of to the download file or instructions you gave in the Feb 7th post?
Cheers!

Damn Youtube! I installed the player last week on my new TiBook and it was all working fine - now it's throwing up errors - I need to look at the whole lot again :/

Actually, updating youtube-dl cured most of the issues, however Youtube is steadily putting more and more webm files in place which mplayer cant handle, neither can VLC (on Tiger) nor Coreplayer, Quicktime can but with the penalty of low efficiency.

Any chance of sharing the know-how on this? It'd be good to have alternatives to the current solutions.

Stupid question: How do I update youtube-dl? When i put "youtube-dl -U" in the terminal it says "-bash: youtube-dl: command not found" -> are there any prerequisites? Path variables for example

@Dronecatcher I've resurrected this thread to share my experiences with mViewX, 720p content and my G4 Mac Mini. :)

Even with mViewX, many 720p MP4s still require more horsepower than the Mini can provide (and I suspect it's a case of poor encoding) but I've also enjoyed successes with many others.

This one plays well in both windowed and full screen modes.

Interestingly, my HD iPlayer (720p) rips are a cinch for the Mini - in full screen or windowed.

Out of the four iPlayer videos that I tried, there was only one where the Mini struggled in full screen and it had to be played in a windowed mode.

What's the format/codec used for the iPlayer files, do you know? If you open in QuickTime and open the Movie Inspector window you should be able to see.

Yes, there's lots of factors on adequate hardware for playback - not just CPU speed, L2/L3 cache, bus and memory bandwidth etc. Between them, I find CorePlayer, XBMC and MPlayer have it covered for 720P on G4s.

I'll try CorePlayer and XBMC with the other 720p MP4's that were unplayable and see what happens.

Here's the details from Movie Inspector for the iPlayer videos.

I've tried CorePlayer and XBMC on the Mini with the troublesome MP4's. One was still unplayable in terms of a consistent frame rate and I've abandoned all hope with that one G4 wise. Another and worked and played at full speed but with glitches to the video image.

Which was a shame because other moments of the playback looked superb:

Another troublesome MP4 finally played thanks for CorePlayer but with similar glitches and also major struggles with the A/V sync:

XBMC couldn't cope with it either. The sluggishness was so great that Tiger struggled to take these screenshots.

Even with an SD video, CorePlayer exhibited glitches and I suspect that this is due to problems with decoding H264. See the affected area on the right hand side of the image?

This later frame is free of problems.

All in all, I'm delighted with what the Mini can pull off and this post is to share info about my experiences and certainly not to complain. Some 720p videos will work for me and some will not. :)
