All in all, I'm delighted with what the Mini can pull off and this post is to share info about my experiences and certainly not to complain. Some 720p videos will work for me and some will not

Yes, the glitches in CorePlayer I've come across many times, which I think might be caused by the profile the h264 is encoded with - that's why it's good to have a number of playback options.
I've found for example, the newer MPlayer that @Lastic bundles with SMTube is better at playing glitchy videos than older versions.

@Dronecatcher I've resurrected this thread to share my experiences with mViewX, 720p content and my G4 Mac Mini. :)

Even with mViewX, many 720p MP4s still require more horsepower than the Mini can provide (and I suspect it's a case of poor encoding) but I've also enjoyed successes with many others.

This one plays well in both windowed and full screen modes.

Interestingly, my HD iPlayer (720p) rips are a cinch for the Mini - in full screen or windowed.

Out of the four iPlayer videos that I tried, there was only one where the Mini struggled in full screen and it had to be played in a windowed mode.

I'm in the UK as well, how did you get the iplayer files - did you download them first? When I go on the iPlayer site the links to download programmes always seem to be 'greyed out'. I've seen a iPlayer downloader tool for Linux that might help me.

Should the TonVidKit youtube browser still work? When I open it there's a google api error.

Those were obtained years and years ago using the command line Get iPlayer program on Windows XP.

Since then I've switched to Get iPlayer Automator for Mac and at one stage, occasionally an older release of the Terminal based version for a Snow Leopard MacBook that couldn't run the Automator.

If I know or suspect that a programme will not appear on iPlayer, I'll record it using my PVRs.

Have you taken down the Dropbox links? I can't see them.

I'm trying to get Youtube on a 466 Mhz iBook G3 Clamshell. Would be great to get some tips that have been tested and work on a G3 in 2020.

The original post is from 2017, likely the G has broken whatever Dronecatcher's method was. PPMC7 is likely going to be your best bet for download and playback, PPMC7 can also convert into something your 20 year old machine can play.

I have a clamshell as well, I recommend converting to 240p MPEG-1 so you can keep the audio quality the same but have a playable video.

Also @Dronecatcher, awesome work on PowerPC Liberation, It's so interesting to see what you've done.

@mectojic As others have suggested, Youtube has changed so much since 2017, the 3gp video files are no longer produced on the site, so low end viewing is unavailable as it used to be.

However, I do use a script and TenFourFoxBox that utilises PPCMC as it's 'engine' - this is quicker and plays with much greater efficiency than PPCMC alone for streaming - at least it does on my Powerbook.

I will try to test this today on my G3 iMac and if it works make it available - currently PPCMC as is will allow you to download the videos and convert them for easy playback on your G3.

Hi all!

I just installed PPC Media Center but since I installed a very recent python 3.8 from brew I did not want it to ruin my python installation and skipped the python install.

This is now causing PPC Media center to complain at start about a missing Python.mpkg and crash...Is there anything I can do to fix it without runing my brew python installation?

Thanks!

PPCMC7 contains its own internal python that cant interfere with your system:
