Order

I placed an order this morning as a new customer, after trying forever i got though. my order is still showing as processing, after calling o2 it seems all the credit checking is been done which is taking time, is there anyone else who has yet to get a conf email and ordered this morning? Worried i wont get it on the 11th even though o2 said i will. i didnt trust the guy on the phone!

What a farce, 200,000 new customers can order one, and loyal "early adopters" who are trying for hours can't even get one!

I'm going to get one on Friday morning from my local O2 store. I'm sure that Apple/O2 didn't put aside special versions of the iPhone for "upgrades", they'll all be the same. So, I should be able to switch SIMs as I would with the delivered one.

The "online only" thing has to be just a way of trying to free up some space/stock in the stores on Friday.

I asked in a shop today, and they said they aren't doing upgrades in store, you have to do it online.

Ordered one this afternoon just before sold out, and didn't receive any confirmation email.

How did you check your order online?

Jesus... some of you need to get a little bit of perspective here. It's just a gadget. If the most horrible thing to happen to you for a while is that you can't get your gadget on release day, then you are lucky.

Patience is a virtue. You know what beethoven said? "Recommend virtue to your children; it alone, not money, can make them happy. I speak from experience"

Double plus awesome

Awesome, O2 have inexplicably just canceled my order.

Now I just need it to be raining on Friday.

Maybe the staff will put up some obstacles in front of the door, a rope net followed by a freeking croc filled moat to navigate.

Probably all being trained for 20 seconds on the iphone, but have to complete a 5 year course on "effective machete use in a store environment" as part of their make the iphone experience as crap as you can plan.

From leaked O2 ops manual:

Invite people to register interest, harness demand
Unleash demand with a huge launch
Make website crash
Make users try repeatedly to get an order accepted
Send 14 non functioning order codes
Finally accept order
Wait a while (go out, stretch legs, have fag)
Cancel it
Go round to customers house, drink their beer, complain that beer is warm
Invite customer round very very early on Friday morning
Sharpen Machete, recharge cattle prod
.....

Anyone know what this means?

Inclusive minutes can be used for calls to standard UK landlines (starting 01, 02 or 03) and all UK network mobiles. It excludes calls to non-geographic numbers (starting 05, 08), 07744 and 07755 numbers and premium rate (09) numbers. Please note that from 30th September 2008 the numbers that form part of your inclusive minutes allowance will change.

Please be quiet.

Well said. I'd have liked to get it Friday by courier with no order hassle, but since it's not to be I'll not panic, especially since it seems they don't have the white yet. My original phone will get 2.0 on Friday hopefully and I'll get to play with most of the new features anyway.

After the launch fiasco with O2 (where is everyone? Oh, we have a large amount of stock still available) I'm not surprised they underestimated the demand for the 3G. The "bad" publicity from this is just going to send even more people into the stores on Friday to try and get one of the "elusive" iPhone 3Gs, which probably means they'll get another round in the newspapers over the weekend.

I won't be surprised if inventory is more constrained this time round considering the number of extra territories it is launching in, but I'm pretty sure in a couple of weeks I'll walk straight into the O2 shop and pick up my white 3G. Until then, so what?

Again, how did you know O2 have cancelled your order? As I can't see anywhere can track my order.

Actually you are both missing the point, whilst I agree with your sentiment, the fact is that it appears to any existing UK iPhone customer here, that not one has actually managed to secure a 3G iPhone today using the O2 site. Therefore that has nothing to do with demand, that is allocation of stock by O2 to new connections over existing customers!

How do you know? There have only been a handful of people here that claim to have made a successful purchase, some exisiting, some non existing customers of O2.
I'm a non O2 user, and I wasn't able to make a purchase, that was from trying at 8am this morning. The only reason it seems like it's current iphone users who are missing out is because that is the majority of people trying to get one....this is a Mac site, so obviously there are more iPhone users here than non-iphone users that are posting in the iPhone sections

They are on SERIOUSLY dodgy ground if they're going to be refusing to permit existing customers to upgrade in-store on friday.

I literally shudder to think about the hysterical mobs shouting and bitching and getting escorted from the stores if they don't get an upgrade.

Seriously, this is going to make the news in a BAD BAD way...

Heads up O2 - Don't FFS be so utterly stupid as to stop existing customers from upgrading in-store.

Im not missing the point. Consumers act like spoiled brats.

It is all a matter of perspective, I am sure your cage would be rattled if an employer, prospective house-buyer, etc etc made a commitment and failed to deliver, preferring to treat a new employee or 1st-time buyer with preference over you.

And remarkably naive to make a statement like "Consumers act like spoiled brats", consumers react to brand promises - simple as that! Consumers surely are only ever spoilt if they feel begrudged after being over-looked on a free deal!?!

Not sure what you mean by "How do you know?" However, lets take it to a vote, are there ANY existing iPhone O2 users today with a confirmation order email in their inbox and reflected under "My Orders" in their O2 billing portal? I suspect not, but more than happy to be proved wrong:)

Yes, this is how it's played out for me, exactly the same - my order says 'in progress' - how is that useful? - but after a call I've been reassured that it WILL be delivered friday.

And to those crying for rationality and calm, try to understand - this is ENJOYABLE. It's FUN. Read 'Games People Play' by Eric Berne. People don't WANT to calm down, they want to feel emotional/excited...

any chance on friday?

So to make things clear....if I am o2 customer and I never had an iPhone before I should get one on Friday, if I will be fast enough of course?
I was trying today with o2 website...i get manage to get some code to be sent out to my mobile, but then i couldnt find any place to put this code to proceed with checkout. Then you all know rest of the story...iPhones sold out etc.
:confused::confused::confused:

OK, so it doesn't really matter, but if they don't let me get one on Friday I'm going to kick up one hell of a fuss. Because I care? Not so much...more because it's hella fun :D

They emailed me.

Without wishing to get into a row or anything, I would like to point out that though I would like to live in a state of complete rational well-being, and only really care about life and death matters, food clothes and shelter etc. I am on a mac dedicated website, posting in an iphone discussion forum, specifically about it's release, today.

There is zero chance of me being rational about this. If I was then I wouldn't actually be posting rants about machete wielding O2 staff, reading this, or even online.

I appreciate that there are much worse things in life than not getting my iphone, cancer & genocide spring to mind. But I am not going to roam the forum's of the internet chastising anyone with an opinion that doesn't relate to something as serious as those for being spoiled brats, or somehow trivial.

If you like we could all start posting about great world issues here, maybe a little something about global warming, the war on terror, or how many of my patients died at work today.

This is where I come to spaz out about trivial crap.

I now I am sad. Let me be.

Existing user, managed to order

I'm an existing iPhone user and managed to finally order the upgrade at 12:50pm today.

I've had 3 different confirmation emails, and my order shows online as 'In Progress'. I can also tell from my credit card that they have authorised the payment.

None of this actually guarantees I'll get the phone on Friday morning though!

What I mean is, how do you know any numbers of any successful orders placed for non-iphone users and current iphone users.
How do you know the balance between non-iphone users and iphone users that come to this site? How can you make a judgement that new iphone customers are being given preferential treatment? You dont know any numbers to any of these questions, but are quick to make a judgement that you are being unfairly treated.
