Yeah like i mentioned before, looks like a lot of people have a hard on for these things.. :D

And just like that these things are now gone on newegg site.

How long do you guys think until intel releases something bigger? Any rumors...
Can you backup an ssd to an hdd drive?:apple:

The Intel Postville refresh is around mid 2010, expect a 300GB SSD by then. After that, it's new die and technology.

wowowowow 2 price raises within 24 hours? They are really taking advantage of the demand for these things.

Yes it's gone again, I am late again...

Arrh!!!...I missed AGAIN!!!! I am so mad at myself...I was in class that time..lol
It's unbelievable how fast these things sell...i mean...who said we are in RECESSION???

Nah...I know it's just supply and demand...but increase the price by $50 in less than 2 days? Seriously...not so great business practice...
but in the other hand...it makes sense since it has to create a price difference in order to push the remaining 1st Gen stock...

However...as a consumer, I would love the drive to be in stock and return to its original price now...you know...i mean...RIGHT NOW!!!...:p

That drive is amazing, I saw it in true action today and on a MBP 13" 2.26 it smoked my octo-core 2.8 MP.

It sucks that they're insisting on raising the prices.

ughhh i was on notification email from newegg, got the email, went on maybe 30 minutes later to find out of stock and a $30 price increase. thats pretty crappy of them.

Finally managed to get mine; received the notification email to my iPhone while I was napping, and jumped out of my bed to get the order placed. When I checked the page after I completed the payment and everything, they were already gone...

\begin off topic economics rant

I'm amazed at all the complaining about raising prices.

Think about it - you can't even keep the things in stock they're selling so fast, of COURSE you should raise the price. It's basic supply and demand for those of you raised in our NEA controlled socialist schools.

Raising prices provides more profit & more motivation to rapidly improve them as the market clearly wants this technology. In the long run we all win, which is what the market is supposed to do.

I'm going to get one of the 160's, man are they hard to catch in stock however.

Right on! Though if I were in the market for one (I caught the 160GB earlier last week for $400), I would definitely have some choice words for these price hikes. It's one thing to know the economic principles of supply and demand intellectually, but another for your heart to accept that you're paying above and beyond the MSRP :)

I'm certainly glad to see such pent up demand for these drives though. I'm all for letting the platter based hard disks becoming obsolete.

I'm not defending the resellers, but let's be fair, the press release quoted prices of $225 and $440 are the bulk prices given to companies. It's not the MSRP.

Correct. If you are selling something that is selling like hotcakes and you can't keep stock, you're priced too low for the demand. You have to raise prices then.

Now, the 160GB doesn't look as much as a "must have", being priced at around $500-$550 in some places (Newegg and Amazon). Comparing to the ~$600 price of the G1 160GB, it's not so worth it now.

You are right...that it is 'reasonable' move to raise the price if I were Newegg.
It is just basic 'Invisible Hand' mechanism...it is quite obvious that the original price listed at $229 at Newegg is way below equilibrium... and man these drives are so inelastic that they still sold out in a blink at $279.

However, as a consumer, you always want the best for the cheapest...that's the beauty of Supply and Demand regulation.:)

I wonder what's the different between the:

SSDSA2MH080G2R5 and the SSDSA2MH080G2C1

C1 is is one individual unit, R5 is 5 units.

WRONG! I am not sure you are kidding him/her or not..

SSDSA2MH080G2R5 is the retail package that include everything in C1 (SSD and 9.5mm spacer) PLUS a nice retail box and installation kit.
From Intel: "Retail box includes installation kit that contains: 3.5" desktop drive bay adapter to 2.5" SSD adapter bracket, screws, installation guide, and warranty documentation"

SSDSA2MH080G2C1 is just the SSD (w/ 9.5mm spacer) in a brown 'OEM' box.

There is another model:
SSDSA2MH080G201 is the OEM SSD in 7.0mm thickness only (w/o the 9.5 spacer)

Check out the link from intel:

What makes these things hard to get is that's there's only like 4 places in the whole country you get them from. There's newegg, amazon, mwave, buy.com, and i dont know which other stores sell 'em.

Not much competition so they can jack the price up.

You are right that there are indeed not much retailer selling those now.

I know Zipzoomfly 'will' carry them as well...and my local Fry's say they 'Should' have them 'soon'...
and if you are a 'dare devil'..you can try your luck on ebay.
