Maybe they're just doing this so they can properly stock up. Then the prices will come down... I'm guess probably a couple weeks.
I'm glad I was a very early adopter!

if you browse under Intel SSD there are 2 different versions of the 80GB G2, one is $499 another is $599. This has to be some sort of joke.
You are right...that it is 'reasonable' move to raise the price if I were Newegg.
It is just basic 'Invisible Hand' mechanism...it is quite obvious that the original price listed at $229 at Newegg is way below equilibrium... and man these drives are so inelastic that they still sold out in a blink at $279.
However, as a consumer, you always want the best for the cheapest...that's the beauty of Supply and Demand regulation.
WRONG! I am not sure you are kidding him/her or not..
SSDSA2MH080G2R5 is the retail package that include everything in C1 (SSD and 9.5mm spacer) PLUS a nice retail box and installation kit.
From Intel: "Retail box includes installation kit that contains: 3.5" desktop drive bay adapter to 2.5" SSD adapter bracket, screws, installation guide, and warranty documentation"
SSDSA2MH080G2C1 is just the SSD (w/ 9.5mm spacer) in a brown 'OEM' box.
There is another model:
SSDSA2MH080G201 is the OEM SSD in 7.0mm thickness only (w/o the 9.5 spacer)

I got in at $249 for the 80GB, but if anyone is willing to pay me $499 then I will sell it immediately. It is being delivered tomorrow![]()
I bought OCZ Vertex 120gb, and i'm happy!

Wow $998 for the 160gb, indeed that is quite a price - I can't imagine they will sell hardly ANY at that price - which tells me they have only a few and are not expecting stock anytime soon.
can you please edit your link as it doesn't work

It's 9.5mm. Although you won't have issues with it being 7mm. You don't need to remove the spacer. With or without the spacer, the drive will hold in place.
Well guys look on the brighter side, at least they won't be running out of them now.![]()

Absolutely scumbag move by Newegg to jack up the prices like that. I'll find somewhere else to do my shopping.
When I installed mine w. the spacer, it actually was a hair too thick. It wouldn't allow for the bottom to fit truly flush on the SSD side. Even though the screws were tight running my finger along that edge, I could feel it not being totally right and could see a wee misalignment.
Removed the spacer and it fit like a charm. Only problem was finding the right size screws to reinstall the cover w.o. the spacer.
I ordered the $269 80GB G2 from Amazon yesterday. It's backordered for a week or two. Better that than the garbage that Newegg was trying to pull.
Amazon got it right, take backorders and queue them up.
Thanks for the info.
So I should remove the spacer before I proceed right? You mentioned finding the right size screws. You mean I have to find different screws to reinstall the cover other than those come with the MBP?
Have you guys tried mwave.com? I ordered mine yesterday for $249 (80GB). It was SUPPOSED to deliver today but UPS was *kind* enough to *left behind* my package at the facility (they said they forgot to load my package onto the plane..oh well). Should be getting it tomorrow if it was not drop out the plane this time....lol![]()
In other news, I did get this statement from Intel:
Intel has not raised prices on the 34nm G2 product to distributors who sell to e-tailers such as Newegg, since our launch.
Cool article.
I, amongst many of my friends, sent newegg quite a few emails stating our outrage over such an evil tactic.
edit: from that article;
