Can't be

I generally use my smart phone to check email - don't have to lift the heavy iPad just to check emails. Browsing the Web - the 11" MacBook Air wakes up instantaneously and provides more functional web browsing at mere additional .33 kg.
The fact remains that there has been no point in using the iPad - except novelty.[...]

Well, IF this is true. It's a deal breaker for me. APPLE, IF you're going to put a camera into a 5,6,7, or $800 device, don't put a toy camera in it. 1MP is NOT enough. I bought the iPod Touch with the crappy cam but I won't get this one.
This time around there is competition, and not crappy competition, real competition. Please Apple, don't lay a turd on the back camera.
Hey SJ, Get well soon.![]()
my conclusion for this discussion:
Taking photos with iPad just doesn't work. If you're expecting in doing that, then you are wrong, and when you realize, you will not be using it at all for that purpose.
1: iPad needs a camera for apps.
0: iPad doesn't need high quality camera for photography.
1: iPhone 4 does need a good camera.
I'm a filmmaker and blogger, so I would definitely be taking photos and videos on my iPad. In fact, I'd probably begin filming, editing and publishing all-in-one if Apple releases an iOS compatible iMovie app. Sorry if I'm wrong, but that's just how I'll do it.

1MP is fine for Facebook photos as a final output file size, but you wouldn't want to acquire an image that way. Oversampling is your friend.Megapixels are overrated. 1 MP ≈ 1024x768. So the photos you'll likely catch is the occasional ones for publishing on Facebook and the web. And then 1 MP is more than enough for at least my needs.
I wish it was already here!
Last weekend I sold my iPad, for 90% of it's purchase value.
So the iPad2 is definitely going to be bought by me.
The camera doesn't have to be a high quality one, I have a Sony Nex 3 with 2 different lenses for my photo and video stuff, but I would love to Skype or Facetime with the iPad2.
I'm moving from the Netherlands to Curaçao (Caribbean Island part of The Kingdom of The Netherlands) this June and keeping in touch with friends and family, with freedom in communicating, is very welcome.
I can already see myself walking around the house while Skype's running on my iPad.![]()
It's not about how many pixels a camera has for christ sake.
A decent quality 1 MP sensor is perfectly adequate in most cases. Assuming there will be a 1 MP rear-facing camera in the next iPad, it will be HD video. I'm more interested in pixel size, sensor size, quality of the lens, etc. A 2 or 3 MP HD CMOS sensor would be cost prohibitive and overkill at this stage of the game.
I can think of many uses for one. In addition to bar code scanning, VR apps, etc. - imagine the usefulness in healthcare, for example. iPads are currently being field tested in the hospital where I work. Eventually, with a rear facing camera (a la face time), virtual assessments can be done. If one has a complicated/confusing case, point it at your client and send the live video quickly to another specialist for his/her impression. The iPad has the potential to help save lives.
FYI - take a look at this article regarding video sensors.
