Is this a typo? It sounds like this was referring to the space grey Apple Watch, which is blacker than the space grey currently used on the phone.

Has to be a typo in the article.

Space Gray is the aluminum watch. Space Black is the coated stainless steel. I'm guessing the phone will look like the sport version watch which is aluminum and darker than my space gray phone.

You know what's the worst part? That you are absolutely right. Jony Ive changed the pronunciation of aluminum to a whole new level.
The rest of the world* knows how to pronounce and spell "aluminium".

I just find it interesting that the iPhone 5 was black, then made into "space gray" for the 5S... And now that's just reverted this time around. #innovation

You could spend all day pointing out things like this. Technology goes in waves. Social trends are the same way.

But where is my liquidmetal?
Here it is!

They shouldn't change space grey..that's the perfect balance already.I hate anything similar to that ugly slate iPhone 5.
But more vibrant gold is welcome as I find the current gold on iphone 6 pale and weak.

I didn't think that there were that many significant updates rumoured to be coming to the 6s. Now I'm getting a bit excited!

So they don't mind making the iPhone a lil' bit thicker to accomodate some gimmicky features they could put in the iphone 7, BUT they would die if they had to make it thicker to put a bigger battery inside it, which is what 99% of iphone user (not the brick-sized 6+) want. i really think Apple should review their priorities when designing a new iphone.

I bet the Space Grey 6s & 6s Plus will match a shade of the New MacBook

That's an interesting image. I had no idea how much the antenna lines stood out on this iPhone 6 color! Also, I prefer the "darker" shade of space gray. I wonder why they changed it from the iPhone 5s to the iPhone 6?

.15 mm = .0059 in

I am a machinist. A sheet of paper can be .003-.005 inches thick. If you can fit a piece of paper between your current iPhone 6 and your current case, you will be fine.

For me it is same old marketing trick: they could name it Plutonium 244 and whole bunch of zealots would argue, that only Apple could do that and aluminium 7000 "it is so 2014", because it doesn't glow in the dark. ;)

Actually, it reminds me of my conversation with Berlin Apple Store employee year or two ago:

- "Hi, I need a new iPhone for our new employee. So the iPhone 5C is more affordable version of iPhone 5, right?"
- "No, listen: it is build of high quality polycarbonate and defines a whole new iPhone category for the customers, who would love to have more colour options on their iPhones"
- "So it means, the iPhone 5C is actually an iPhone 5, but posh plastic, right?"
- "No, it is high quality polycarbonate material"
- "Exactly. And in other words, it means plastic, doesn't it?"
- "... Have you ever held one in your hand? You would definitely change your mind, because it is that feel of quality in your hand..."

I left speechless and actually ordered one 5 or 5S from the enterprise hotline (by the way).

Buy an accessary for extended battery, don't try to force all of the others to carry extra weight and ugliness for the convenience of the minority group you are in. At least you have a way to extend the battery at present, the others don't have a way to peel out the extra if Apple ever really make the phone thicker!

Minority group hmm. Battery life seems to be the number 1 complaint about iPhones. Maybe a minority on here were everyone sees anything Apple does as perfect but not always in the real world.

Don't try and force me to carry around the inconvenience of an external battery that I shouldn't need for the slight convenience of the phone being thinner.

I don't see you having a problem with them making it thicker for touch force though......... I was suggesting that if they were making it thicker then adding a bigger battery would be better than touch force.

The difference between 7000 series aluminum and 6000 series aluminum (which is what is probably in the iPhone 6) is not that much. "Competition bicycles" also use 6000 series aluminum to this day.

"it's 60 percent stronger than most aluminum" BUT, not necessarily 60% stronger than the aluminum in the current iPhone 6/plus.

What I don't get is if it is 60% stronger then their usual aluminum then why do they need to make it any thicker unless it is for a thicker battery? In theory they could make it thinner and achieve the same strength in that. I don't know of anyone who have actually experienced the bend gate phenomenon in real use. And I believe shortly after that came to light they slightly redesigned that region by thickening the material on the inside around the buttons to even increase the strength further. Wasn't there news of some titanium shim they even embedded in that region?

So I guess this means I will have to buy new cases for the 6s? Little disappointing.

So glad they are ditching the space grey. It kinds of bother me how the front of space grey is so black and gorgeous but the back and edges of phone doesn't really blend that well.
