A multi-core ARM would seem unlikely considering that the new ARM architecture, the "Cortex-A8", doesn't support more than one core (this will change with the Cortex-A9 in 2010). They could use a chip based on a multi-core ARM11 platform similar to Nvidia's "Tegra" series, but I don't see why they wouldn't just use a (single-core) Cortex-A8 which is a significant improvement over ARM11.

Along the same lines, It doesn't make a lot of sense for them to use a multi-core GPU considering that the higher-end (single-core) PowerVR SGX chips are already many times faster than the MBX in the iPhone.

PA Semi multi-core perhaps? I dunno.

Too bad 802.11 g tops out at 54 mbps IF you can get it perfect.

Well, here's hoping for 802.11n than, eh?
My point remains though, that Bluetooth is absolutely not going to happen for syncing because I think even 802.11b beats it.

I'm sure iPhone 3G owners will be considered just like regular under-contract AT&T customers and the price of the new phone will be $x if you are upgrade-eligible and $x+200 if you're not. Both with 2-year contracts. iPhone 3G owners would have to pay the $x+200.

Well than AT&T obviously doesn't understand the hordes of fanboys who WILL buy the newest iPhone without thinking about it for a second. They will certainly piss off a good amount of 3G owners when they either have to wait or pay an extra $200.
That being said, it is AT&T partnered with Apple, so I can fully see it happening, just because they know most of said fanboys will pay the extra $200 anyway...

iPhone 3.0

I wonder if this could really be coming out in June, maybe Steve will introduce it, and it can it can be his big comeback/ massive product announcement.

Oh the irony of a 400 pound steve introducing the thinnest iphone ever:p

I wonder if Jobs is running point on this mission even though he's not the CEO right now...

interesting

So by these logic Apple considers iPhone 1st gen. and iPhone 3G being a same product or a phone. They are pretty much brothers. So maybe next iPhone 2,1 will have something that will set it apart in terms of design.

Although I don't see Apple making a new iPhone this June. The iPhone 3G is still testing the waters.

I'm game for a 32GB iPhone. 16GB means I have to leave some music off my phone. I want it all with me! BWWAHHAHAHAH! And a longer battery with a faster processor. Then it will be perfect :)

I don hope a future version of iTunes gives us the ability to organize apps on the various pages. Mine are a mess after getting my phone replaced and the current system is too cumbersome.

Very interesting...not that this was unexpected. I really doubt it will be worth it to upgrade from the 3G though, as much as I'll want to...:D

Oh, Apple knows what you want and need so you will have to. =) They really good at it. I though same thing about 3G, but bought it after a week of resistance. =)

Unless the core apps and features are on par with Palm then yes it's worth to upgrade. If not Palm will rule. Apple can't afford to neglect the software areas.

I went to an ATT store today and found out that last year, when Apple announced the coming of the iPhone 3G, anyone that would buy the 1st gen iPhone would be eligible to trade in your 1st gen for the 2nd gen iPhone. She was clear to state that it was only after Apple made the announcement. She also says that ATT new of this before they announced it to the public and that she, as an ATT employee that knew of the iPhone 3G up coming day view while it was still a mystery to most, says that she hasn't heard of any upcoming new iPhones. How can this be with all the confirmative rumors about the production of the 32G iPhone Chips and the talk about quad-core processors. I understand that they can release a good software update but they are way overdue for a new iPhone. Call it whatever you want but we need a new one. I want one but I don't want to buy one to find out a new one came out 3 months later. I want a 32G with the quad-core feature, which I know will come out since I know of someone that works for the company that produced the quad-core processors for Apple's iPhone. I'm not giving any names but I hear that it has major improvements over the current iPhone 3G processors even if they were to release it as a dual-core instead of a quad-core, the quality is much higher. In conclusion, we all want a new iphone. The pieces are in place but apples has not made any indications that it should be happening before WWDC 2009 which is in June. We can confirm with others all we want but it's up to Apple to release, why haven't they done so yet???? I've been holding to purchase a new iPhone since October of last year!!!!
fyi, paragraphs might help...

who knows when this new iphone will ship...but i'm on it if/when it does. cool...

i wonder when all the threads about a front facing camera are going to start? remember how bad it was last year?

Highly unlikely. More likely would be via bluetooth.

that ones still iffy... like i said earlier the length of time that it would take would out way the convience... unless they came up with a method that constantly monitered changes made on itunes and updated them in real time on the iphone when you were in you house... all done in the background

I hope so! That would be one helluva comeback!

ROFL! Good stuff right there ^^^.

I'm already in line.

Save me a spot right after you and then I'm gonna sell it the day before launch for about 5 grand! :D

OMG, I remember all of those! And to think I was one of those shmuck's believing it was gonna happen to! I'll give in this time as well, hopefully for not as big a let down as last time. ;)

I'm no going to upgrade this year, i'll be keeping my 3g till the 2010 model comes out ;)

I don't care if the only update is an extra internal piece of plastic (that we cannot even see)... if they call it new, I AM GETTING ONE! I am addicted to everything Apple does. If they add a tiny piece of internal plastic, and call if iPhone 3Gp, I am buying one.

However, I am hopeful for video, copy and paste, an aluminum model to match my MB, and of course full 720p HD video (jk).

I doubt we see anything until June with being ready for a July release so we are all ok to buy one with our AT&T contracts... (well us ADDICTS that bought on the release date).

Yeah, our upgrades statuses are all over the place.

We had two out-of-contract lines on our family plan, and we upgraded both to 3Gs on day 2. One says eligible again 12/13/09, the other 3/13/2010. Why one is 18 and the other 21 months, I have no idea.

son stop spamming useless comment to lvl up your membership. It's quite annoying. Also your signature is such an eyesore.

Children.... Sigh

No kidding. At least learn to use multi-quote.

For the love of god man, learn to use Multi-Quote.

there we go guys i figured it out... does that make you happy??? im sorry i just started this and haven't quite gotten used to everything but i just thought it would be fun to chime in and give my 2 cents about things... i mean isn't that what these things are for? but i guess i was wrong and its a place where if you do something wrong you get yelled at by a bunch of random people for a simple mistake... my mad... is there anything else i can do for you now?

and what do you even mean leveling up?

A multi-core ARM would seem unlikely considering that the new ARM architecture, the "Cortex-A8", doesn't support more than one core (this will change with the Cortex-A9 in 2010). [...]

Explain please. It would seem the the ARM Cortex A9 multi-core has been available for license from ARM for over a year:
http://www.newlc.com/en/arm-unveils-cortex-a9-processors-scalable-performance-and-low-power-designs

Granted that the usual ARM chip manufacturers may not plan to have A9 chips until 2010, remember that everyone is assuming Apple bought PA Semi to have their own in-house ARM chip design shop. This year and the anticipated third generation of iphone have seemed for some time like a reasonable place to see an Apple / PA Semi designed ARM chip introduced. Given that Apple has a long time inside relationship with ARM (being one of the founding partners of the current ARM and a major investor) and that they were obviously working with PA Semi well before the purchase, it does not seem unreasonable that Apple could have access to an A9 multi-core finished product well ahead of the rest of the industry.

If Apple does have an advantage getting an A9 chip to market first and if the ARM hype about A9 is even half true and if Apple does a good job taking advantage of all that power with iphone OSX 3.x, then all those 'iphone killers' are probably going to get pretty well killed.
