The largest monitor resolution a consumer can buy is 2560x1600.
that's about almost 4.1MP.
99.99% of the time on the internet, you'd look at images that are 15% this size. 800x600, 1024x768, even 1280x1024 is rare. More pixels isn't necessarily a bad thing but only if you want to pixel peep, crop in, or shoot home made map images.
I'll take a 3.2MP high quality lens with flash than an 8MP low quality camera any day.
