New, faster chip, bigger display with higher resolution, new body with less bezel, even thinner than before, yet more solid with back glass switched for metal, 4G LTE, and a new OS to go with it.

This could be the biggest iPhone update ever, and people here will still complain like crazy.

I for one can't wait.

Indeed they probably will. I'm really not that excited by this update. As soon as it was confirmed that it would simply have a longer screen I switched off. All the above is welcome - most of the competitor smartphones have had this for a while now. It's just another annual upgrade. Bit boring really. Nothing all that exciting or revolutionary in there. Sorry to be so downbeat but I just can't get excited by the iPhone 5. I'm more interested to see what they do with the iPods and the iPad Mini.

Here's what it looks like when you remove the luminance.
It is quite easy to see the A6 was "shopped" in. I included a close-up of the area in question

Sorry for the lack of knowledge, but can you explain how those images show that the A6 is photoshopped? I'm not too familiar with techniques used to verify validity of images.

The majority of consumers buying the iPhone won't give a damn what chip is in the iPhone as long as it works well for them. Apple isn't setting out to impress the tech pundits who are always looking to be impressed over some single piece of hardware. The most I'd be looking for in a new processor is the ability to go into a low-power mode to save the battery. They need to focus more on battery life than always boasting how high the clock speed goes. If the iPhone UI runs as smooth as butter, consumers should be more than happy with whatever chip is in the iPhone.

I said this a week or two ago. When the "new ipad" was being released there were some logs of a A6 processor. Many of us thought it was going to appear on the ipad but later we ended up with the A5X. Everyone said perhaps the A6 chip makes it on the next iphone?

Here we are debating all this jazz about A5X but why did everyone stop talking about the A6?

I think the next iphone will get the A6 and a release ipad will include a A6X of some sorts next year.

AnandTech ran tests on the A5X when the latest iPad was released. They found that the A5X alone used more power than the entire iPhone 4S (Screen, radios, A5, etc.). So even if you don't believe the quad core GPU would be a waste on a 960x640 screen, it would destroy the battery.
Mr "gates", you obviously are not I/T engineer, if so you'll know that CPU POWER USAGE is PROPORTIONAL to WORKLOAD.

So a 1148x640 is 734K pixels (new iPad is 3.2M pixels) so it spend 1/4 of the power, coz Once the screen is rendered the GPU enters Idle, so smaller screen means more time Idle -> same power saving, on same CPU.

Looks like someone took a picture of a picture on a computer screen, from the looks of the banding in the picture. Or there's something wrong with their camera.

The previous pics were the same. It's clearly a pic of some photos on a monitor.

You'd think with all the money they are raking in from page views would get them a better camera

The pics weren't taken by the website. They just found them and posted them. These most likely leaked from the factory. Someone obviously captured a quick pic off a monitor.

same body

Someone needs glasses.

Unreal...

I gues doubling down on secrecy means not even going to try and hide it anymore...

Well if this is true, I am definitely starting to regret my last weeks' 4S purchase. I am happy with that phone and all, but this one rocks. Still can't get used to its prolonged face panel though...

It should have greater SOC integration as well as a newer process all of which should contribute to reduced power consumption and a reduction of the overall footprint on the circuit board and increased processing capability.

It makes sense to me to introduce the A6 on the new iPhone because the product cycle is a year (sometimes a bit longer) and an iPhone without a processor upgrade would be very dated before a year passes and might not have the ability to handle software one might expect to be developed during its life cycle.

One other thing. A new, more integrated SOC on a newer process should bring reduced costs to the equation which would benefit Apple from a competitive perspective. It might even enable Apple to offer greater capabilities at the same or even lower price points.

Is the photo legit or is the information accurate even if the photo is not legit? I guess we should see soon.

Um... it doesn't matter what the new phone has, nothing would justify buying any iphone except the new one, this close to the release. Well except maybe an older, cheaper one.

The a6 is just an apple term. What matters more if it is A15 based or is it stil A9 based. If it is quad core it will akmost def be A9 based. A dual core a15 will be more power efficient and faster. This would be a much better option

Since it's just an Apple term, they wouldn't call just a die-shrinked A5 with a new graphics chip an "A6," would they?

Dual cores A15 or Quad cores A9 with PowerVR 544mp2 (as efficient as new iPad's 543MP4 but thinner)

Not sure what you mean by "thinner", but the 544 is just two 543 cores in one with some added API capabilities (DirectX) which doesn't matter to Apple. That's why they went 543MP4 instead of 544MP2 for the A5X.

if true,

A6 = Shut up and take my money!

I thought for sure we would see a A6 on a iPad before a iPhone.

Picture looks severely shopped to me.

Regardless, I'm very excited for the new iPhone. I do hope for a powerful chip, hopefully one that will last for at least two iterations of iOS.

We'll find out soon.

It's too bad that one of the most important tech pictures of the year was taken with a used tampon...
