Can people not see that the whole line will be touch screen, and look similar?

iPod Classic will become iPod Touch, with current Hdd
iPod Touch will merge with iPod Nano, and there will be a current iPod Touch Size, and a smaller more Nano size.

Im thinking iPod Video will come back, as the touch screen Hdd based Classic.
iPod touch will stay the same, maybe be just the iPod now?
iPod Nano will be a smaller iPod Touch.

Definitely seems plausible. I like your thinking with then new lineup. Then as soon as flash prices drop every further apple will drop the traditional hdd in favor of it.

Heh, wow criticism for doing a mockup =)

Anyway, I flipped it over so that it' not a lefty model. But it doesn't say, atleast in the OP, that it would be thinner so i didn't make it. And I doubt they'd keep the original GUI of the current nano.

oh darn. I liked the lefty. I am a lefty.. Touch Nano on where I can drag my controls? actually I have a classic from like 4 years ago (15 gb model). Works good enough as a music player. if it ever breaks - then maybe I will upgrade. but I paid $300 for it back then and also got the fm transmitter doc for it as well, for when I am in the car.

I say -- lose the click wheel, go back to the aluminum backs and make it touch screen

On second thought -- keep the click wheel for easy shuffling of songs.

or maybe make a click wheel "app" to simulate the click wheel

So okay..

1) Ipod classic - for the huge music playlists
2) ipod touch - genius
3) ipod shuffle - great for running and working out
4) ipod nano - hmm...not sure where it fits

Clickwheel: If you use the Nano for sports and training, you will want a physical clickwheel that you can adjust without having to look at it. Touch interfaces are cool, but they don't work for me when I'm going 40 mph downhill on a bicycle.
Nano shape: I loved the first two years of Nanos. The current Spongebob SquareGig edition never excited me. Also, the 3G Nano clickwheel was almost too small.
I wouldn't be too quick to dismiss the idea that the Nano will return to more of its original shape. Remember, Apple killed the iPod mini with the Nano. Guess what showed up a year later — the mini's skin on the 2G Nano. I think Apple is wise to reuse ideas and shapes that worked well.

Take that ugly green mock-up, cut off the click wheel and add an iPhone home button, and use the iPhone UI for media. Smaller, lighter, and a head turner. All those little wheelie folks will just have to grow up, or use the base model postage stamp size unit without screen.

I don't think Apple will ever go back to having plastic on the top and bottom. It made the 2nd gen nano look and feel cheap.

At first I wasn't crazy about the proportions of the current nano. Then, I went to the Apple Store and played with one. It feels great in your hand and the screen looks amazing. I'm glad they went to the all-metal case.

If they made the screen any larger, it would be competing with the iPod Classic. There's a reason why they call it the 'iPod Nano.' Those who are in the market for a larger screen should check out the iPod Touch or Classic.

I've used my iPhone downhill on a bicycle at 40mph (as well as the gym and running) and it's fine. Granted I usually use the button on my Shure Music Adapter but it advances my songs. Perhaps Apple can start to include this type of earphone not just for the iPhone, but all iPod's as well. While they are at it, no earphones, earBUDS please. The earphones Apple gives you hurt SO bad! :)

You are a braver human being than I.:)

I think you need a shuffle.;) I use mine for anything active and since I shouldn't be looking at a screen, the simple push button interface works great. Another plus is if I drop it, lose it, run it over, get water or sweat on it, it's not a bloody fortune to get another.

I'm not sure if it's braver or perhaps that I may be at a higher level of stupidity. :) Not usually too many people on the Queensboro bridge bike path and when I start to go downhill, I feel like I am racing cars...time to change my music! haha

Apple is never going to go as low to copy microsoft.
really? Really? Did you really just say that? Are you actually convinced that every single piece of technology made by apple is completly free of influience from Microsoft?

Oh great NOW you're going to say there is no Easter Bunny and the Elves in the tree making cookies are not real..... right? Oh GOD NO SAY IT'S NOT TRUE OH GOD HUMANS MAKES THE COOKIES?!?!? AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH:p

I was thinking the same exact thing. Expect no ugly brown red or pink. It will have the apple design and yes it may be red and pink, but it will be a better hue.

I agree. like the ipod touch/iphone has. You touch the screen and the contols are brought up..

Guess people really hate the 3G ipod nano. I dont have a problem with it. its not that fat....

I love my 3rd Gen Nano. IMO its the best nano design yet, from a looks standpoint anyways, the 1st and 2nd Gens were more comfortable in your hand. But I love the shape of the current nanos. That mock-up looks terrible. It makes the Zune look nice.. in comparison.

I love my Phattie. Sorry to see them get bigger. Video is pretty sweet on the current nano.

I love the Phattie too. It fits so perfectly clipped on my vase in my VW Beetle. It's so cute. And yes, the size of the screen is nice. This mock looks like the old Nano.

iPod Nano (Fatty w/Touch Screen)

This is a fake. Apple announced that they were going to reduce their margin in their product line to 'corner a market'. My bet is that they are moving the iPod nano to a touch platform with AppStore support. Smaller screen than the iPod Touch, probably less storage, but no click wheel.

This will leave them with a touch solution with App store support across the line (except for the shuffle, which is in a different space).

The iPod Nano 4G posted here, with App Store support, is where we'll be by Christmas.

Heh! Yes, I'm enjoying the double standard.

Article about Microsoft copying Apple: "Again! Those thieves! Why can't they be creative! It'll still suck! Blah blah blah."

Article about Apple copying Microsoft: "Oooh, this product will rock! Copying the Zune? ... meh. Apple would never stoop that low. But this will still be better!"
